So, when did KState start doing the hand sign? A squawk friend tried to tell me that it’s only been a few years and it was ripped off from Baylor. I’ll admit it wasn’t a thing when I was there in early 90s but I know it’s been a while. A google search says about 2005. Does that sound about right?

I think i was told it started in/around the Ron Prince era. Supposed to be a Wc (Wildcat?). But 2005-2007 sounds about right.

whenever it started, it’s stupid

Your friend got that off of phog.net because my friend that reads phog texted the exact same thing

I think it's kinda neat, but pretty sure Arizona came up with it first so that makes it not real cool for us to use it.
-
I feel like it revved up after Prince left
-
Feel like A&M did it forever ago for their “wrecking crew”. Which makes it even dorkier
-
What about the rocking back and forth during the Wabash?

Kay kid and fatty invented that at a basketball tourney

Yeah, it was around then. I started with the band. They would do it with one of their drum deals, the one where they do the chant that sounds chop adjacent. They would make that hand sign while doing the "chop." Ironically enough, they still do that chop, but I'm not sure how many students make the WC while doing the chop.
And the KU guy is kinda right, the hand sign was definitely a by product of all the Texas hand signs.
-
Correct. The band started it and the specific drum/vocal cadence thing you’re referencing is based on Immigrant Song, by Led Zeppelin.
The hand signal is a literal ripoff of the A&M Wrecking Crew hand sign they’ve been doing for years. It’s identical. It’s also very, very blowjobby because it’s always coupled with a WOOOO scream.
-
Used to hate it, no idgaf about it. I never do it, but it's whatever iyam.
The return of the :lynchmob: is truly great tho. As is having a defense utterly and absolutely worthy of it.

My little boy took it upon himself at the game to try to figure out how to do the Lunch Mob sign. I looked over and he was trying to work his little fingers into the sign and I teared up. #CircleOfLife
-
Certain members of the band were doing it as early as 2003. Didn't catch on wide until a few years later. No idea who patient zero is tho

I thought this thread was going to be about the very vulgar one Jason King made towards me in the OOD.

I thought it was from this as well

You thought that it was from this because it is, which thusly makes it...quite lame. There are countless images of it, but here are two:

To be fair A&M really doesn't have a need for that anymore.
I am in the camp that hand-signs are kind of dumb and infected the conference when the Texas teams joined. They all had them.
-
It's incumbent on you people to irl PI the hand-sign'rs.

I never liked the hand sign, but our players do it all the time now. There’s no going back.

Yes, they did it first but very few people at K-State associated it with the wrecking crew then, and now there isn't a single student that does. No one knows what the hell that is.
-
Tang and staff like it. I now like it

Guys, were old now. It doesn't matter what we like. Just what the players find dope/
-
i've never loved it, but it is a pretty convenient thing to rely on when you don't know what else to do with your hands and want to express emaw to someone.

This is true. Like when you’re driving in a weird city and see some other car approaching with one of those awful flamey powercat front license plates.
Also ftr as long as we’re talking about it, over the last few years I’ve had like eight different people who aren’t that familiar with Qat football or the Big 12 ask me, “Why does your students’ section mime giving oral in the bleachers when they come back from time outs?”

There's no reason not to like it, only if you want to be a crotchety ass old.
-
I feel like MIR doesn't know what "no cap" means.

The follow up comment wasn't for 7 it was for the grumpy ass hater olds like trim. I was the first person on this board to ever utter the phrase "no cap."

Post it, KK!

I always associated the :lynchmob: with Josh Buhl. I wasn't a fan back then so I take it as gospel from my best friends that it started with him around 02/03.
-
Yeah, it definitely did not. It was early 90s, for sure. I started at K-State in '96 and it was in full swing then. In fact, by the time Buhl was doing it, the debate about stop calling the defense the lynch mob was in full throat. They very well may have only been "the mob" by then.
-
The last Bob Stoops DC year, (1995) when we ended the season #1 in total defense, and posted three consecutive shutouts was the first time I remember it getting thrown up.

Scene: 11pm on the Friday before the sugar bowl. ben ji and some friends are feeling good and roll up to a bourbon street daiquiri bar and the girls go to the restroom. Barkeep starts doing the WC sign with some extra motion saying he learned it from some katz fans earlier in the day.
ben ji: Yeah it does kind of look like you are sucking d**k
barkeep: At least you said it
ben ji: The real Katz handsign is the lynch mob, thats what we call our defense (throws up :lynchmob:)
barkeep: How do you do that again? And wait, its called the lynch mob?!?!
ben ji: (throws up :lynchmob:)
barkeep: Lynchmob?
ben ji: Uh yeah....(thinks about explaining how its totally not racist but just decides to leave it be)
barkeep: And you really call it the lynch mob?
ben ji:

Should’ve taught him :combofan:

Does KK even subscribe to the mercury anymore?

In THIS economy?!?
-
It's not called the lynch mob anymore, the players don't even call it that so that crutch is gone. It's just The Mob.
-
Benji get your ass back down there and set the record straight with that barkeep
-
Heading over there in a couple weeks. Gonna need a bar name. Will correct the young bartender.

who is that old man?

Purple cheesehead makes me think he's an alma resident.
-
I don't know who he is but he sure makes me look young.
-
He looks like he has a story to tell

Appears to be a better listener, iyam.

I'm not sure what it is about him but the first image that pops in my head is Tiny from House of 1000 Corpses

That's a perfectly reasonable guess based on appearance but as a resident Almanian I do not recognize him.
