Title: people that start to pack up early toward the end of class
Post by: 'taterblast on February 08, 2010, 03:33:25 PM
before the professor is done. messing with coat/putting stuff in backpacks/making unnecessary noise.  does/did this annoy the shazbot! out of anyone else?

kinda feel like a nerd that it annoys me so much, but i start feeling bad for the ol' prof. class isn't over, mother frackers, relax for another two minutes, jfc.

true story, there is a kid who "shhhh'ed" my entire class for packing up when the class was over because the teacher was still talking. he did it the other day in the middle of class when a group of people were talking. gonna be fun when i end up telling him to eff off in front of the prof.

I feel like that is crucial, it lets the teacher know they need to wind down the class. The last thing you want is the Prof to go 5 minutes over then forget to remind you about that paper due next class because no one decided to start packing up 2-3 minutes before class ended.

should add: once the class is officially over, i'm not quite as anal about that. but i'm saying if a class gets over at 10:20 am, and people start shifting around at 10:17, i get annoyed.

I'm not too cool to admit it, it bugs the crap out of me too.

It bugs the crap out of everyone that doesn't do it. A kid I worked with said when he would teach his classes he would take note of the ones doing it and use that to determine borderline grades.

did you ever stop to think that the people who are doing that are having the crap bugged out of them by the people that don't?

it's a signal for the prof.  Pretty much a service so he doesn't give away lecture material for free.  you only paid for 50 minutes.   :nono:

Students -- the only group of consumers in the US who consistently demand less for their money.

It's necessary to shut the professor the hell up.

why are you in a hurry to get to the next class you're going to hate?

This. Five minutes before the end of class, and you're probably a frat boy/stoner douche bag. But the last 90 seconds is a paper-shuffling/backpack-zipping free-for-all.

Why do you assume I was an early pack-upper?

Pretty much. And not all buildings have bells that go off. This is a service to society.

the early packer uppers usually woke me up from whatever dream I was having at the time which I appreciated because I would then have enough time before getting out of my desk to clean up my drool which at this point was all over the desk I was sitting in.

One class a day was pretty much my limit.

I hate this, makes me want to blow up the lecture hall so people will stop doing it.

I did this at a meeting yesterday afternoon.  Started doing the thing where you tap your stack of papers on the table to get them all lined up.

At our office, the paper-shuffling and backpack zipping is replaced with the sounds of blackberries clicking and scrolling. If someone runs three minutes over, it sounds like a 1930s newsroom.

Yep, people also start having one on one conversations at more than a whisper.

no one should be allowed to end a conversation (meeting, class, whatev) until the other person ends it.  it's very rude.

Wrong. I got crap to do. What's rude is luring me to a meeting under false pretenses of 20 minutes and keeping me there for 30-40. I repeat: I got crap to do.

I can't remember which class it was, but this started happening the first day of class, about 2 minutes from the end.  In a couple of weeks, it was 5 minutes, and more people were doing it.  A couple of weeks later, it was closer to 7 minutes, and 3/4 of the class was doing it.  The professor finally yelled at everybody to stop packing their stuff up and sit and listen until the end of class.
