Title: TCU game
Post by: mocat on January 14, 2023, 09:37:57 AM
Kind of feels like we lose today, idk.
If we win it might be the most impressive so far? We're not sneaking up on anybody anymore

I had a nightmare that we lost and I literally never dream about sports except as a participant so take it for what it is worth.

It’s a classic trap game. Not even Jerome Tang will be able to get this team to focus on the task at hand with the ku game looming large. It should be a good learning experience. A wake up call to remind us we are mortal and get the team refocused and hungry.

Watching this in person is unbearable. The turnovers have been ridiculous and we do not look overly interested in playing hoops today.
Title: Re: TCU game
Post by: nicname on January 14, 2023, 02:04:45 PM
We’ve been suspect on defensive glass, weak inside defensively and poor at double-teaming help defense and unreliable in transition defense all season. Tomlin is a pretty big liability on defense.

Those chickens came to roost in the first half. Frogs are a tough matchup as many of their strengths are our weaknesses.

Offensively, going to have to get tougher against teams that actually defend. Not sure if it is weakness or carelessness with the ball or a combo of both, but the better B12 teams will eat that up.

2nd half will be a good litmus test of this team’s toughness and resolve.

We’re extremely weak inside, and he’s a 6’10” 240 lb body. Obviously losing Dave N’Guessan exacerbates the problem significantly. Maybe he’s too raw, Tang and staff obviously know better than I do.

We really need Dave back.

Yeah, that and Finster isn't a big. We definitely need a traditional big, at times, but like you said the coaches know if he's ready or not and I don't know how many minutes would have been there for him anyway, particularly if N'Guessan didn't get hurt. Looks like he's getting ready to come back, he was in the walk through yesterday.

No, not really. You're eligible for a medical redshirt if you play in less than 10% of the teams games.

I only used Finster as an example, because I’d heard there was debate over they would use the redshirt on. I think we’re in general agreement. I’d take a flyer on Colbert, but what do I know?

Tomlin is a train wreck defensively. Bey Bey (what are we calling him?) is competent imo, but needs help. Ish plays tough in there but is slow and small. Why don’t we ever double? I’m confused by the defensive strategy other than ball pressure and other perimeter stuff.

So often put guys are looking away from the ball, not helping, flat-footed. The transition defense is really frustrating — other than Sills.

Defense comes down to coaching tho, so it’s gotta be tough to create a care free open style of offense, but be disciplined on the other end.

Redshirting Colbert instead of Finster might have been a regrettable decision.

You're gonna need to explain this one, bud.

It's ultimately up to the player as to whether or not they red shirt. They could have red shirted both or neither of them and it wouldn't have made a difference. Some of the minutes Ish has been playing are minutes that Finister got earlier in the season.

We do double team, did it a bit today. Double teaming is pretty tough when your defense weakness is in the front court, like we are.

The player can be open to not red shirting and not know he’s not going to get minutes the entire season from it as well, which is what is happening right now, and his mannerisms show it.

Tomlin is still learning how to play the game of bball.

He is and he’s fun to watch, but he makes a rattle rimming duck for the ages and then gives two up. His curve needs to go quickly!

Our offense greatly contributed to our bad defensive numbers today. When you turn the ball over 19 times against a team that likes to run, your going go get smoked on the other end. Unfortunately, Quis and Keyontae had a big hand in this.

Hopefully, everyone second guesses Tang next year when Colbert comes on strong and gives a real presence at center.

I'm thinking this is the best thing that could have happened before Tuesday's game.

I’m looking forward to the day when beating KU isn’t the season. Unfortunately we have a Baylor mole as a head coach.

Was at game.  We could have tried to give TCU the ball on purpose and not turn the ball over as much as we did.  Was ugly.  Too many try hard flashy passes.  Which I only say because they didn't work.

Also just a totally pud game environment.  Nice enough arena, there isn't a single bad seat.  But we looked an hour before tip and there were maybe 20 tickets left.  Then right at tip, the place is maybe half full.

TCU has the ugliest court in the land challenged only by Oregon.  My gawd, who makes those choices and why?

I like Oregon’s a lot. Imo, Oregon nailed it and TCU belly flopped the non traditional design.

Court looks cool in person. Definitely sucks on TV.

I think it's a TV thing. That picture above isn't as obnoxious as how it appears on TV. It looks like they painted it with reflected silver paint on TV.

Is that an old rodeo arena?

instead of yearning to have a game at Ahearn, maybe Weber (haha) arena would be a better spot.

I disagree. Maybe it was what both teams were wearing, but the contrast between the court and players was terrible. It all just blends together.

Camera view was awful on TV as it seemed like it was zoomed out more than it needed to be.  Yes, everything looked washed.  Cats should have worn purple or black that game.

Lavender blends with their whites moreso than being a court issue. Was confusing for my old eyes.

The TCU court pisses me off to  :cyclist:

I'd have liked it a lot better if KSU won though
