Title: Looking ahead to Kentucky
Post by: OK_Cat on March 13, 2023, 10:10:49 AM
I'm a little nervous about the other Wildcats, but maybe not a lot.  Just from my low-bbiq, it looks like they have one main dude and a bunch of guys that may or may not be dudes.  I feel like our dude can neutralize their dude, and then our other dude can have himself a game.

My other hot take is that they are our only challenge until the elite 8

My Hawk co-worker told me that Calipari had unleashed the power of their main dude who had been hobbled by playing under the stifling constraints of the last program he was at. Seems pretty serious if a Hawk is giving Calipari credit for doing something good.

I almost named my bracket Wildcat Knife Fight.

I didn't because I saw that Marquette was next and immediately stopped caring about those Always Save Cats and started looking at the match up of Tang v Smart and couldn't think about anything else.  :excited:

I don't think Kentucky has a chance against the sleeping monster Providence Cthulus. I can only prey Tang knows a few secret incantations to subdue the unspeakable horror.

On a serious note I think we’re long overdue in presenting our case for Kentucky to vacate their 1951 season due to the ongoing point shaving scandals at the time and rightfully take our place as 1951 NCAA Champions.   Someone get Yormark on the case…

We should just start claiming the 51 title with no big reveal or anything. Slip it in the media guide and casually hang a banner in the OOD this off-season and pretend it's always been there.

Bring on the Eastern wildcats. We are western wildcats and our western wildcats live off the excess wildcats that grow up in the sheltered horse barns in KY.

When those KY barn cats try to cross the Mississippi river they get punked by the hardcore great plains Katz and probably die within 5 days.

Yeah. At this point it looks like they can pretty much do whatever they want. I’d say we need to get the lid off our rim but we aren’t exactly taking high percentage shots so the outcomes are fairly predictable

We’re gonna turn it over regardless. They’re a bad matchup on the boards. Gonna have to make everything tough on Oscar and bang the crap out of him on drebs.

3-point shooting will even out for us.

Imo let Sills run point from time to time. Let Quis work off  ball. Need Ish to have quick 3-pt trigger

I feel like I called my shot fairly well in the first post of this thread

When I saw that Gerry Pollard was working the game, I was happy as hell even though I can't stand his maga ass, he's worked like half of our games and he was awesome the first half. You're right though Cal working them clearly helped the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Kentucky fans are furious that Markquis patted Pollard on the butt. Their message board had someone asking for his personal info so they can do him like they did Higgins.

It seemed - at least in real time - like they could have easily called Kentucky for some of the stuff we were getting called for, but it wasn’t happening. I mean, they’re in the 1&1 with more than 10 minutes left in the half and with 1:30 left to play they had only been called for 3 (or 4?) fouls. I mean, c’mon
Title: Re: Looking ahead to Kentucky
Post by: catastrophe on March 19, 2023, 10:36:58 PM
I maybe disagreed with only maybe 2 fouls they called on us in the second half, and didn’t really think uncalled fouls on their end impacted our difficulties either. We make half of those wide open 3s and it’s never really that close of a game.

He referred to all the players as kids, didn't he?  I thought it was a subtle dig until then.  Whatever.  I think Cal just doesn't care at this point.  He's got nothing left to prove and money coming out of his ears.  Bad look for Dowling to engage in a petty Twitter monologue, IMO.  Especially after Tang kind of eschewed decorum by brushing aside UK's tradition and saying he has better dudes.

Also...lame to judge anyone (esp a HOF coach) by a pissy tourney-exit presser.  WGAF?  Maybe his heart was in the right place, but just enjoy the W, amigo...damn.

You serious? Those coaches don't give a damn about anyone outside of their locker room, and neither does Cal by the way. Decorum? They're standing up for their players, and the players, of course, love that.

I had no issue with Tang's comments or with Cal's either, really (though I understand why calling Nowell a "little kid" rubbed ppl the wrong way)  Dowling can certainly say whatever he wants, and I'm sure the players liked him standing up for them, however silly leaping on Twitter might (or might not) have been.  That's the end of my commentary.  Now let's get back to enjoying the W.

We had four years of Darren Sproles, three years of Deuce Vaughn and two years of Markquis Nowell, in all that time we've never had a coach refer to a player as little kid, there's a reason for that, it's wildly disrespectful. Oh well, let that greasy hoe say what he wants we've ended his season, again. 2 wins from the final four.

PMT was basically annoiting us as short king u

They weren't the easiest shots either.  Ish was in rhythm but it also looked like his deepest 3 of the year.  Just dudes throwing haymakers.

I just got gE'd didn't I?
Not just standing up for them, but generating some instant bulletin board material. That’s honestly how I viewed Dowling’s tweet.

There 100s of sports talk shows nationwide that have to be fed. I heard the same lame outrage takes on two different ones this afternoon.

sports talk shows nationwide

Coincidentally, host on local show called nowell “little kid” while praising him today.

Woody Hayes has been dead for 40 years, Woody Paige is 77 years old.

Yeah, Woody Hayes is looking like dog crap these days. Very gaunt, almost skeleton-like.

Listened to part of this 'pod last night. Would recommend skpping ahead to where _FAN covers the last four minutes of the Kentucky game and previews MSU. Some entertaining insights from _FAN, as always:

I met Woody Hayes. He presented me with a rudius (it's just a wooden sword). He touched me on the shoulder once, and I was free.

Give us those rudius deets. Length? Cut/uncut?
