Title: Farmageddon trophy?
Post by: Havs on July 27, 2010, 01:36:02 AM
Question is on Cyclone Fanatic, might as well get your side of it.

Quote
Farmageddon: Trophy Game?

This was touched on in other thread, but I wanted to see what everyone thinks with a poll.

Based off CPR's comments yesterday about how much he likes neutral games at NFL stadiums and the proposed new scheduling system of 4 home/4 away/1 neutral, it looks like Farmageddon may become permanent at Arrowhead. So what does everyone think of adding a traveling trophy to Farmageddon? And if yes, what should the trophy be?

Personally, I love the idea of a trophy. New traveling trophies are added quite often (Clemson/BC in 2008, Cincy/Pitt in 2005, and Iowa/Wisky in 2004) and traditions have to start somewhere. List of College Rivalry and Trophies

So, how about a John Deere steel plow? Either an actually plow or a bronze replica mounted on a base. John Deere revolutionized agriculture in 1837 with the Steel Plow. Plows before then were made of cast-iron and often broke. The steel was more durable and changed agriculture by allowing thousands of acres of prairie to be turned into farmland. The steel plow also launched John Deere into a agriculture powerhouse that developed the first tractor. The plow was used extensively in Iowa and Kansas and was encouraged so much during the Homestead Act that the government told people that "Rain Follows the Plow." Meaning that rain would come water the crops if the ground was plowed. The plow had a huge impact on the development of Iowa and Kansas. Plus, John Deere could sponsor the game/trophy for money.

So what do you guys and gals think? Yes, No, Maybe?

Shaun Johnson Butter Carving

winner.
yes i like that idea too.  i would fully support it if the winning team all met around the trophy at midfield after the game and licked the butter statue until it was all gone.  each year they'd have to carve another one of Shaun but that's ok because butter gets old anyways.

This was decided in early October.  We decided that since we won that there should definitely be a trophy.  I think it's kept in a vault inside the labyrinth under Vanier.

Thanks to the help of Prome05, I just got inspired. How about a real, life-size tractor? One side will be painted Cardinal and the other side purple.
(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Farchive.liveauctioneers.com%2Farchive4%2Fmcgrewequipment%2F16457%2F3108_1_lg.jpg&hash=97904f3bd727ded25602262efce7ee7dc40ea966)

At the end of the game, the winning coach, or possibly mascot, drives the tractor off into the sunset.

I think the tractor should be gold plated.  And it should be hauling a grain bin sized walking taco.  To the winner go the spoils, my friend.

While I like the full sized tractor idea, I am concerned that it has to be a warmed up tractor to really capture the spirit.  What if the opposing team refuses to warm it up for the victor when it is time to give the trophy over to the new winner?

Awesome idea - how cool would it of been if ELamur had ran straight over it and fired it up after blocking that xp?

We should get John Deere or Cargill to sponsor the trophy.
Both teams offenses inter the Case IH Red Zone when the cross the opponents 20 yard line, so it should be one of these bad boys

What is the point of traveling trophy if it never travels?

(Insert a harsh, insensitive comment here where I mention the age of the current K-State head coach and his inability to coach forever)

(Insert retaliatory comment about Ames, floods, and your really proud yet below mediocre head coach.)

I'm so glad we're above those things.

So, hows the Mrs.?

You could certainly say that about the Governor's Cup.  Is that a reason to discontinue it?

That doesn't really hit the same way it would if we haven't lost back to back games and 3 out of 4.

Why isn't Farmageddon a sponsored game yet?

“Farmageddon brought to you by John Deer“
"Welcome to the Dekalb Farmageddon halftime show"

You would think we could easily close the gap in revenue with the B10 (at least for us an and the clones) with all the farm money out there
