TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball => Topic started by: GregKSU1027 on January 06, 2021, 10:41:38 AM

What's going on fellas and gals? Well things are about to be a lot of fun. I will be updating this throughout the process of the K-State Legends Basketball draft. Obviously strength is in our numbers and goEMAW has dudes who have seen all different era's of basketball. This draft was started by @thekstatefan and he is one of the participants.
So essentially I get a pick 1-8 in this snake draft.
All twitter handles in the draft are as follows.
@thekstatefan
@Justin_Eichman
@1_MattHall
@grantleonard21
@NordyJelson
@SidelinesKstate
@PowercatEng
and us the mighty goEMAW powered team
@GregKSU1027
I still have no idea what pick I get so essentially we need to compile a list of what we think are the Top 64 players in KSU History and draft from them. Thought this would give us something to do that was fun and maybe even we take home the crown. The team's will play eachother in his famous twitter poll brackets. So I came here to ask for everyone's help. Thanks again, this community is awesome and Go Cat's!
-
Just ignore everyone who played before Mike Evans and you will have the best team.
-
@thekstatefan just sent out the draft order.
1. Sidelines KState
2. TheKStateFan
3. Grant Leonard
4. Matt Hall
5. PowercatEng
6. NordyJelson
7. Justin Eichman
8. Greg :excited:
We got the pick I wanted cause we get to pick back to back every round!
-
There's a lot of unknown factors here.
Do you have draft a team position specific, if so can you start 4 guards?
How many players are being drafted?
Is there a preselected pool of players?
Most importantly how is a winner determined?
-
Manny Dies #8 and Pero Vasiljevic #9 - Nobody will talk crap on your team
-

Kstatefan's response is "No, just try to make a team that would make sense. And yes every K-State player is eligible. It's up to you to decide if players from the 50s could compete with players from today."
How many players are being drafted?
8 players per team. 64 total.
Is there a preselected pool of players?
Every Kstate player to ever be on an official roster is eligible
Most importantly how is a winner determined?
By his twitter poll's on @thekstatefan profile in a tournament bracket between the 8 teams.
-
Denis and Angel with picks 8-9.
-
Pick all people who had hands in when K-State basketball was its most fun.
-
Denis would be okay at 8 and if you pick Angel in the top 10, I'm going to slap you in the mouth. The problem with picking Denis is the way winners are picked, if it were a true draft, making him the first point or second guard picked is just fine. However, he is highly underrated by a large segment of our fan base.
I actually hate where you are in the draft. You'll get very good players at 8 & 9, but not picking again until 24 is rough. You're the last person to get a top 3 player and the last to round out your starting 5.
-

This is doo doo advice. First of all Lon Kruger played before Mike Evans and K-State twitter would love that pick, and he's going to be available late rounds. If you weren't just doing this for twitter, Dick Knostman would be the goat pick and you could definitely get him. Homeboy averaged 22 points a game damn near 70 years ago, in 1953. He is still in the top 10 in rebounding. I guarantee you that he has the best tempo adjusted points and rebounds in school history and my man played in a final four.

Sad thing is it is always a popularity contest in these poll contests.

Yeah, that account or another dunno, did something similar over the summer with a top 25 players and after the top 5 I thought it was kind of a crap show.

ok greg so the real question is who follows thekstatefan on twitter and how will they vote in this popularity contest? you have to think 3 moves ahead. Only if its a true random sampling of people that will be voting in this poll should you pick who you objectively think would be the best lineup. if its mostly tucknation then like...keep that in mind. FTR i have no idea who all follows thekstatefan on twitter im just asking the question

I mean K-State twitter is K-State twitter, I feel like there's only like 150-200 or so of us. I know there's significantly more but the amount who are active seems like a really small group of people.

Or #1 overall pick Bob Boozer

For this twitter contest this looks to be the where you should go now
#8 Claws
#9 Rodney McGruder
Mike Evans
Cartier Martin
Denis Clemente
You gotta get whomever the biggest names are who are left, don't get cute, you won't be picking again for a while.

Dean has been on my short list. Had no idea if he would be worth the pick at 8/9 but im gonna go with these two since it truly is a popularity contest.

There are so many better older players. Mr. K-State is still on the board, my guy Dick Knostman is still there, Jack Parr, Norris Coleman, Ed Neeley, just a complete bizarre pick.

Bill walker was just picked at 11, Norris Coleman at 12
Assuming you meant 21 & 22?
Denis this low is the steal of the draft.
Lon Kruger and Ernie Barrett are also steals down here for you.
Swing back and get my guy Dick with your 5th pick then blow people away with his points and rebounding numbers as a big, long before a shot clock.

3.1 Ed Nealy
3.2 Lon Kruger
-
What the hell is NordyJelson doing? I always thought he/she was a young tuck, clearly that account belongs to a boomer. Woof.
-
I kind of brushed this off, but it is v fun to follow.
Could see how multiple guys around be pumped with how their first 2 picks fell.
-
Third round is as follows,
3.1 Ed Nealy
3.2 Lon Kruger
3.3 Jack Parr
3.4 Askia Jones
3.5 Curtis Redding
3.6 Denis Clemente
3.7 Westicles
We have 3.8 and 4.1
Let's make it happen
-
Picked Dick Knostman at 3.8, someone stop me before I pick Marcus Foster at 4.1

Can't believe Tom Alfaro and Mark Dobbins are both still available.

4.2 JO
4.3 Curtis Kelly
4.4 Larry Comely
4.5 Xavier Sneed

4.6 Jeremiah Massey

Draft as of now
-
Ryan Patzwald
-
It makes me sad to think Hoskins never got another year.
I think there's value with him here soon? (not exactly a lights out outside shooter, though)
-
Blake Young?
-
I like Hoskins a lot but seem to consistently rate him higher as compared to the rest of the fanbase. Looking at it online, his final season's numbers aren't that much worse than Westicles's.
-
Alex Potuzak
-
Joe Leonard
-
There needs to be a trade between Grantleonard and nordyjelson of where either their 1/2 or 3/4 are traded for each other. Then whoever has pullen, walker, denis and curt can be done and go do other crap the rest of the day.
-
Jam Sam

Anthony Beane

Tyrone Adams

Draft as of now
I clowned NordyJelson but his 3rd and 4th picks were absolutely the best steals in that draft, their 3rd & 4th picks could have and frankly should have been swapped with the 1 & 2.
-
You need guards bruv.
Anthony Beane
Elliot Hatcher
Tyrone Adams
Shame you didn’t snap Kruger up. Lol at Henson being picked ahead of Kruger.
Nic was correct here, the only squabble I have here is if you're going to dip back to 1982 and not get a star or household name, you might as well get Marcus Foster who has significantly better stats than Tyrone Adams or Kam Stokes who's stats are essentially the same as Adams but people know who he is.

This is all of us looking at his picks
-
Y'all remember when Dom Sutton went like 3 for 3 from 3 in a game and it was amazing. I would bring that up with my argument for him every time.
-
Larry Reid!

He used his 2nd pick to take someone I've never heard of.
-
Larry Reid!
Yes. How could I leave him out of my short list of also-ran guards?
-
At this point I'll probably vote for whoever ends up getting Chris Griffin. Please consider.
-
I'm definitely voting for whoever has Fred McCoy.
-
I'll vote for whoever has Cortez Groves
or Gilson DeJesus for a sharp shooter
-
I was thinking of DeJesus and pulled his numbers. He didn't shoot near enough 3s but the era is probably to blame.
-

Yeah. But Wooly also had the semi-famous "fool's gold" quote about three pointers.

how long til Clent Stewart gets swept up? feels like he would be a solid get.
-

Yeah. But Wooly also had the semi-famous "fool's gold" quote about three pointers.
to be fair wasnt it still pretty much the prevailing thought at the time.

Hatcher is still available

that said, the context is pretty painful
K-State followed up a 10-of-18 performance from behind the arc against Nebraska with a season-high 13 3s on 19 attempts against the Red Raiders.
Despite the Wildcats' torrid outside shooting, Wooldridge said he does not want the perimeter shot to be his team's crutch.
"I think the 3-point shot is fool's gold in a lot of ways. I've always believed that," Wooldridge said. "One night you shoot it well, the next night you don't. You've got to get to the free-throw line and more in the lane. If you can do that, you can play pretty consistent for a long period during the season."
it was after going 13-19 and 10-18 from 3 in back to back games. KSU finished 46th in 3FG% that season and 291st in number of threes attempted (relative to total FGA). So pretty good at shooting but refusing to take them even in the context of the times.
-
Everyone’s sleeping on my man Will Scott and his 51% 3 pt shooting. No one else is even close. Go get him Greg.

He'll still be there in late rounds. He needs to get Will Spradling now.

The spread sheet has been updated. I picked William Scott and Clent Stewart.
-
Beasley, Walker, Denis, Curt, Angel is my team if I have to pick one guy from each round.

Double Double machine David Hall still available.
-
Lance Harris?
-
Can't believe OJ Mayo has fallen this far. Take him next Greg.
-
the gun stuff has clearly slid Agent 0 down everyone's board
-
Was thinking Will Spradling if he falls to me which would be hilarious. And maybe Nino Williams
-
David Hall, absolutely if he hasn't been taken.
D. Cunningham
One year wonders at point guard: Louie Small and LaKeith Humpries (soiled rep involving underage townie, but a baller)
Others
Carl Gerlach, Lou Hitch, Roger Sutner, Larry Williams
-
Is this over? I’m missing the love for the late 90’s in here. Paco May, Cortez Groves, Schwartzandruber (I think I used to take a lot of pride that I could spell his name right, don’t care to anymore), Manny & Shawn?

No to all of this except for maybe Deryl Cunningham, but our buddy Greg was already lousy with bigs. I was kidding with you a couple of weeks ago about being old, but you're really old.

Swartzendruber
So basically the no zone is the time period beginning with the 1996-97 season, Asbury made the tournament in 1996, to the year 2003-2004, the year Wooly signed a top 15 class. Manny Dies was pretty far and away the best player of that era. I believe he averaged something like 12 and 8 for his career. Of course because of Todd Stewart no one thinks of Manny as a serious basketball player, but he was no doubt the best. I'd say Shawn Rhodes and Pervis Pasco were runners up here. The problem is that Asbury and Wooly played so damn slow. Manny's pace adjusted numbers would be much better than his raw counting stats do, but that wasn't a thing in 1998 and no one cares about that in a twitter popularity contest.

eff it, pick willie the wildcat and appeal to kids.
-
Mark Young?
-
Fred Peete, Jeff Wires?
-
Tony Kitt! Averaged nearly a double double in 99-00
-
I can't decide if I hate the Stewart pick. I feel like I do.
-
I can't decide if I hate the Stewart pick. I feel like I do.
Greg is my boy and he knows that, I also made my mark on ksufans defending Clent to the death. Not only should you hate the Clent pick, but Greg should be embarrassed by it, and every guard taken after Clent is also embarrassing. Deathbite is still available and he's unquestionably better, in every way, than every guard on the bottom of that board. Do y'all know there are free websites that have both raw and adjusted data? The media guide, also free.
There have been 55 players taken in that draft, check this crap out.
Kamau is
18th all time in points scored
5th all time in 3 pointers made
3rd all time in total assists
9th all time in assists per game
5th all time in steals
One of only 10 players with 1000 points, 200 assists, and 100 steals
He did all of this despite not being anywhere close to the top 10 in games played.
This is a travesty, he's one of the best 25 players in the history of the program and I want to fight everyone in that draft.
-
I'll bet Kam even gives you a shout out with the pick
-
Is this a Twitter team popularity contest or a Twitter let's see who can have the most obscure wildcats on one team contest?
-
Why on earth is Hopper on there and not Kam? Why is this making me angry?
-
Lance Harris should have been taken no later than the 5th round.
-
I might take BTK’s panel of experts’ top 8 KSU twitter personalities against any of these squads in this contest.
-
_33 is a truth teller and he should have been invited to this draft.
-
Although it's only one football thread and one basketball thread, I love the robust sports discussions, it's invigorating.

Mark Young?
I was trying to remember him earlier. I remember there being a player who was pretty decent during that time but declared early even though there was little to no chance he’d be drafted. I first thought it was Paco but looked it up and he played all 4 years.

David Hall, absolutely if he hasn't been taken.
D. Cunningham
One year wonders at point guard: Louie Small and LaKeith Humpries (soiled rep involving underage townie, but a baller)
Others
Carl Gerlach, Lou Hitch, Roger Sutner, Larry Williams
No to all of this except for maybe Deryl Cunningham, but our buddy Greg was already lousy with bigs. I was kidding with you a couple of weeks ago about being old, but you're really old.
Is this over? I’m missing the love for the late 90’s in here. Paco May, Cortez Groves, Schwartzandruber (I think I used to take a lot of pride that I could spell his name right, don’t care to anymore), Manny & Shawn?
I know this time period sucked, but this was my JH/HS years so I had to talk them up a little😂

what's fun to remember about asbury's pace of play is that he really talked up his run-and-gun style from pepperdine that he was bringing to ksu cats. of course, every coach said that during that time period.
problem is asbury just wanted to do everything/one but coach when he finally made it to a big school. pushed it all down to his assistants (campbell coached bigs, can't remember his other assistants, fox was a grad assistant).

_33 is a truth teller and he should have been invited to this draft.
I fell into it. They just dm’ed me. I’ll let you know when the next one is. Imma be honest. I’m pretty new to KSU basketball history pre 2000. I did research and wanted to try to pick a guy from every era. I had no idea Clent had the freshman assist record and i thought that was cool so i picked him.
-
Imma be honest with you guys though i have learned alot about school history. This was really fun and ill update the rest of the draft spread sheet when i get home.

That's dookie and heavily weighs the thing to role players on really good teams instead of great players on bad teams like Cartier Martin.

Ben Mitchell is my IRL bud. Imagine my surprise when I learned that he was a high school all-american who played ball for our cats. He continues, to this day, to be a stud. He's currently the principal at Wichita Southeast High School.

totally forgot we used to have a guy on our team named Carlbe

Remember, we also had a guy that eventually went by Kanbeei Karlson (https://goEMAW.com/forum/index.php?topic=14057.0) but has since dropped that. Now he's just the Rapping Realtor (https://soundcloud.com/therappingrealtor/).

Three followers. Go ask our actual famous LA area realtor if he's crossed paths with the rapping realtor.

We have two former K-State athletes as realtors in Los Angeles, one of them is apparently a 6'10" rapper and the other one is a former NFL player who's a model and reality television star. So weird.

Why did homeboy list Clent first on your squad? I feel like he intentionally did you dirty.

Greg bought bitcoin at $50 so he will be ok guys

Seriously, why wouldn't have you list like a starting 5 or something? I understand you drafted more, but the listing seems messed up.
