S Tier - Fall, Summer
D Tier - Winter
F Tier - Spring
Spring sucks so much ass. If it's warm it's only warm for a tiny window and then the wind blows like a MF and it rains and now it's 40 degrees again. Just such a shitty season. Give me 100 degree summer days at the pool or ballpark or a brisk (but reliable) fall day of hoddies and football. Winter is pretty garbagey too. It's cold but it's supposed to be so you know what you're getting at least which makes it far superior to shitty spring.
-
Spring would probably be the best if my allergies weren't so bad throughout most of it. 40 degree evenings are awesome.
-
this is my first time experiencing seasons in like ten years and my problem with spring in New York is it's called spring and actually, it's not. It's just winter 2.0. There were like two nice days three weeks ago and that doesn't count.
-
Spring and fall each have 1-3 weeks of the best weather of the year and the remainder is winter/summer lite. Anyone who doesn't think spring and fall are easily the best seasons has a malfunctioning brain.
-

yeah, spring rough ridin' sucks and we all hate it
-
I don't grill/bbq anything in the winter really so I enjoy busting that back out in the spring. That's about it though.

This is the correct answer
-
the only problem with spring is it turns into summer too damn fast.
-
Spring is giant tease. It is the best of times and the worst of times. The warm sunshine following winter is magnificent. But the trails are a mix of snow and ice and mud and nothing angers me more than a beautiful day with unusable trails.
-

don't recall when you moved (late summer/early fall?) but fun nugget about summers...sure the temp isn't as hot as places like KS (definitely much hotter than SF tho) but when you have to walk everywhere you still get plenty damn sweaty. The non-air conditioned subway stations in the summer...yowza. You have to like, go stand at the top of the stairs so that when the train goes through the tunnel that slug of air whooshes up the stairs to give you a little breeze and then you're like crap what has my life come to, i'm standing here sweating my balls off in the subway praying for a blast of subway tunnel air to provide me a brief respite from this hellscape.
Although idk, maybe the area of Brooklyn that you're in has more modern subway stations. No such luck on the A/C stations in Bed Stuy
-
Fall is the best and I just tolerate everything else.

I would switch Winter and Spring on your list, but pretty much agree. Winter is the worst rough ridin' thing ever.

I moved in August so I got a taste of it. I sweated a ton but didn't notice any subway stations being extra hot.
-
I kinda like North Texas weather cause late Fall through early Spring is pretty reliably great (coinciding with good sports) other than the ocasional 90 and 30 degree days sprinkled in. Everything else is just different shades of hot.
Everywhere I’ve lived Spring has been a total scam. Great in theory but rarely temperate and brings a crap ton of allergens to my nose and weeds to my lawn.

spring is amazing you freaks

"yeah spring is worse than winter because sometimes spring feels almost as bad as winter" what the eff is wrong with you

people forget that spring ends June 21st or whatever. June 1-21 rules

it's because it's the last two months of winter. Like the last month of winter can be identical weather wise to the first month of winter but the last month will be worse because you're sick of the crap. Also it's winter without snow*. *the best part of winter, by far

Gaffigan has a funny set about Spring being one day. Okay it's not much of a set. That's the joke.

Summer - you can do everything
Spring - leaving winter
Fall - still get some summer but here comes winter

Yeah...Spring for me just has so much optimism associated with it. We're almost allowed to go outside again!
Pound for pound, weather-wise, fall is better than spring, but fall has a winter-dread effect. Hope>Dread.

upper midwest spring is way worse than a KC spring (also way worse than an upper midwest fall)

-
Fall - Perfect weather/football/holiday season. The only downside is the days are getting shorter.
Summer - The 95+ days with humidity that smacks you in the face suck but there are not THAT many of them.
Spring - Nothing better than the first string of 70+ degree days but then it's 45 and cloudy for another month.
Winter - February is easily the worst month.
-
Summer has July and August. It's worst by default unless you live somewhere where the heat never gets above 90.

I'll add the best season of all of these is Michigan Summer. It's warm enough to go outside and do water stuff and stay outside at night, but you could almost get by without AC. If you're by a lake it's just the best. Plus you just survived a six month wither which makes it all that much sweeter.

how are the bugs up there in the Summer?

One thing about living in the midwest is people are always stunned there are cold days in April.
"It's April! I thought we were done with this stuff!"
It's like this every year.
-
The cold days in April aren't even that cold, though. People just enjoy not being happy.

True but this march had to be one of the coldest on record. April isn't starting much better

If every spring day was like today in KC (80 degrees, no humidity) I would like spring alot more.

Western KS is a completely different story weatherwise than Eastern KS. Back in '75 an elderly couple froze to death on I-70 around the Colby area from an April 23rd blizzard.

This KC spring March and April has been absolutely one of the worst I'm convinced. Trash.

If (when) I became president my first moves would be:
1. Metric system adoption
2. No time change
3. Seasons are now as follows:
Summer: June-August
Fall: Sep-Nov
Winter: Dec-Feb
Spring: Mar-May
No more random start to the season in the middle of some month whose weather isn't even aligned with said season. We don't care about sun and moon crap.

Spring is def the biggest bad person season. Hey SF, I know you hate winter so take a look, finally not 30 below and it will be 73 tomorrow, its going to be great. Ha ha, the wind will be blowing 600 mph and you still can't really do anything outside, sucker!!!!

Recent SoCal midwestern transplant in Jan ‘22: I sure do miss the seasons.
Me: you thinking of moving back?
SCMT: LOL no. Let’s go play a quick nine.
Me: ok, let me put shorts on and I’ll meet you in the cart.
-
As I always say, if I've learned even 4 things in this world, they are:
1.) Seasons change;
2.) And I tried hard just to soften you;
3.) But I've grown tired of trying to change for you;
4.) 'Cause I've been waiting on you.

yeah, i'd totally miss 90 mph winds, hail, 12 degrees with a wind chill of 18 below, 104 degrees with 98% humidity while chilling on my patio at 80 and sunny every day. :dubious:

I'm not sure here, but I think I'd rather take my chances with a tornado than a bunch of large hail. I'd totally miss this stuff if it was 80 and sunny all the time though.

just move SD, good lord.

I kind of breezed over this original opinion. SD really hate spring!

One thing I like about spring is that I can watch the trees I planted when they were babies get more leaves than the previous year and then go through their yearly growth spurt.

Yes, and see what type of tree trimming might need to be done on your young, growing tree.

A question you have to ask yourself is do you like going to the pool everyday?

Constantly sunny and 75 in SoCal is a cheap sun.
If we never had to walk through the valleys of super hot and super cold days, we would't be able to fully appreciate the 75 degree sunshine on the mountaintop. <--- Inspirational poster material right here

It takes 2 months to be sick of winter and 2 weeks to be sick of summer. So rough ridin' gross.

It’s been at least 100 for almost the past 3 weeks straight so summer has been here for a while. It’s not as humid as back home tho, so far anyways.

Being from KC and having a cat ranch in NW Kansas it's amazing how much less humidity there is out west but still in the same state.
The sun does definitely hit harder at 3k ft in a cloudless day western KS than it does at 1K feet in KC.

Winter makes me lethargic and want to binge on carbs. In contrast, my summers are full of outdoor activities, way more vigorous exercise, and a much better diet. I'm so much healthier overall in the summer.

summer in NYC is just a delight. It's hardly gotten above 90 all summer. But I've heard August and September are the worst.
going back to chum's post about seasonal health, I definitely want to booze outside constantly and cook at home less (because it gets hot as eff if you cook on a hot day) but I'm also walking and sweating more. so it might be a wash.

My place has three units with the owner in the bottom unit. They have exclusive access to the back yard and don't share. There is a front patio where the trashcans are and I have seen people in the neighborhood put grills there but we haven't asked our landlord if we could. Maybe next summer but I'm guessing they would say no. Grilling was definitely a go-to during no-AC-california hot days
On especially hot days that we feel like we need to dine in we get the good meat and bread from the deli and make "italian" sandwiches

So another Canada (well specifically the town I am in) thing, you can actually have grills, actual grills, on apartment decks here. It blows my mind that is allowed.

My house is great during the day but gets hot af at night and I have to run the ac a little to get it cooled back down :frown:
have you considered having windows installed? might pay off if you're going to live there for a few years.
The windows are open in the above scenario

Had to break out a second blanket for bed last night.

is it actually hot or does it just feel hot? Ours can get stuffy in Spring/Fall, but it's actually a comfortable temp when i look at the thermo. Being around a fan does the trick.
-
Actually hot, it was 73 when I got home from work, which is warmer than I usually enjoy but comfortable, but up to 78 at 9pm when turned the ac on for an hour. Like you would expect this to happen around 3-5 pm, not 8-10. Maybe my place just has amazingly superior insulation? Or maybe amazingly shitty insulation? The south side does take the sun all day so I think it's just radiating that heat even after the outside temp goes down.
-
if you have windows open on all 4 sides of your house i am convinced that what you are describing is impossible whenever it's sub-82 degrees outside

I think the heat that builds up in the attic during the day contributes to this.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

You have lots of thermal mass that absorbs the energy from sun and then releases it back at night, need to vent that crap out in the evening.
-
Our bedroom is in the attic basically and while its insulated quite well, it is always hotter in there even on cool days with windows open. Have to really crank a couple fans with all the windows open at night to cool it down, even with that I often turn on the mini-split for 20 min to get rid of the heat that gets trapped in the room.
I'm not a monster mocat.

How do you know if your house is good or bad at doing thermal mass?

Large swings in evening temp would be a good indicator. If it gets “hotter” in your house as the evening temps get cooler, it’s because your house is now releasing its stored energy. Green house operations use “heat sinks” such as large barrels of water to achieve a similar outcome to level load the temp during the day and night. The barrels absorb the heat during the day and keep the greenhouse from heating too rapidly and then act as a heat source at night when temps drop back down.

this year i installed a solar powered attic vent fan, along with some lower intake vents at the eaves. game changer for the 2nd floor in the summer

Absolute boss move, well done.

This is fascinating. I’m curious does this phenomena also happen on overcast days or just sunny days?

Wow. I didn’t know this was a thing. I just bought a super expensive new furnace/heat pump and ac unit before summer and it did make a huge difference in pumping more cool air up stairs, and lower cost. But, I didn’t know to talk to anyone about attic vents. Hmmmmm

Spent Saturday sitting in a park watching one of the little 'Croppings play tennis. Sat in my lawnchair, enjoyed peaceful tennis vibes and cool fall air, sipped coffee and intermittently watched the 'Cats. I'm gonna soak up this fall.

The WW fam had a nice Sunday in the park as well. Sounds of acorns dropping, some leaves falling, and kids shrieking really is a wonderful combo.

Guys, its not going well. Winter has already gripped my ballz and made me irrationally angry at pretty much everything. I hate it so much. I'm going to the beach in Feb, but i'm afraid I won't make it that long without killing a drifter or something. Should I get one of those lights or something? Any advice is appreciated.
-
Where do you live that late fall feels like winter already? taking supplemental vitamin D and getting UV lights definitely can help.

Yeah, that's the issue. I'm already losing it and it isn't even winter yet. May look into some lights.

The days are getting longer now.

I think the Germans have a word for this season. Roughly translates to something like "the gray cold bleakness."

I searched for the winter lovers here, but they are too cowardly and hide.
If they are found, I will demand that they are brought to justice.

Winter is my second favorite. It was nice today, Thursday and Friday were worse than summer though.

Winter is great. So much better than 103. I went to get lunch & it was 18. Didn’t even need the seat warmer. 36 hours of needing the heavy socks is so much better than 6 weeks of living on the surface of the sun.

It's supposed to be like 60's-70's when I go back to TX. That's how winter should be.

Kansas perspective: early winter is great. Mid jan to mid feb is frozen hell and only redeemed by basketball.

I went ice skating in central park today! It was like 15 degrees but still fun!

Not a single person is even really arguing winter is good (impossible) they are just making excuses for why it shouldn’t be seen as so bad.
Very revealing. All in front of baby Jesus. Shameful.

I don’t care what season it is when it happens, but when the air feels like a crisp mountain evening/morning it’s absolutely the best. Heavenly weather.
-
My favorite is when people say winter is not that bad because occasionally there's a flukey day as nice as a mid tier day from any of the other 3 seasons

Well it seems like we are agreed. No reason to be adversarial, in this case.

I can't imagine bitching about this winter after the scorching hell that summer was.

It's 5:45 and completely dark outside. Winter is hands down the worst season.

I have had a full year+ in NYC after 10 season-less years and the changing of seasons here is so fun. Winter has snow and the chill is invigorating and summer is hot as balls but every season makes you change how you do things and it's all just great.
Happy new year everybody

I got back to TX today and had to turn the A/C on because my apartment was hot AF.

SIAP but this is so good. Seriously, I went outside at 6pm this week and it wasn’t pitch black. I’m gaining some optimism about spring.

I think if KSU MBB and WBB are both good, winter in Kansas might not be so bad. (I will need to find a way to exercise my dog without fracturing my wrist).
