Title: NCAA Tournament sites
Post by: DreamWeaver69 on January 13, 2023, 10:36:20 AM
What a crap list of cities for the first two rounds:

Albany
Des Moines
Birmingham
Columbus
Orlando
Sacramento
Greensboro
Denver

I guess pray for Denver? Woof city!

I think the pod system is really dumb. How do you have teams from two different "Regionals" playing in the same location. Spread it out to 16 locations that are actually located in the "Regions".

That's how it was way back when, with more than a few even on campuses.  IIRC, that was even a talking point trotted out when trying to get buy in to build Bramlage.

:angrygeezer:

seems like that would be hard to do since you don't necessarily know which locations would make sense geographically until selection sunday. That said, I'm not sure San Jose is ever an appropriate choice for a host site under any circumstances whatsoever.

Yeah and it will be annoying as hell, because KU fans will drive up the ticket prices. I'd bet good $ we end up at the same location together, but on opposite brackets, like Omaha in '08

1. Denver
2. Orlando
3. Sacramento
4. Columbus
5. Greensboro
6. Birmingham
7. Albany
8. Des Moines

In defense of the pod system, gotta say it was really fun to watch sad KU fans trudge out of the Chesapeake Energy Center in OKC right before watching Jake and friends dispatch BYU in 2010.

a 100% true story about the HLL. My college roommate and the kid who lived across the street from me growing up - didn't know each other, never met each other - and they both happened to be at the HLL at the same time. How do i know this? b/c my childhood friend called me that day and said he got to talking to the guy at the bar next to him and asked him where he went to school and he said "k state" and he was like, "oh, do you know BAC?"

That had to have been like 12 years ago and i still get excited about telling that one. praise be the HLL!

Great restaurants in Birmingham.  Multiple Beard award winners and their offspring.  Multiple downtown breweries close to arena.

You’d have to be a total stick in the mud provincial douche not to have fun there.

When a person leave’s a cesspool of a location of life, they hope for a finer destination to take in. It’s ok to admit none of these places are by the ocean and suck ass. I’m sure Birmingham has similar Wichita vibes you strive for.

Like I always say.  WackyTowny always claims he’s having fun while traveling. But inside he’s angst laden and nervous because the usuals from his favorite JOCO burb bar aren’t there and the people don’t always have that comforting Midwestern Germanic lilt.

In this case you’re just there for a couple of days and hopefully watching at least 2 Bball games.  Otherwise I agree.  Legacy Arena in BHAM is just a few blocks from that Museum and the Civil Rights trail.

As an aside.  The new terminal at KCI is almost an exact clone of the design of BHAM’s airport (the BHAM city hall and KCMO city hall look almost identical as well).

If you're into racing, particularly motorcycles it's hard to beat this place for a visit

It's likely (but not always) going to be warm/warmer, so if you like golf, try to book a stay here

There's people who can have a long weekend just about anywhere and have fun and do interesting things, and then there's hyper provincial sticks in the mud who bitch and moan that it's just not like home or isn't as exciting as one of the approximately 3 maybe 4 (and even that's debatable) destination larger cities in these United States.

I may have driven half way across the country to see Barbers Motorcycle museum.  And plan to ride the motorcycle down to the vintage festival.  Dax, if you get the chance and are willing to deal with the crowd, id highly recommend.
