Title: Lee School basketball court
Post by: Lefty on February 02, 2010, 11:30:27 AM
8 foot rims. Full court. Sucked when the ball rolled down the hill. 60% chance you'd get there and one of the rims was bent, because some over zealous and over aged 8th grader hung on the rim too long.

I loved me some Lee School pickup games in the summer.....

:nono:
I wasn't talking about the inside gym. I'm strictly talking about the outside playground court. The full court version with 8 ft rims.... where us youngsters pretended to be Scott Skiles and John Paxsonsss

8-foot outdoor rims at Marlatt School, too (although maybe not full court).  I was Shawn Kemp on that court.

Great thread.

Meade Grade School.  One 7 1/2 ish goal and one 10 footer on a full court.  You have the option of going half court dunk fest or giving the older kids with pubes a handicap by making them use the 10 foot'er.

EDIT:  80% of the time you have no nets so you have to go to the local duckwalls and buy one WITH YOUR OWN MONEY and then boost another kid up to get up there and put it on the 10 foot'er.

Woodrow Wilson we had/have three goals all different heights one about 6foot one around 8 and one 10ft. Also had chain nets made that awesome noise whenever you scored.  :bball:

Amanda Arnold easily had the best playground of the Manhattan elementary schools.

2 full basketball courts, 1 with 10 ft goals and the other with 8 ft goals
2 full soccer fields
1 baseball diamond
1/4 mile track that gym teacher occasionally made us run around (this is actually a negative)
2 four square courts and 2 six square courts
1 kickball diamond
4 tether-ball courts with some weird basketball resembling thing in the middle
Giant twirly slide attached to elite playground equipment where kids play elite AA specific game called barracuda
15 or so swings with the chair swing as well
6 teeter-totters that sent a kid to the hospital at least once a year
Set of monkey bars great for playing chicken on
Weird climbing thing that 2nd grade waks had his first kiss on
Elite around-the-world equipment (non-Amanda Pandas will not understand)
And finally, one really lame fire engine thing that replaced the other elite twirly slide that got taken down because kids would jump off of it

I think it's safe to say that without a doubt, Amanda Arnold is the most elite elementary school in the MHK area.

Amanda Arnold elitist right here. I was there the day we voted on the school mascot. Panda's forever!

sidenotes: Lee school was where the "brothers" came to play. TJ Marshall was even spotted shooting J's there once. This is where you went to grow chest hair and earn your street cred.

* I didn't even know Bluemont existed because it was so far away from my elitist backyard.
* Eugene Field was where the weirdos and smart people went. Great layout for playground purposes, but it's not like any athletes went there.
* Marlatt was legit, but so 80's.
* Northview people were from another county. Never even met these peeps until 7th grade.

* Eugene Field was where the weirdos and smart people went. Great layout for playground purposes, but it's not like any athletes went there. always thought they were kind of elite, sort of the "small private" school of the bunch. too small to make a difference as an 'mentary school though.
* Marlatt was legit, but so 80's.  qft. had "hot" girls too.
* Northview people were from another county. Never even met these peeps until 7th grade.  tried to avoid northviewers at all cost. demon people.

ROFLMAO. You're joking, right? Frank Bergman Elementary is like the guy that always finishes in 2nd place. It's in Candlewood so it's the people that almost made it into the elite of Manhattan. The only thing it has going for it as far as elite-ness goes is the Hudson trail and having a separate cafeteria from the gymnasium. Also, those sinks outside of the bathrooms? GTFOOMF with that crap. The playground is a joke and it's surrounded by suburbia. Amanda Arnold is surrounded by a very elite chain-link fence with a beautiful forest around it. No need to worry about running out in front of cars when you have such an elite forest. One other great thing about the location... the elite kids in Manhattan have a brisk two minute walk from school to walk to the elite Cottonwood Racquet Club for after-school tennis lessons. Bergman also has to live with the fact that they're responsible for the budget crisis the school district has been in since it was built.

So GTFOOMF with that Bergman is more elite than Amanda Arnold bullshit.

PhiCat, did you ever have the chance to meet Old Bob, the dude who does the crossing guard duty for Lee on Anderson? He was a photographer around the world for 50 yrs. Life magazine, even.

Speaking of Lee School, I once puked directly into 7-8 a.m. traffic on Anderson. While little kids were across the street peering through the haverhill fence wondering wtf was going on. This immediately followed the conversation with Old Bob.

Eugene Fields, 10 ft rims teaches you how to be a man.

Eugene Field? Is that even a school anymore?

(proud Lee school alum here)

PhiCat, did you ever have the chance to meet Old Bob, the dude who does the crossing guard duty for Lee on Anderson? He was a photographer around the world for 50 yrs. Life magazine, even.

Speaking of Lee School, I once puked directly into 7-8 a.m. traffic on Anderson. While little kids were across the street peering through the haverhill fence wondering wtf was going on. This immediately followed the conversation with Old Bob.

Does or did? They first started having a crossing guard on Anderson at some point in my seven years there (ending spring 99).  I remember a few but never really chatted it up with any of them.  If he's currently the crossing guard then I for sure don't know who he is.

Love the puke story.  I'm sure all of those kids still know of you as the throw up kid.

Seven Dolors alum here. The basketball courts were shitty, but the playground had a cool tri-level wooden contraption with a slide and a netted rope to climb on. It's since been taken down, probably for safety reasons.

Lee school was the crap. There was no better playground to thrown down and settle a beef than at that school. I dont know if I have fonder memories than the first time I kissed a girl on that hazardous "Big Toy" that everyone always got splinters on or when I fracked some kid up in 4th grade during a game of kickball on the Blacktop when he talked trash on Mrs. Irelands class. Nuff said. :lynchmob:

I had Mrs. Ireland for two years. Not because I failed but because she moved up a grade with our class.  I would gladly beat the crap out of someone who talked trash on her.  Also, I loved the big toy and would beat the crap out of anyone who said any lame ass piece of playground equipment at their school was better than that was.

sidenotes: Lee school was where the "brothers" came to play. TJ Marshall was even spotted shooting J's there once. This is where you went to grow chest hair and earn your street cred.

Do you mean JT?

I took him in a game of one on one.  First one to ten.  Mano a mano.

Of course, there was a lot of drinking involved and no fouls called.   :drink:
