and I thought we had a crap show going on.. Down two captains that are opting out, ehlinger throwin' shade to his coach.. do we have a slight ray of hope?

If the answer to that question is no...if he won't back down...then tomorrow's game will probably be a heartbreaker for the fans of the purples. I guess we'll just have to wait to see what happens...and that's the hardest part.

Everyone is bowl eligible this year and the plan going into today was to play in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl (Arizona) with a win and possibly the Armed Forces Bowl or whatever they are calling the bowl in Ft. Worth with a loss.

what has happened? the LBs have struggled all year which explains the terrible run defense but the pass defense was solid most of the year. i think other teams figured out how to attack our LBs in passing situations. they offset our pass rush with quick passes and our LBs are very slow in open space.

it appears they are trying to get Howard some experience instead of trying to win the game. 3rd and 3 with Howard as your QB should be 2 straight runs for a first down. why would you let him drop back with a true freshman LT blocking a NFL draft pick?

you had it nailed until the last sentence, those huge runs aren't on the dline, you can blame the LBs for that too. The undoing seemed to be when the Baylor coaches figured out that they shouldn't do anything more than three step drop backs. If the pass rushers are the only thing worth respecting then just eliminate them from the equation.
The secondary has been demolished by COVID, injuries, and transfers. No Eko Island today.

Uh, he wasn't nor will he ever be as quick as Sproles. Don't get me wrong, he's as close as you can probably get but Sproles had elite quickness we didn't get to see on display as much because studs such as Scobey, Cartwright, and even Roberson all going to run the ball before true freshman, Sproles.

I love Darren Sproles more than any athlete that has walked this planet. If he was as electric as Deuce as a freshman, he wouldn't have gotten the same number of carries as Danny Morris. Darren got quicker, faster, and stronger every year he was here, that's an incredible complement and testament to his work ethic.

My guess is that they anticipate a lot of teams just shutting down. They are also seeking bowls outside of the Big 12 partnerships. I know that three bowls have decided not to go since they've been lobbying to get in one, that can't help.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare Deuce to Sproles. Sproles did stuff I don’t think I’ll ever see in person again. I know I shouldn’t try to project a true freshman to what Sproles was as a junior, but today I can’t help it. Deuce is starting to play faster than he did 2 months ago. He has the potential to be just as productive as Darren was.
I think Darren will always be #1 in my mind because nostalgia, but I’m starting to shift from hoping Deuce can become to 1B to thinking he has a better than 50/50 shot at becoming 1B.

He has more interceptions than touchdowns. Throw in total turnovers that he's caused and it starts looking real bad

I don't think his ratio for a true freshman qb on a middle-of-the pack team is that bad.

I think he means that it's impressive that with his limitations he led the offense to 31 points in 3 quarters.
I think this is definitely a better way to phrase it. I was just honestly curious how Klieman was going to handle his tournover issues and if he was going to get Ast some more playing time. If you're going to go with him he should definitely continue to throw the ball.

But the absolute collapse of the defense is worse than all that.
We’ve seen untalented defense get beat because they can’t make a play. This has been completely different. Absolutely quit/gave up.

How does someone asses when someone else quits? Why can't it be that they're just shitty? Does the quitting stop and start? Like did they quit against Iowa State, then unquit in the first half against Baylor, only to quit again in the second half while they were leading?

I think they're missing three starters. The larger issue is what the two deep looks like now as opposed to what it did this summer, then again after the KU game. They lost 3 d lineman and 4 out of the secondary to the portal alone. The injuries and COVID stuff is a lot harder to track, but Joel Klatt mentioned how many players we've had who have missed 2-3 weeks with COVID. I think the initial lack of depth also is relevant when you're having a 5th year linebacker starting his senior day at safety.

It’s basically the same defense but Patton appears to have been our best linebacker by far last year. Losing Hazelton really hurt. No doubt our talent is crap but we aren’t exactly stacking our recruiting classes with instant impact studs. The staff not being able to properly manage Will Jones and Tyrone Lewis really sucks.

goolsby was a pretty significant loss IMO. As a whole, so were Reggie Walker and Mittie and Dishon. The DL we have are pretty good players, but I think against Baylor especially you really saw how they needed to be rotating more.

Goolsby was terrible and we played Jonathan Durham significant snaps all last year. Khalid Duke is every bit as good as Reggie Walker and Wiley and Pickle are as good as Mittie and Dishon were. Klandermen isn’t getting fired so we will get to see if he can adjust in year 2 but year one was a dumpster fire.

the first half of the year was outstanding. OSU was a very nice performance. 10 out of the last 12 quarters were a dumpster fire, to be sure, but overall it wasn't a disaster.

If your question was rhetorical, I wish you would have said so. I said we have 7 missing from the 2 deep, off the rip, without even accounting for injuries and COVID, but you ignored that and said it's basically the same defense. If you're sure that losing Hazelton hurt, can you explain to me the differences in schemes from this year to last as they relate to available personnel? I'm not nearly savvy enough about football to recognize that.

i watched wayne jones today and he was absolutely terrible all day. no wonder he lost his job. it helps explain how Elder could get playing time. the safety position might be the worst collection of talent of any position group since the 1980s.
