Do you understand that you are a gigantic hypocrite and just not care, or are you blind to the fact?
-
What do you mean?
-
Just that most politically obsessed people are extremely partisan, and extremely partisan people are hypocrites.
-
Do you think most people that aren't political are hypocrites?
-
to be a partisan requires hypocrisy
to be political does not require you to be a partisan
-
Another thread where 33 claims to be better than everyone else because he just can't be bothered to care about politics. How exciting.
-
Just ribbing you starseedseven. Now, answer the question please.
-
People that take pride in not following the news or caring about the world they live in but decide to feel superior to those that do, do you understand you are a gigantic hypocrite and just don't care or are you blind to the fact?
Answer the question.
-
I’ll be honest, I mostly just follow politics (at least on this board) because it presents a lot of interesting topics to hash through with my fellow gE-ers. I guess that and in case I am in a position of power one day it would be nice not to be completely clueless.

Hey, start a new thread bud.

I just don't care and I don't know why anyone else would care so I'm going post in this thread instead. Why does it bother you?
-

No
Are you hypocritical about anything?
-
I'm not a blind hypocrite like those extremists on either side of me.
-

I've read on this blog that if you are bipartisan you are unintelligent just fyi. So tread lightly.
-

Are you okay today? Honestly.

This is a jibberish sentence. You've never read that, on here, because it doesn't make the least bit of sense. If you did, link it so that we can all make fun of them, Chris Rock style.

sounds like something dax might have said
-
Nah, he thinks he's the one true moderate here.
-
low information voters (independents)
lol
They tend to be! But also look at the education tabs.
Independent : bipartisan. potato : potato

he is one to contradict himself though
-
I am glad you started this thread. I have always been a bastion.....? for pointing out the biggest hypocrites on this board because of their partisanship. I am one of the few bipartisan's on this board. :whistle1: (ftp://:whistle1:)

This is definitely better evidence of you being a dumbass than you being an independent.
-
My actual answer is unintelligent does not mean low information voter and independent does not mean bipartisan and I don’t actually think you are a dumbass. But true undecideds are actually a lot like _33 in that they think they are too clever to bother reading anything to know any of the basic facts.

That’s fair enough (and the pit gonna pit) but honestly no actual good conversations/debates seems to happen. Everyone seems so rooted in their own party they don’t actually listen to anything but are more prioritized for debating ones position. Also why some of us get turned off by politics (myself included although I do pay attention). I get my guy cd33s point though. What’s the overall objective? The pit reads like a Facebook comment section. It’s easier to call someone a MAGA or a libtard and none of us are changing what’s going on in the world or probably another peers mind

I find interesting conversation here all the time, and I've absolutely been influenced by opinions I read here. Like sys has transformed into a violent moderate and I disagree with him a lot but I pretty much always find his posts interesting (even if they're a bit nitpicky). DLew always seems to come with an open mind and a perspective that's different than my own. steve dave is a rough ridin' republican who worships ted sasse but I always appreciate his posts. I thought a lot of people genuinely tried to learn from each other in the trans swimmer thread.
:dunno:
(I also put dax on ignore :peek:)

kat kid is correct in that assertion. many people are independent because they aren't very interested in politics and it shouldn't be a surprise that people that aren't interested in a subject don't tend to make the effort to stay well-informed on that subject.
-
I agree with mich cat. I am definitely guilty of adopting the pit armor and venom when posting too often and there is a place for some of that, but if you look at my posts and many others they are not just dunk attempts. I spent a lot of the Bush era typing out very long posts about torture and people would shrug and say “who care” but that was as much about me learning and working through stuff as trying to appeal to some of the people that posted there. If they took the time and read it that was enough for me even if they disagreed. And for the most part I think even Dax has some really important things that he brings up. I think his bit is a little tired and wished sometimes he would just say what he thinks but I take the good with the bad.
-
How lazy do you have to be to think that staging a coup is something that both sides do?

Yeah I’m fine. I might be lashing out because of my frustration with the housing market. Sorry everyone.

I consider myself an independent, but I try my best to stay informed about political and civic matters. I view the two political parties as religions, and I don't like the idea that I have to accept--whole cloth--the entirety of a side's platform. That said, Trump(ism) has definitely caused me to vote for more dems than I used to.

Yep. And any republican that thinks a second term for trump is a good idea I would meet at the ernie Barrett statue.

i (mostly) consider myself an independent as well. it's not that all independents are less-informed, but that a larger subset of independents are.
of course, it's more complex than that very simple model that kat kid and i outlined (for example, better educated individuals tend to be more ideological, presumably because they are more aware and/or less tolerant of inconsistencies among their political opinions), but that explanation is sufficient to explain a good chunk of it
-
Also why politics and career politicians are so frustrating.

i don't see a benefit to worry about political stuff in my life. but i'm glad that there's people who do.
-
It’s a shame that Americans allowed ourselves to be polarized. I am definitely less patriotic than when I was young, and generally not overly concerned about the continuation of the human species. It’s a big universe….it will be fine.
-

We’d probably be so much better off if we all actually payed attention to our local races and tried to ignore party divisions at the national level. People get burnt out on politics because the (national) stuff we all read about makes it feel so hopeless.
-
local races are definitely far more impactful
I also think that we should strive to be more civil in our discourse. (something I personally need to work on)
That being said I often disagree with a point in the moment of discussion but often reflect on the position. While I don't always necessarily agree or adopt the viewpoint I can accept the logic behind it and better understand where someone is coming from.
-
I'm definitely not an independent, not even close. I'd love to not be an extremist but our country is the only one in the democratic western world to politicize both civil/human rights and healthcare. So here we are. I will literally die fighting for universal health care and equal rights for all Americans, and frankly that's sad as eff.

Yeah I can see "both sides" of a lot of issues but it's difficult with those two.
-
these are the primary issues that make me a "liberal" in this country
which is very sad
-
Yeah, but I don’t want to pay for their basic human rights with my hard earned money!
