I went to H&R block online.  Filed federal for free, they charge 29.99 to file state.  Very easy.

I'd have mine done but the bank is fracking me.  Haven't sent the form on interest earned yet.  Pretty sure I'll have to call the police on them.

Very easy.  I switched to Turbo Tax this year after having used TaxCut (H&R Block's product) for the last 5 years.  Turbo Tax is smoother...they both do just fine in the actual "calculation" and what not.  I had issues with TaxCut only letting me efile one of my states, but Turbo Tax let me efile both.

I'd do Turbo Tax over Tax Cut.

Once you buy one of those, do you shell out for updates every year?

Anyone know a good CPA in Kansas City?  For some reason TaxCut keeps telling me I will get more if I file Married-filing separately.  Don't married people get a credit or some crap?  Same thing happened last year and I just ate it but I want to buy a yacht, and www.ksufans.com this year.

Ya, you have to re-purchase it every year.  You can download the "upgrade" or whatever, but I just pick one up at Best Buy every year.  It really is the easiest and most cost effective way to go.

Yep.  You may also be able to import your W-2 if your employer's payroll provider participates (mine did).  Less typing that way.

It's very, very simple to use.

HR Block on line is free (under some income level)
the State of KS has a free file as well, fairly easy to use.

Mrs. cyclist and I haven't started yet, but we'll get going this weekend.  Like Dirty Sanchez, we are waiting for tax info.

Also, we get Turbo Tax each year and get Kansas and Missouri state tax software (also Turbo Tax).  We do ours and four other family members taxes.

February and March is  :curse: time for us...

I've done about 30 returns, maybe 150 to go...close to half corporate returns.  F'n hate tax season.

BTW, whoever had the MFJ vs. MFS issue: usually you're right, since filing seperately causes you to lose most credits, but if you don't have kids an such, sometimes MFS comes out better.  It's rare though the way they have it set up now.

You don't do estimated taxes quarterly?  If you owe over a certain amount come filing time, you will also have to pay a penalty %.

I'm amazed at how many people are willing to pay for professionals or software to do their taxes for them.  Unless you're rich with tons of assets and other rich people things, it doesn't seem very cost-effective.

risk - reward.  it's not a good thing to mess up on your taxes, unless you are equipped to handle doing them yourself then it's something best left to a professional.  and, suck it.

We hired a CPA last year and he got us significantly more than Turbo Tax said we'd get. Also, I've heard Tax Act gets you more money. Not sure if this is true or safe though.
