Turbo tax?
I want to try this, how long does it take and can a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) monkey do it?
-
I went to H&R block online. Filed federal for free, they charge 29.99 to file state. Very easy.
-
I mail mine in. Probably do them Thursday night.
-
Will have tax return direct deposited on friday :users:
-
I'd have mine done but the bank is fracking me. Haven't sent the form on interest earned yet. Pretty sure I'll have to call the police on them.
-
State deposited last week. Federal this Friday.
:users:
-
Doing them this week.
OK_Cat feels pretty elite. Bought a house this year, so the gov't is gonna give me some BANK. :bigtoke:

Very easy. I switched to Turbo Tax this year after having used TaxCut (H&R Block's product) for the last 5 years. Turbo Tax is smoother...they both do just fine in the actual "calculation" and what not. I had issues with TaxCut only letting me efile one of my states, but Turbo Tax let me efile both.
I'd do Turbo Tax over Tax Cut.

Once you buy one of those, do you shell out for updates every year?

Same. I did an online calculator and it said my wife and I would bank 14,000. Love it.

Anyone know a good CPA in Kansas City? For some reason TaxCut keeps telling me I will get more if I file Married-filing separately. Don't married people get a credit or some crap? Same thing happened last year and I just ate it but I want to buy a yacht, and www.ksufans.com this year.

Ya, you have to re-purchase it every year. You can download the "upgrade" or whatever, but I just pick one up at Best Buy every year. It really is the easiest and most cost effective way to go.

Yep. You may also be able to import your W-2 if your employer's payroll provider participates (mine did). Less typing that way.
It's very, very simple to use.
-
HR Block on line is free (under some income level)
the State of KS has a free file as well, fairly easy to use.
-
My wife has a home office, which makes taxes an absolute PIA. Much fighting always occurs come tax time.
-
Mrs. cyclist and I haven't started yet, but we'll get going this weekend. Like Dirty Sanchez, we are waiting for tax info.
Also, we get Turbo Tax each year and get Kansas and Missouri state tax software (also Turbo Tax). We do ours and four other family members taxes.
February and March is :curse: time for us...

Had this problem as well. Def go with Turbo Tax.

I've done about 30 returns, maybe 150 to go...close to half corporate returns. F'n hate tax season.
BTW, whoever had the MFJ vs. MFS issue: usually you're right, since filing seperately causes you to lose most credits, but if you don't have kids an such, sometimes MFS comes out better. It's rare though the way they have it set up now.

1099 employee here, gonna have to pay all the taxes I owe :ohno:

Only wait until April if you owe taxes.

You don't do estimated taxes quarterly? If you owe over a certain amount come filing time, you will also have to pay a penalty %.
-
Bank of America customers get a 35% discount of Turbo Tax online fwiw.
-
Anybody else use TaxAct?
:dunno:
-
I think I owe taxes, am I doing something wrong, or am I just that rich? :dunno:
-
-
I think I owe taxes, am I doing something wrong, or am I just that rich? :dunno:
Probably not doing anything wrong other than not being rich enough to get tax breaks, shelters, etc.
-
I'm amazed at how many people are willing to pay for professionals or software to do their taxes for them. Unless you're rich with tons of assets and other rich people things, it doesn't seem very cost-effective.

No, pretty sure my biggest prob is taking standard deduction.

risk - reward. it's not a good thing to mess up on your taxes, unless you are equipped to handle doing them yourself then it's something best left to a professional. and, suck it.
-
filed mine a couple weeks ago, but forgot I had a 1098 form coming to me. just got that today and should have received an additional 1,700. now i have to file an amended return and wait 2-3 months. :curse:
-
Guess I should've had fewer scholarships? :dunno:

My mother did the family taxes all my life and she's a woman for Christ's sake.

I am a CPA in KC. Should probably change my name to Bigshotcpacat or something. :dunno:
Hate doing taxes though.

she may have done them but that doesn't mean that she did them correctly

Unless you have a multitude of investments and interest earning accounts or are divorced/self employed I don't see what you could screw up unless you just lied about stuff.

$6,200 large coming my way, boys.

i think we're talking about the hard taxes to file, not those filing 1040ez's.

We hired a CPA last year and he got us significantly more than Turbo Tax said we'd get. Also, I've heard Tax Act gets you more money. Not sure if this is true or safe though.
