I haven't been here in a few years. Man, this place is a real shithole. You may ask yourself: "What the hell is he doing in Topeka?". I'll tell you what I'm not doing- driving past swanky neighborhoods and elite businesses. It's like the damn land that time forgot here. Hey Topeka- can you guys get a few more (out of business) mom and pop mexican restraunts around here?
-
You mean madre y padre stores?
-
Hey, bad person. I will take off my shirt and fight you. Meet me at the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at 37th (near Topeka blvd, the old Chief drive in theater). After I shove my foot up your ass and tickle your teeth with my toes, perhaps we can share a growler of Holy Grail Pale Ale at Blind Tiger Brewery, which is just a few blocks away.
-
I've actually wanted to try Blind Tiger. They have an IPA on tap? Do they remove the cockroach droppings from the beer, or do just do it yourself? (I just assume that every establishment has a serious roach problem in Topeka.)
-
Bashing Topeka has been en vogue on the phog/WtW for like 2 years now

Sounds like some random suburb of Wichita trash, for sure.

I lived about a block from there. I'd be there to watch the asskicking when it took place if I still did. I'd be all

I find it funny when anyone from any non-Kansas City town (except Manhattan, of course) talks smack on Topeka.
Yeah, like Wichita is any better. Pittsburg? GTFOOMF. Atchison? Iona? Hutch? LOL.
Also, if you're from any town with less than 10K people in it, you may as well just not even comment on such matters. Your town doesn't even exist on most maps and no one cares about you or where you're from. :users:
-
Scar Smart- You still trying to fool yourself into believing size doesn't matter?
-
All kidding aside- Lake Shawnee looks really nice, tons of neat little improvements here and there. And the SCABA fields are rough ridin' amazing!!

I think a beer garden is being added too.

Topeka is biggest fracking crap hole in Kansas. Best friend lives there and he brags it up like its paradise. Most ghetto town in the state.
Only good thing about that town is Steak n Shake

topeka is a weird deal. the people that don't live there know it sucks, but the people that live there seem completely happy with the town. there's some kind of genetic self preservation dna topeka code that is being embedded into the drinking water or something. thoughts? is this even possible? :dunno:

oh definitely, they put addictive topeka loving microbes in the water when they treat it for drinking consumption, that way even if kids leave topeka to go to school somewhere else they go through withdrawal and are just drawn back to topeka and once that treated water hits their lips, they're done for :frown: I know some higher-ups in the city government who will do ANYTHING to keep this on the down low. Why do you think brownback is quitting the senate to run for governor, he's addicted to the microbes
-
I drink lots of OJ. Its the only explanation why I didn't get infected by the microbes.
-
If Topeka scientists could create such microbes...man, they are geniuses.

It was better when it was Google.

An abandoned church was featured on Paranormal State (anyone watch it?) a while ago. Maybe that's the reason the zipcode starts with 666!!!!! :ohno:

That the church that's supposed to be one of the gates to hell, or something like that? Sounds pretty creepy.

Don't be rough ridin' stupid. Topeka is no comparison to Wichita and you know it, I'm not even from here but I'll call you out on this stupid crap. Comparing Topeka favorably to Wichita is like comparing Coffeyville favorably to Topeka.
For the record also comparing Manhattan favorably to Wichita is incredibly stupid. You hicks should stop being afraid of places with resources and stuff.

The problem with this argument is that you'd have to live in Wichita.

I love me some Wichita. Riverfest, Old Town, Thunder in the IBA. MW Beerfest.

Wichita is a hole. Just because it has a few hundy K, that doesn't make it a decent city.
Look, if you live in Kansas, there's three decent cities to live in: Manhattan, Lawrence, or some township of Kansas City. After that, you may as well throw a dart on a map because it's all pretty much the same. The bigger cities are crap, and anything less than 10K people in it is just not even worth talking about.
I travel all of the time for work, so I've been to a lot of great cities. Seattle, San Diego, Raleigh, Charlotte, Tampa, Phoenix, and a bunch of smaller towns no one has heard of but are great, great places to work and live. Topeka, Wichita, Hutch, etc. all fall way below that standard. Hell, even Oklahoma City is better than Wichita. Northwest Arkansas (where the Wal-Mart money is), is better than that as well.
And as for being afraid of places with "resources", I moved to Kansas City because I wanted to live where the "stuff" was. So, I'm far from being afraid of places with resources and "stuff".

Anywhere in Colorado within view of mountains > anywhere in KS.

Anywhere in Colorado within view of mountains > anywhere in KS.
Don't care about seeing mountains. gmafb.
-
Wichita isn't a bad city for its size at all.
Neither is Topeka, really. I mean, where are the nice cities with 100k people and no major university or major city to suck the teat of?
Your cities comparable to Topeka are places like Pueblo, CO, Odessa, TX, and Erie, PA. Seriously, people.
-
Lincoln is an absolute shithole and it has a University. I always mentally put Lincoln and Topeka in the same category (state capitols being the category)
-
Anywhere in Colorado within view of mountains > anywhere in KS.
Don't care about seeing mountains. gmafb.
What that means is eastern Colorado blows. Even without mountains, we have a much nicer climate (currently 72 degrees, have fun with your humidity), more things to do, and we smell much better.

maybe you should start a thread about cities the size of @100,000 people that aren't tied to a major university and don't have a major city to suck the teat of and how they all suck balls and dicks but also compare fairly well to topeka? i'd post in it.

So driving through Topeka in 30 mins...where to eat to watch the game? Criteria: close to the interstate, either. And not Hooters. Go!
-
BWW, duh

Goddamnit
-
BWW, duh
maybe you'll get the waitress with 1 hand :excited:
-
lots of people like tailgators too, but it's like 5min from the interstate instead of 1min.
-
Looks like we are pushing through to Abilene.
-
All of this Kansas-town comparing reminds me of what I was told when I moved here: "you live in the only nice town in Kansas."

I've lived in Wichita all my life except my five years in Manhattan.
I'm sick of the place. The city seems to have no motivation to improve itself and actually become a real legitimate big city.
The bus service sucks, the river is polluted, and all the good local eateries are out of the way with shitty parking.
It lacks that progressive indie rock vibe that I want out of a town. I feel it in KC, Denver, and even Ok city, but not here.

He lives in Lawrence. She was living with him, and a former employee. He was apparently a father-figure, and many of his former employees say he helped them get straight.
They aren't sure if she was involved or not.

Sounds like you might be in East Topeka, aka Lawrence.

I've been to Topeka to visit friends and family, and I've been to Topeka to get laid. I can't think of another reason anyone would voluntarily visit Topeka.

I live in Topeka. Do I think it's great, no. I like it well enough though. But if I lived in a major metro area and I could be one hour between two of my favorite places I would be happy. That is why I like living here. I can be at any KSU event on campus in less than an hour from my house. I can be at any event in KC within just a bit over an hour. A trip to the airport is just at an hour. And my day-to-day needs are met here. That makes living here very good for me. I don't miss out on things because I live here. I just shorten my drive to either location. Just my two cents.

Topeka sounds a lot like North Carolina.
