Is leading your Kansas State Wildcats out of the tunnel today! #emaw
-
I hope he doesn't fall in the tunnel and hurt himself.
-
Like with his pads on? Bc otherwise I’m not sure why this matters
-
I hear he's taking pre-game snaps!!1

50% Skyler is better than those other guys

Time for this legend to do legend things!
-
great game management so far sky
-
That last throw is exactly what makes you shake your head about QB development. Like he didn’t even realize a safety was over the top.

didn't help that he threw it off his back foot with no pressure. it was an awful throw

He’s beating the #6 team right now, dorks!

he was not great but yes so much better than the alternatives.

He’s good enough to get us 4 more wins imo. If we win farmageddon 8 is on the table.

Eh, maybe it was just seeing vs the alternatives but I felt like the poise, throws, was all very good

Understandably, he had happy feet and was zero threat to run. Also threw a few terrible balls.
But I agree he's a thousand times better than the alternatives

I didn't care he wasn't a threat to run, I think it forced him to think more, there were some poor throws but he made a lot of clutch throws, and even with some happy feet he still settled to make a throw, hell were were almost 5 for 5 on 4th down, and even that was close. It was a gusty performance.

He did as well as a QB could do with this receiving core.

So did Howard.
Sky is legitimately a good QB. He’s clearly hampered by not being able to run and having a weak receiving corps.

Will Howard loses this game by 40

Skylar was awesome today. He did many things that young Skylar or any of our current young QBs didn't do. With the exception of the pass he threw to the safety that he dropped, he stepped into every single pass. He was fantastic in going through his progressions. You all say he wasn't a threat to run but the Oklahoma linebackers sure in the hell thought so. Every time he stepped up in the pocket they reacted to him and it opened up passing windows. I'm not going to go back and watch but if that's your thing keep track of his passing percentage when he stepped up in the pocket. This is actually better for him if he can continue to find open players when he does this because he can run less.
His line was 29/41 320 yards 3TDs 0INTs, that's fantastic, by any standard. Anyone saying he was just okay is either unaware or disingenuous.
I think we beat Oklahoma State with him on the field.

We desperately need a transfer QB, the delta between Skylar and what we have is so big. I would say Rattler and UT’s Thompson are a cut above what Sky can do and Bohanan and Purdy maybe slightly better but he’s at worst the 5th best QB in the league. Our offense looks pretty darn good with even a league average QB.

I agree with all of this, but especially this. Once our defense put the clamps down on OSU we didn't have a chance with Howard and a slightly better chance with Lewis but it was still basically hapless trying to score, we'd have done more than enough to win. Also we wouldn't have given up that dumb ass fumble TD.

Purdy is way too turnover prone, I couldn't imagine how awful that offense would look without that threat of Hall. Bohannon's even remotely good passing games have only been against Texas Southern and KU, the other three games they have played his numbers have been very similar to Will Howard.

Average.
Mediocre.
Serviceable at best.
Evidence Kli/Klein can’t develop QBs.

We have the best QB in the league and Deuce Vaughn , we should easily go 6-3. 9 wins here we come!

A Messingham offense can be successful with Howard at the helm, but only if they're willing to run Will 12-15 times a game.

Doege has always been butt at WVU and they don't like him. He's legitimately has had 4 good games, unfortunately for us, two of them have been against K-State.
We're going to lose to tech and beat WVU. Both streaks have been fluky and both will end this year.

He’s a great guy! Slightly above average college QB.
-
I like him a lot. he’s a below average starting college quarterback but an above average overall college quarterback. he’s also by far our best quarterback which isn’t great for us.
-

He’d look even better if we had legit P5 WR’s. Guy is slinging it to 5’3 Phillip Brooks and Kurt Warner’s kid.
-
His interception was pretty gross, but man, did we have some big drops last night. Anyways, whatevs, I might eff around and get a Sky tat, because he’s a pretty cool cat!
-
He also had two TERRIBLE fumbles.
-

Yeah, I don’t really remember that. I was out with friends playing bocce ball last night. That stinks that happened.

I think we've all come to the conclusion that Sky is a serviceable/good P5 QB at this best and marginally better than Howard at his worst. Unfortunately, he just doesn't consistently play near his ceiling.
-
Agreed. Thompson is decent but not overly consistent. Yesterday was a prime example of that
-
maybe if he had 6 more years in a d1 program he would gain some consistency
-
It really sucks that we have already seen his backups. Can't even start a chicken little thread.
-
I thought he was okay last night. Not great, not horrible. 99% of college QBs will have games like that. The INT wasn't horrible, whatever that means, the window to get that ball in wasn't huge. If he underthrew it there was a DB in front of Malik that would have picked it and Malik mistimed his jump which didn't help.
Also there was only one drop, it was a key drop for sure with Brooks on that third down, but it was the only drop.
-
No matter how bad Skyler is this season I hope our backups never see the field again.

You are more mobile now than Jason White was his senior year and he was a system quarterback.
-
Yeah, I agree. I barely touched a rim today at 6’4” on our walk and I told the wife I was 100% finished as an athlete. I asked her how some of these late 30 NBA stars do it now. And our conclusion was: Vince freaking, Carter is under appreciated.

I don't know how I (everyone...) missed this but it's a damn funny zinger that didn't get the love it deserves.

One of those drives he looked super sharp. Reminded me of watching Matt Ryan in a BC game a while back (although without the time pressure).

He may not be the best we’ve had, or reached the heights of team achievement our greats have, but he’s pretty damn good and should absolutely go down as one of the most beloved Cats of all time.

100% cat through and through

Someone please make a gif of him firing the guns after the Knowles TD.

Yeah, end of the day, 6 years with the quatz, 6 wins (which is still less than half the streak  ) Skylar deserves a lot of props. Tons of adversity, and still potentially up to 4 wins left to pick up. Helluva career.
Side note, dat streak :sdeek:
Teenager now. Remember what started it, the 17-10 game in 2009.
Also, love that I am apart of this photo:

He’s been out due to injury most of it, red shirted, and had to fiddle eff around with Dalton, but with the worst receiving core in the history of K-State, but who cares about semantics, right?!

Can we have at least one day that isn't centered on feeding wacky's persecution complex? If not, can we limit it to one thread?

You and Mich seemed like you were high fiving a lot in your own thread about the game. My apologies for interrupting with rational takes. I should know my place. My bad.

Truth bomb.

Thompson is an above average college QB and I love him for it. Is he Klein/Roberson/Bishop? No.
But I would put him on the same level as Waters/Beasley/May.

The comp is Ell as those are the two closest we've had to 4 year starters. Ell had 33 starts, this was Skylar's 36th.
Rusty, saying he has averaged 4 wins a year is really dumb and you're better than that.

Maybe we need to get mocat in here because math can be hard.

All I know is Sky had like 150 passing yards today, but he made the plays exactly when needed and I love him for that.

I'm using a bit of hyperbole, it's actually fewer than 4 wins per year

Worth noting that when Skylar got hurt against Southern Illinois he walked on his own to the locker room, both he and McPherson were both carted off the sideline.

Seems to be a better fit for the Sky’s the Limit thread but whatever.
-
Wherever it was, he had a great game. Up there with his two wins over OU level good, and really passing this was his best game. Most his incompletions except that way over thrown potential TD to the TE in the endzone were drops or understandable decisions. He was focused and played lights out.
-
I do feel that but for that overthrow you’d have to call it pretty close to a perfect game.
-
That pass to Brooks on the sideline when he was in a pocket of there defensive backs was the best pass of his career.

Yes literally the first time I ever have seen the metric but obviously it is super important and needs to be priority #1 for NFL scouts this year imo.

He’ll probably be a practice squad guy first. Teams generally only have 2 QB’s on the 53 on Sunday.

Quite surprised by his velocity. You can reference my posts referring to Sky’s lack of “zip” for confirmation. Want nothing but the best for our guy Sky. A true KSU’r #1CAT type if there ever was one.

If there’s one thing he can do, is zip it. Unfortunately, he’s never had receivers for it.

His delivery always seemed painfully slow to me so I am obviously a crap qb scout

Plus, dude was dinged up (at the least) for most of his college career

That was just his reads on the play, because nobody was ever open.

Our WRs weren't great but Skylar had problems getting through his progressions too.

Absolutely. His biggest weakness by far.

no i mean his actual throwing motion

Def a weakness but I was also counting him vs Howard and that is like night and day so it always looked way better to my lqbiq eye
-

Absolutely. His biggest weakness by far.
His biggest weakness is being injury prone. If he doesn’t get signed that will be the biggest factor I think. Sky has pretty consistently played great when fully healthy.
-
I think Skylar can throw the ball. I've just always been mystified by one aspect of his game though: You know how for the Steelers Big Ben would stand in the pocket (not a super mobile dude...) and some defender would come flying through and hit his leg, etc. and Ben would just go ahead and throw the ball like nothing happened? Well, Skylar seems to fall down more in those situations. Or he will often side step them, take off and then trip over the next yard marker on the field. :dunno: In today's NFL where QB's are either expected to be a bit of a threat out of the pocket or a super poised robot like Brady I don't know where he's gonna fit?
-
He's not going anywhere past the scout team so the negatives don't really matter as long as he can throw a decent ball to whatever route the defense wants to work on.
-

Yeah, he’ll probably be a 3rd string guy in the league, which usually amounts to the practice squad these days. Even if this happens, I’m super happy for him. He’s overcame a lot. Easy guy to root for.
-
Absolutely, it's still a great accomplishment
-
His delivery always seemed painfully slow to me so I am obviously a crap qb scout
Pretty much everyone is, including people that get paid very well to be good at it.
-
The problem with this assessment is I’m glued in on Mahomes on Sundays. That dude makes everyone look slow on progressions. I think Sky’s limit is back up, but could do some work ads fill in from time to time.
-
Watching Skylor throw the ball at the Combine. Skylor passed the ball to a receiver about 20yrds out and it hits him hard in the chest and of course, he misses it as it bounces out. The talking head says he can really throw the ball but needs to control the speed of the ball. Tell it to Marino. Thank Gawd, Kurt Warner it there to defend Skylor as he says Skylor has the strongest arm out thereafter he throws a long ball perfectly in the arms of the receiver.
His accuracy is due to the shitty receivers he had to work with over the years.
-
I imagine going in, he was told that arm strength was a concern

I'd be pretty surprised if there is even 1 scout that gets turned off by a QB that throws too hard.

His shuttle results are much better than his 40 times. I think that matches what we saw on the field, much more of an evasive runner than a burner.

That what Klien was; a very smart and elusive runner, but not quick.
-
40 isn’t really a measure of quickness. I mean it’s almost half a football field. And Klein sure seemed fast on the field compared to the defense when he got in space. Although you wouldn’t guess it just by looking at him.

The day that Skylar Thompson suits up on a NFL Sunday we are going to play some golf then head to the closest casino that has sports betting available and double down on Skylars team to cover. The top 2 QB's on the Texans will go down and then Skylar steps in to lead a crucial TD drive at the end to help us cover the +14 spread.
(He will be named the starter and go 2-1 inspiring all sorts of hope in the Texans before tweaking his knee and finishing the season on IR)

I may have mentioned this earlier but I latched onto wacky's Skylar's love and ended up betting a buddy a benjamin that Skylar will make a 53 man roster at some point in his career.
Lets do this Skylar! Make a 53 man roster this year! I will buy wacky like 1-2 beers the next time we play golf after Skylar makes a roster.

Skylar has the easiest path to being a starting QB in the history of QBs.
Teddy Bridgewater is still on the roster and I’m sure signed a decent 1 year deal. My guess is they’ll keep him hidden on the practice squad this year, unless there’s an injury and he’ll have a chance to be a true #2 next year. Nobody suits 3 QB’s on game day anymore, unfortunately.

— It was another very light day for Teddy Bridgewater, who took his turn for three sets in team drills after being kept out of teams Monday because of a minor injury. Bridgewater mostly handed off, though, as he completed his only pass attempt, a swing pass to running back Salvon Ahmed.
— Skylar Thompson had his best performance in a couple of practices, completing 5 of 9 passes (again, by our unofficial count). He showed nice zip on his passes and had long completions to Waddle and Trent Sherfield.

Dolphins are going to try and sneak him on the practice squad with Tua and Teddy in front of him with contracts. I'll be interested to see if they Pringle him and put him on the fake IR list, so they can stash him for next wear to be QB2, when Teddy's contract is done. I'm not sure he passes waivers if they try and place him on the practice squad. He's had a crap ton of hot buzz this off season.

That was my first thought - man, Thompson's good, but not great. He can play and win over half the games he starts, and is a good student of the playbook. Yeah, I can see him holding a clipboard for 8 - 10 NFL seasons, collecting around $10 million/year.
I hope I'm wrong, and Skylar makes a name for himself as a starting QB in the NFL. Miami looks as good as any to do that.
-
I have a feeling his knees won't be able to hold up over a full season if he were a starter. The one play were he stumbled, or his foot was stepped on, and his knee went into the turf, you can see him grab at his knee. Maybe with more time as a backup, they will get better.
I think a better comparo is to Drew Brees rather than Chase Daniel. His ability to read the defens is pretty great.
-
I think his knees will hold up just fine and he will have a nice little career.
-
I think he’s the oldest QB on the roster or at least older than Tua

Second drive, down by 2: another good looking trip down the field, but stalls out in field goal range. Our kicker hits the post, and that's that.
Our Guy finishes 9-10, 129, 1 TD over his two drives. Jim Rose, the Fins radio PBP guy, said he doesn't believe Skylar makes the 53, but he was starting to change his tune during that second drive, after a couple of great throws.

No argument here, of course. I think he assumes the Fins stick with Teddy as the veteran backup, and a 3rd QB on the roster is a luxury they just can't afford.

Usually the ceiling for a 7th round QB is the practice squad, but I don't think he clears waivers if the Fins try that. It would suck for me, but good for Skylar.
kono
-
Yeah, seems like a 7th round bargain who is a legit backup will find a new home fast

When your starter is Tua and backup is bridgewater a good 3rd is not at all a luxury

Do the fins have a quarterback controversy brewing? Or do people realize that Skyler is playing against lower level defenses in the preseason?

Whoever could have seen this coming?! :Wha: Not ok cat, that’s for sure!

I can think of worse ways for an NFL team to blow money then spending $750,000 on Skyler Thompson as a future backup quarterback option.

Two things I want for Sky.
1. Get the Bag
2. Start having babies and send them to KSU

who’s going to be the first to do it when he makes the 53 man?

This Jim Rose guy sounds like an idiot. Skylar is looking like QB1 in games. Your other QBs are awful.
No argument here, of course. I think he assumes the Fins stick with Teddy as the veteran backup, and a 3rd QB on the roster is a luxury they just can't afford.
kono
Is this the same Jim Rose who used to do the Nebraska play by play and was one of the biggest homers in the history of sport? He was also a huge prick to KSU players every chance he got.
-
I get that they want a vet backup on the team, but you can't risk losing a young, NFL caliber QB that you could have on a cheap contract for years. Teddy raises the floor of the team but Skyler, particularly if Tua hasn't convinced the ownership, could raise the ceiling. It's a mistake if the Dolphins try and get him on the practice squad and I assume another team will take advantage.

Yeah, I would be cutting Bridgewater if I were in charge of the Dolphins. Only a complete dumbass would get rid of your most productive QB, even if it is coming against the scrubs trying to make a roster. Bridgewater hasn't shown anything at all.
-
I'm not sure how Bridgewater's contract is setup, but i'm not sure it's that easy. I think he's due 10 mill this year. They're keeping sky tho.
-
Sky played all of week 1. Did the starters not play for the other team there? I would assume he got at least some snaps against a first string.
-
One of two things is going to happen given his performance in the pre season.
1. Miami signs him to 53 man
2. Miami cuts him and designates him to practice squad and another team immediately snatches him and signs him the day he hits waivers.
-
Is this the same Jim Rose who used to do the Nebraska play by play and was one of the biggest homers in the history of sport? He was also a huge prick to KSU players every chance he got.
Sorry, I got the names conflated. The radio tandem is Jim Cefalo and Joe Rose, it was Jim who gave his opinion.

I would love the entertainment value of ST getting put on practice squad, picked up by another team and continuing to kick ass with other team.
Simultaneously, Tua ends up sucking ass as expected and Miami suffers indefinitely given their cap space with other talent and shitty QB play.

Looks like it's $6.5 million, and it's a one year deal, so there aren't any cap savings to be had by cutting him. Still, if you have to choose one or the other, you choose the guy you can lock up for a multi-year deal for less than $1 million per and eat the $6.5 million. Otherwise, you have to go overpay for some other journeyman backup next year.

Skylar is getting the second half of this final preseason game, he's thrown three touchdowns in his four drives to this point.
Radio Jimmy still doesn't think Miami can keep 3 QB. "Is he going to be your starter in the next five years? There's your answer." His partner Joe believes he's forced his way in.
Meanwhile, Bridgewater was 4/10 for 74, 0 TD with the twos tonight.

I've seen more comments that they trade Bridgewater as he probably has more immediate trade value.

He’s guaranteed 6.5 mill this year. Dolphins would be dumb af not to try and keep a young, cheap talent vs throwing Teddy to the Texans

Can't wait until game 5 when Tua goes down and Skylar is just dropping bombs to Tyreek all over the field.

I'm going to be really conflicted if the chefs play the fins in the playoffs and Skylar is their starting QB. I will still root for the chefs but it's a win win situation.

That has a bit of an asterisk on it, because he's only comparing qualifiers, meaning 10 attempts per game. Sam Ehlinger had a better rating, but only 29 attempts.
Here's some McDaniels coachspeak from today's presser:
(On QB Skylar Thompson and making a case for a third quarterback?) – "He's made it tough, hasn't he? No, I think those type of players that are able to, as rookies, come in and contribute, are always really exciting, and it's more rare that you see a quarterback doing that. It's more than just his quarterback rating and his completion percentage. He has owned the responsibility of the quarterback in terms of all the other players on the field with him. He's made them better by helping them get aligned, and we've had very few procedural issues. And so I think in preseason football, there are a lot of quarterbacks that get opportunities. It's rare that a guy can be a seventh-round draft pick and people outside of the organization actually know his name. I think he's opened eyes with the way he's played, and it's made that situation very tricky, in terms of whether or not you can try to have him on practice squad or keep him on the 53 (-man roster). But you know, much like a lot of players, I think he – especially one of the things I was most happy with in this past game is pretty much all the participants can hold their head high and stand on what they've done in the preseason, with the closing of it being last night. And he should hold his head high and hopefully rest easy because he has done quite literally everything you can to be a part of this team."

Everyone says this and then forgets that Skylar spent roughly about 50 percent of the last two years hurt. Even then, our offense was pretty good.
Mess screwed some stuff up and needed to go, but the biggest impact on our offense over the last two seasons was that Skylar all too often lacked the most important ability of all, availability

That and the drop off from Sky to the best backup in the country was astronomical.

Yep. And for that exact same reason I’ll be rooting my ass off for Sky, but even if he eventually gets the reins to an NFL offense I’m not holding my breath that he can make it through a full season.
Edit: FWIW, I also think Sky’s injury history was baked into him going in the 7th round.

Would be kinda nice if Sky made some big QB money and gave us a huge donation like Suh did for NU. Now, we prolly didn’t help Sky cover up multiple crimes, so apples and oranges maybe

Last I heard QB's minimum salary on the roster is $350,000. That was about 10-12 years ago, so I'm sure it has increased since then. He'll always be behind first-round drafted QBs, but if he stays in the NFL he will be well off.

The silver lining is that Skylar's early struggles are forcing the Dolphins to truly commit to the run game for the first time in recent memory, and hopefully that opens up some big plays for him. However, I don't expect to see them to leverage the QB run game, given that the next man up is a backup WR.

I thought he looked pretty decent considering the circumstances of his first action. There are a lot of 1st round picks who don't get on the field 5 team games after they've been drafted. It wasn't a disaster considering the difference in speed of the game from college and preseason to a full blown NFL game against a good defense. He was also let down by some untimely penalties and drops.

Caught a little of the game on 810 this afternoon, the radio announcers were very complimentary.

Absolutely a team failure. Failing to take the lead on the missed FG changed the tenor of the 4th, as well, as it took the playcalling away from what was working. I have no idea who is starting next against the Vikings, but I assume Skylar will get more practice reps this week. If they sign Reid Sinnett off the practice squad, then you know.

Given that both their QBs are in the protocol Sky will absolutely get a lot of reps this week in practice. It sounds like Bridgewater doesn't have any symptoms other than the stumble so he may be cleared to play for the game but no way he will practice this week. If they hadn't had the malpractice with Tua's concussion I am guessing Bridgewater would be a lock to start but they may be ultra conservative with him just to try and save face.

If they hadn't had the malpractice with Tua's concussion I am guessing Bridgewater would be a lock to start but they may be ultra conservative with him just to try and save face.
Yeah, I assume he'll get all the early reps. You're right about Teddy, he'll probably be on the shelf several days, but we haven't been told anything about Tua's progress.
kono
They were pretty aggressive in their messaging yesterday that Bridgewater would have been cleared to play yesterday but the new protocols didn't call for that.
-
Latest word is Bridgewater has had no symptoms since being pulled, and Tua has yet to return to football activities. I expect Skylar to be backing up Bridgewater next week.

I thought Miami was supposed to have good receivers but that video was a dropped pass compilation
-
It seemed his time to make a play was in the 3-4 second range. If they want him to be successful, he needs 5-6 seconds. Miami has an OL problem, and that is why their QBs are getting hurt.

A lot of this guy's life involves qb injuries.

Maybe their QB's keep getting killed because the RB's rarely block?

This is also a factor. All I can tell is they have an issue with QB protection. It won't matter who they have @QB, the performance goes way down when he's running for his life. The receivers look bad because they don't have enough time to complete their routes and get open.

Curious why you don’t think Miami wants to retain him as QB2?

I assume they will draft over him.
-
Yeah, with Tua's injury history, Teddy's age, and Skylar not setting the world on fire, they absolutely should draft a QB.

Threw a TD pass today. He might start next week too.

Did anyone watch him playing today? I only paid passive attention, but it seemed like every time I looked up his receivers were dropping catchable balls. Saw it probably thrice if not more. They absolutely did not do him any favors today.

He asked. I'm sure I was one of few on here who saw it b/c it was on instead of the chiefs game. I turned the tv on right as I saw bridgewater ridiculously trying to thrust a pass on the sideline with his destroyed hand. Here's the jaded play-by-play from the box score of what preceded that.

Too bad for miami that it was a throw-affecting injury as opposed to long-term brain damage, or they could've rolled bridgewater back out there.

Now, I did not see a second of that game, so you might be 100% correct but watching football for 40 years, my guess was Bridgewater seeing if he could throw a football after hurting his finger had nothing to do with what Thompson did or didn't do. It would be pretty odd for an NFL veteran QB to take the trainers word for it when told he can't play, he's probably going to want to see if his career isn't going to possibly end with two appearances cut short by injury.

Sky’s first year in the NFL:
-Drafted in the 7th round
-impressive preseason, forces Dolphins to carry 3 QB’s on the 53 man roster
-2 starts
-Victory as a starter that puts his team in the playoffs
-
.500 in career starts, that's better than Justin Herbert right?
-
Skyler thompson is way better then tua! I said what i said.

I love Sky, but he's getting cut this off season. Hopefully he lands somewhere else.

I think he's better than most backup quarterbacks. Someone will pick him up.

No way in hell. Teddy’s contract is done and so is Tua’s. He’ll have a Chase Daniel’s type of career.

lol, what? Ain't no way. Do you not realize Teddy Bridgewater was active today? He could have started or came into that game at any point.

Yeah, because his contract is done and is always injured
-
No way in hell. Teddy’s contract is done and so is Tua’s. He’ll have a Chase Daniel’s type of career.
Tua is in year three of a four-year contract with a fifth-year option.
Skylar will certainly have a chance to keep his backup role next preseason. I personally doubt the team drafts over him this year, given that their first pick (out of just five) will likely be in the 50s, and the prospects at that level are unlikely to help you immediately. Anything could happen, though.

They may be forced to draft another quarterback, but it won't be because of, or at the expense of Skylar. His performance today wasn't one that you can assess that he isn't a NFL quarterback. That offense, the line and the skill positions, were decimated. The media and team seem to be happy with how he did, so I'll take that as good. He could have gotten pulled and he didn't, that tells me at least he's third QB material right now.

I concur. He didn't light the world on fire, but he didn't allow the Jets secondary to win the game at his expense. That was always going to be the biggest threat, given the state of the Jets offense.
There is always a chance that Tua retires for his health - this offseason, or after the next concussion, or the next. If it happens in the immediate future, though, the draft will not be the answer - the team has to chase after a Garoppolo-level FA.

At the beginning of the game, one of the announcers said Maimi's coach Michael Lee McDaniel told them he expects Skylar to stay in the game unless he gets hurt. He also mentioned Bridgewater was in practice this week and could play if needed. I don't think Skylar did anything that would justify pulling during the game. OT, did anybody see how many of the rookie QBs from the lower draft rounds started today and won.

McDaniel said the Dolphins are preparing for rookie Skylar Thompson to make his third career start Sunday; veteran Teddy Bridgewater is still working his way back from a dislocated pinkie finger on his throwing hand, and his possible availability is unclear.
The team signed nine-year veteran Mike Glennon to its practice squad last week.

Yeah, that just confirmed everything I said. They elevated Glennon and Teddy was QB3 as an emergency, because he’s broken. Just like Tua and Sky was earlier this year. Dolphins have gotten a lot of crap this year for how they’ve managed their QB room this year with concussions and so on. First year coach threw a jersey on him just in case. Case closed!

Unfortunately sky can't do it all himself :frown:
-
Don't get me wrong, his wideouts are shitting the bed too.
-
Unreal what these clown receivers are doing to our guy Sky!
-
Think we are looking at a Georgia vs TCU situation here folks
Could’ve said the same about Chargers/Jags at this stage of the game.
-
Man rough start for our guy Sky . . .
so far 1 of 7 for 8 yards and a pick, down 14-0
Can't help thinking of the momentum / confidence difference if Waddle hadn't dropped that deep play action on their first drive. . .
-
His 2 1,000 yard receivers have 3 drops between them
-
Romo (bitb) gushing all over our guy is very fun
-
O line is also not helping
-
4 drops now! Trade him, ‘fins!
-
Dolphins look like a team that has lost 5 of their last 6
-
Unreal what these clown receivers are doing to our guy Sky!
It’s horrible. Catch the damn ball.
Btw wackster, can’t congratulate you enough on calling this shot from like 400 miles away. Drink it in. That prediction was an all-timer.

Back to back dimes from my guy.

Dude is cooking!
-
-
A shout out for kicking lsu's ass
-
Sky's looking more confident, let's hope he comes out slinging in the third.
-
That was a great long ball by Sky! I didn’t know he had that in him.
-
skylar looking amazing. blow it up and build around him miami
-
I really wish Miami receivers would at least try to catch the ball
-
Damn
-
What’s the record for most dropped balls in a playoff game?
-
ugly ass game. it's like ksu playing tcu in basketball, but for both teams
-
Sky's looking shaky. The drops killed his confidence and now he's running around panicking and making bad throws. Maybe he'll get back in the 4th.
-
WWJD is a motto he lives by in life, so he’s fine!

Time to become a legend

IT’S HAPPENING!

He's got to stop throwing these worm killers

Coach is rough ridin' this up

What a dime!
-
It’s a shame @michigancat had to put me on ignore. He’s missing message board HOF greatness right now. The bambino aka “wackycat08” called a bambino shot on Sky and is about to grab all time receipts!
-
Dangit
-
There is a lot of honor in a valiant defeat. What an experience for our guy.
-
Damn, he didn't see the play
-
Damn. Sky hits Hill on that pass and Fins win this game imo.
-
Robbed!
-
I still can't believe it took 20 seconds to get a play in on 4th and inches, and the play they came up with was that terrible.
-

The sugar huddle run up the gut on 3rd & 2 was terrible. That’s a PA home run or TE across the formation every time.
-
Miami coach consistently mumped our guy by calling the play in at 15 seconds
-
Tyreek is going to roast our guy in post game :frown:
-
Yeah, give the team 5 seconds to snap a play with motion. That's going to work.
-

He was out of his element.
-
Damn, he didn't see the play
it seemed like he was looking at him. idk. damnit.

Tyreek is going to roast our guy in post game :frown:
Dipshit had two costly drops today. He can eff off!
-
I think he saw it, but pressure from his right didn't allow him to step into that throw.
-

The rush pushed him to his right. It would have been a tough ass pass to throw.
-
I think he saw it, but pressure from his right didn't allow him to step into that throw.
Yea the RT got completely destroyed
-
eff Mike McDaniel, dipshit. That 4th down should have been immediately a sneak call.
-
Even a mediocre performance at qb gets a win there. He was terrible in the second half
-
They blew 3 timeouts because they couldn't get a rough ridin' play called in 20 seconds.
-
I'm glad his dad got to see him play. Sky will always have being the starting QB in a playoff game. He didn't give up.
I hope he gets a spot somewhere next year
-

Best looking 18 for 45 day I've seen from a qb for sure

Bills D has made a lot of QBs look less than mediocre this season. That said, I do think Dolphins with Tua win this game, but that’s just as much an indictment on coaches not utilizing Sky particularly well as it is Sky not performing great.

Yea me too, but even if he doesn’t our guy made about 10 years worth of going pro other than sports salary this year.

He made slightly less than a million and he has to break off his agent. At least he's in Florida, so he's got that going for him.

You don't think someone who played a whole playoff game will fall out of the top 96 quarterbacks in the league without another game being played? He's not a starting quarterback right now, but I think you're judging him on a harsh, I've seen that guy for 6 years curve, if you think he's in danger of falling out of the league.
-
The NFL fell in love with him today!

Teddy’s contract is done. Sky is QB2 moving forward, dork stores! Their receivers had like 10 dropped passes today. I can’t imagine anyone watching that whole game, coming away with Sky being done, unless you tuned in late, which would make sense for some of you clowns!

I think the NFL is a pretty harsh league. If I was running a team I'd take him. Being a backup QB is a tough gig and you only get a limited chance to show off you can get the job done. Unfortunately I think Miami saw him not get it done.
-
As a Chiefs fan, I’d rather play the Jags vs the Dolphins, so this was a win-win! First K-State QB to start a playoff game since 1982!
-
I think sky will likely be in miami next year

Yeah, it’s pretty goddamn obvious!

When is the last time a former KSU qb started an NFL playoff game? Can’t be Lynn Dickey can it?!

Yeah, pay Teddy another 10 mill to be a back up and hurt most of the season vs someone who is 1/10th of the cost and gives the same production will be a really tough offseason decision for the dolphins!

Looks like he made $787k this year, NFL agents are capped at 3% so just under 24k. So let's say Sky made $750k. Median starting salary for a Business major (his degree) is about 55k.
Think it is pretty safe to say even with raises he probably made 10 years of salary this year.

During the game they said he was the 3rd KSU QB to start a playoff game. Dickey and Grogan being the other 2.

Was hoping he’d have his one skyning moment. Hopefully next year

Big red could get at least 10 wins in a season with sky filling in

Trevor Lawrence looked like complete crap last season. Some missed opportunities for sure, but I don't think future coaches are going to put that much stock in the result of the games Sky filled in for. If he's healthy and practices well, he'll stick around in the league. He might not be a Justin Herbert type but could definitely be a Geno Smith or Jimmy G.

He could be a Jimmy G. in terms of being a total hunk

Shane Buechele Made $660,000 dollars this year, sitting on the IR, on a 53 man roster for the Chiefs. Just an FYI for those that think the Sky market closed today!

Dude he was 18-45. 4 sacks, 2 ints, that’s not going to win a playoff game on the road. There were drops, sure, but Skylar had plenty of chances and didn’t make the plays. I think he has a future in the league as a backup and maybe part time starter, but he’s not an nfl starting qb right now.
-

I would rather play the Dolphins. Trevor Lawrence can come into Arrowhead and put up points. Skylar was not going to keep up with the Chiefs.
Not scared of Jags either tho

And then led one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history.

There was a playoff record of 10 drops by their receivers today. I never called him a starter, but between that and the shitty oline, most of the football community was impressed with what he did today on the road, at a heavily favored Bills squad. Other than 2 shitty passes (forces because of drops), not sure what else he was supposed to do today.
-
And then led one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history.
Chiefs aren’t letting that happen. I look forward to his many turnovers next weekend.

Skylar had more starts as a rookie than Mahomes
-
Josh Allen was a starter as a rookie and he had three games his rookie season with a worse QB rating than what Sky had today. Allen had 6 starts as a rookie with a QB rating under 70. The third game of his second season he had a game with 100 yards passing, 3 INTs, 0 TDs, and 4 sacks.
Hell Allen had a game this season, against the same jets that Skylar beat, in which he had 200 yards, 2 INTs, 0 TDs, and 5 sacks.
-
I'm amazed at how bad NFL coaching is even on the playoff level. Thank god for Andy.
-
They blew 3 timeouts because they couldn't get a rough ridin' play called in 20 seconds.
Apparently McBurrito thought they got a first down at the end of the game on the 3rd & 1 and called a first down play hence the confusion and resulting delay of game penalty along with having the wrong personnel on the field.
Just all around piss poor clock management, you can't expect your 7th round rookie QB to control the clock in a playoff game.
Skylar played as well as you could expect for a rookie 7th round QB starting in the playoffs.
I hope he gets that Chase Daniels bag for the next 10+ years.
-
I don't see why he couldn't have a Drew Brees type career.

In fairness, Brock Purdy is all those things and has still looked nails. Given that we saw how both QBs performed just a year ago I think it’s pretty clear that coaching (and a kickass running game and defense) can make a world of difference.
-
How Sky's performed with Miami was fine; considering he is a first-year rookie with a first-year coach. He was good enough to get them in the first round which they have not been able to achieve for several years. He may not have been as impressive as Brock Purdy or Sam Howell, but he got praise for the accuracy of his throws and how well he handled his last two games. Also, his HC was happy with his performance and did not talk about replacing Skylar during his two starting games, even though he had options. I believe he will be an active player next season.

This is the correct take IMO. He's earned the right to hang around the NFL for a bit, and is probably going to have a solid career, but he'll probably not shock the league like Purdy has been. But maybe I'll be wrong
-
if there's anyone that can overcome his shortcomings and figure it out, it's skylar. although his shortcomings don't seem to be physical which is what people usually use this saying for. i dunno. he'll be fine.
-
Purdy has put a spotlight on rookie QB's and their value proposition in terms of cap space. If Skylar can elevate his game to solid backup with a decent QB rating, he'll be able to command a backup QB salary when his rookie contract expires. Someone pointed out that Brock Purdy threw 600 more passes in college ball than Thompson. I think Thompson has a good arm and will gain some ground on Purdy if he's given some time behind center.
