Did you see the start where they showed K-State with our beautiful hill with "Manhattan" and then they showed Iowa State with a Winnebago?!
-
Our right side DB just destroyed on that block
-
Poorly timed jump
-
Will Howard time!
-
seems like we might get our asses destroyed today.
-
Their stadium is ugly

Poorly timed jump
Push off.

why the eff did he cut back?
-
LOL, Howard. Welp, I'm out.
-
Howard cannot read the defense. Poor calls both times
-
I'm glad we went for it though
-
We wheeled out a truck of hot garbage this first quarter.
-
Howard is a true freshman surrounded by average athleticism. He can only do so much.
-
I don't disagree, except they just drive the entire field and scored a touchdown. We're going to lose to Iowa State.
-
Welp
Time to start looking for a new coach.
-
More brilliant aggressive play by our #19
-
This is a disaster. Getting destroyed by Iowa State is an immediate fire alarm.
-
Fake season
-
Yea but like isn’t half our defense out with COVID? Pretty sure we had barely enough to play this game. Plus I don’t think we practiced all week.
-
Losing to people this ugly is a fireable offense.
-
Are we going to get blown out?
Defense looks worse than our offense.
-
Are we going to get blown out?
Defense looks worse than our offense.
Yes we are going to get blown out.
-
Pretty much everything about our team is woof.
-
Pretty much everything about our team is woof.
DL is pretty good!
-
They can score as many points as they want today.
-
Time to start looking for a new coach.
come home, sean.
-
I'm very concerned about our LBs next year.....
-
Matt Campbell is an idiot so that gives us a chance.
-
This playcalling is dogshit and I'm sick of Howard trying to get Vaughn killed.
-
I know we all know this, but JC this offense is hot garbage.
-
I know we all know this, but JC this offense is hot garbage.
We just seem to be getting worse every week which is extremely frustrating.
-
I think we can conclude the Klieman experiment just isn’t working
-
Enjoy this day, Havs. You’ve earned it.
-
This is the lowest this program has been in a very long time.
-
This game should have been postponed. Playing depleted kills any chances of success.
-

Yep. Whole season should have been cancelled, really
-
I’d like to see Keyon Mozee and Jacardia Wright get some love.
It feels like deuce hasn’t been effective in a few weeks.
-
The OU game was legit, but the rest of the season is very sus.
-
I mean transfers and true fresh QB and RB make it difficult as well, but having half the scholarship players out with COVID is a recipe for disaster.
-
Howard's passes aren't even close.

Who else is out besides the 2 starting linebackers and Malik due to covid?

Lots of young players. Practice was basically impossible

Well he's the only real threat on our offense so pretty easy to scheme against one guy.
That aside, he got over hyped. All this Sproles talk wasn't fair. Sproles was a generational player who carved out a new position in the NFL.

Teams are so damn mean to Elder.

Yeah, I feel bad for him every time they throw at him or make him make an open field tackle :(

new drinking game. drink every time ross elder is either run over by a RB or a second late defending a pass. you'd be mumped up in the first quarter of every game. really concerned about the defense next year. we have absolutely NOTHING at certain positions

I’m not in tune with the roster but apparently we couldn’t practice all week. That plays major mental eff games. I mean ISU is not a great team and they look like BAMA against us. There were people surprised the team got on the buses on Friday.
-
is it possible to lose so badly that previous wins are vacated?
-
This playcalling is dogshit and I'm sick of Howard trying to get Vaughn killed.
howard is not ready to be a QB. its our coaches fault he is needed as a true frosh. he is incapable of seeing the field and acting on it
-
This season has featured two of the worst losses in KSU history.
Time to just drop football. Its a pretty disgusting sport anyway.
-
Put Ast in, Jesus
nah we need adam helm
-
Kleiman is all about playing whether we have all walkons or full roster. I’m not sure why but maybe he is one of those diversity breeds success guys.
-
They just don't care. (ftp://:facepalm:)
-
is it possible to lose so badly that previous wins are vacated?
This game will erase the last three decades of KSU football.
-
need some better coaching on 3rd and longs. we have to be the most pathetic defense in america on 3rd down. Our LBs just give up 10 yards of room to RBs out of the backfield. need a complete overhaul at LB
-
Was Howard crying on the sidelines? Dude has been mentally broken. He ain't coming back
-
I hope they hang 100, we deserve it.
-
Kleiman is all about playing whether we have all walkons or full roster. I’m not sure why but maybe he is one of those diversity breeds success guys.
i agree but we weren't going to win with Howard as QB anyway. the absence of defensive starters made the score worse but didn't change the winner. Howard is true frosh but is also terrible

If they thought Howard was the answer they wouldn’t have gone after Rubely. Obviously Howard is a career backup.
-

Ever?
-
There is no God.
-
I just did a double shot of Bullet Rye and am now chowing down on leftover wedding cake.
This game is disgusting.
Klieman is lucky this season is a complete throwaway to begin with because losing like this to Iowa rough ridin' State is a fireable offense.
-
its just 1 game and we have owned ISU for a long time but man the difference in athletes between the 2 teams looks gigantic right now. Klieman is farther away from being successful not getting closer. I know ISU recruits pretty good but not great. Our recruiting has been consistently one of the worst in the country and every now and then it shows
-
Klieman has a million extra dollars in his pocket because KU is one-in-a-lifetime bad. Prince wasn't so lucky.

Yes and no. This season could have played out very differently had Covid not entered the picture. If we get our OOC schedule like normal, we're already bowl eligible. Take away the freak hit that took Skylar out for the season, and we're at looking at a legitimate 8-4 regular season.
-
Thankful our defense is stout or this could be ugly.
-

Pretty competitive third quarter
-
this just in: Fletcher is terrible too
Gawd we are so thin KU doesn't even have to play walk on types anymore. we only beat them because their coaches are idiots.
-

Eh, Iowa State is going through the motions. They could easily score a TD every drive.

That play by Tressel is the worst play I’ve ever seen by a DE. That’s not hyperbole. He took 3 side steps inside, then the QB ran for a touchdown right where he lined up. No one touched Tressel the whole play and he didn’t come with 4 feet of the QB.

09/05 – Buffalo W
09/12 – North Dakota W
09/19 – Vanderbilt W
09/26 – at West Virginia L
10/03 – Texas L
10/10 – Kansas W
10/17 – at TCU W
10/29 – at Iowa State L
11/07 – Texas Tech W
11/14 – at Oklahoma W
11/21 – Oklahoma State L
11/28 – at Baylor W
And that's melding our current results. 8-4 is easily in the picture. Next year will tell us how good of a coach Klieman really is. I just have to keep telling myself that this year is total crap.

Even our punter sucks.

Losing Thompson was and is a big deal and a big part of the suckiness we see now, I need to let that temper my disgust at least a little.
But it's obvious Rubley needs to be the real deal.

I think he will, but ultimately we have nothing behind Thompson on the current roster. If Rubley isn't a stud, we have shitty times ahead.

offensive line, just offer every big huge dude you can get
snyder’s success came from it and so did kliemans at ndsu

Howard will be much better next season - a full backup year would do him some good.
-
149 yards on 47 plays (3.1 ypp).
In this day and age, that's just so unbelievably poor (regardless of the circumstances).
-
Calling my shot......if Rubley isnt the real deal then coach K is fired at end of 22 season

100% no chance unless there's scandal. We'd have to damn near go winless in 21' & '22 for that to even be a possibly.
-
Only way Klieman gets fired is if Gene does too

The recruits they do land have lol'able offer lists. They are copying the snyder strategy of not chasing anyone that good schools want.

lol, you okay? eff, maybe I don't hate Iowa State as much as I thought I did.

So you watched that game at WVU and thought out recruiting was on par with our opponents?

Complaining about our on field talent is pretty silly.

For additional perspective, even if that was just for a half and you doubled it for a total of just under 300 yards for a game, that average would rank 120th out of 126 D1 teams.
It goes without saying where 147 yards would rank...
A historically poor offensive performance that is so unbelievably bad that it makes the defense giving up 40+ points look pretty good by comparison.
-
which offensive players were out due to covid?

So you watched that game at WVU and thought out recruiting was on par with our opponents?
I think our recruiting needs to improve for sure, that's a hell of a lot different than
The recruits they do land have lol'able offer lists
That's ridiculous

I'm not sold on this. If we have another bad season next year, even though this year is a bit of a throwaway season, the fans will start to turn on him. Getting shut out by Iowa Freaking State is well below the acceptable standards of our program. It just doesn't happen.
If we lose on out this season then Klieman will be 0-8 against WVU, OSU, Baylor, and Texas. He will have gone 8-0 against TCU, Tech, KU and somehow OU. ISU is the only split.
That's not setting the world on fire and unless we get some talent in across the board, those numbers likely won't hold. Back to back years without bowl appearances will turn up the heat pretty quick.

You said it's a throwaway season then gave the season weight in your analysis. Yeah, fans will start to turn on him if he has another bad year next year, but what does that even mean, some have already turned on him? In your scenario, he'll do a job reset in the AAC or MWC before he gets fired.

In most people's minds, I think this season still 'counts' to some degree. It will surely count if Kleiman loses out this year and then can't break .500 in 2021 or 2022. Next year looks very scary if Thompson and some of our seniors do not elect to return. We got a preview of what next year looks like against ISU. People say Hughes and Sullivan are subpar LBs, but without them, our defense looked awful yesterday. Yea, we're playing scout team folks in the secondary, but I'm concerned about who comes back after this never-ending rollercoaster of injuries and transfers. Simply put, we have no QB, no WRs, no DTs, no LBs, and a big question mark in the secondary next year if we don't have some folks return.
Kleiman has really rolled the dice on Rubley being the savior of this program. If he isn't an all-conference type of guy in 2022, this ship is going down.
-
This season counts. You can't claim the OU win and not the Ark state loss
-
This season has no bearing on the trajectory of our program. If Klieman doesn’t have his crap together for the 2022 season then he will be on a hot seat. Most on here don’t really follow recruiting so I get the ignorance but we are getting solid players to fill these classes. We may snag 6 or 7 P5 level players out of Kansas alone for the 2022 class the way things are trending.

how will he have his crap together next year? he will have the worst QB in the league. The worst WR corp in the league. No depth behind Vaughn at RB. An OL with no legit tackles. All the best players on D will have graduated with little if any talent behind them.
next year looks significantly worse than this year

Losing just one OL from the two deep is a reason for optimism (as bad as they have been)

I don’t agree with much of what you said but also I said 2022 not 2021. Willis and Mitchum are legit tackles and I expect one or both of them to start next year. It frees up Beebe to be 100% interior and Talor Warner and Poitier along with Rivas and Delforge will be a great group along the interior. I think Duffie will still have to play on the edge one more year. Ervin showed a lot of promise last year and Vaughn and Mozee will be solid too. They really like the young TE’s and depending on if Wheeler can ever not be injured he is good too. WR I think Garber will break out next year like EBD did this year, he just needs on more spring to get it all out together. A lot riding on Rubley being worth a crap because I don’t have a great answer at QB.
-
I still wouldn't be surprised if Sky returns for a year but Rubley needs to be a stud longterm. I'm not surprised that Howard sucks as he's a true freshman, but I am concerned that he hasn't improved. I also haven't seen any flashes of a high upside from Howard.
-
I’m pinning my hopes on Rubley, no negative consequences.
-
The Mole knows how to recruit, and keep talent.

Based on what? NDSU is a different game than a P5 school. Again, my jury is still out, but there's cause for concern with the way this season has imploded.

Try the 2021 season. If next season looks a lot like the second half of this season, especially last Saturday where we weren't even competitive, then Gene is going to be feeling a lot of pressure to not allow him a 4th season.
-
He just gave him an extension, surely you aren’t being serious.
-
I do wonder (if Skylar doesn't return) if they look at the transfer portal for a senior QB.

Why would they need to do that? May as well cut Lewis and Howard if you're going to do that.

How is everyone feeling about Farmageddon 2023? I think if the Cats can put up 17 point they will win. I don't have any other HFBIQ thoughts to offer.
They're def a salty team, but we also kick major ass at home, I think we win by 14+

ugly 34-17 win

how bad exactly is the weather going to suck my ass?
Projected high lower 40s, slight chance of rain/snow, partly cloudy. Nice day for hunting, I suppose, if you're into that.

I feel like the weather is going to suck and I want to sell my tickets am glad I didn't buy tickets and will be watching from my couch.

Fine, just don't say 20 years from now when Howard retires from a HOF NFL careeer that you were in the BSFS stands when he threw for five tds to set single-season and game marks in a cakewalk of the Clones.
-
It just doesn't seem to have the juice this year. Hope we aren't flat from the sunflower showdown
-
well I am going and so are some of my bros and their kids and my kids also so most of you can just suck it ok? :lynchmob:
-
2pt win by whatever lol means they provide at the very end to lose it
-
2pt win by whatever lol means they provide at the very end to lose it
iowa state ties it up and is kicking the PAT for the win, only to be blocked and returned for two
or
game is tied and isu lines up for a game winning field goal but the snap is too high. there is a gaggle of players trying to secure the ball but it keeps getting closer to the opposite endzone. the kicker panics and in an attempt to prevent a wildcat touchdown, he kicks the ball through the endzone
-
I think we are just going to whip their ass from start to finish this time honestly
-
I think we are just going to whip their ass from start to finish this time honestly
I think it builds to that point, it'll be close-ish (like 17-10, well within reach) through the middle of the second quarter, then we get a big play to take it into half 24-10. Then we come out and put it enough away that by the 4th it's as ass whipping.
-
Snow game?!
-
We're tied at half but should be up by 10-14, then we win by 17. Let's call it 13-30.

We better get that TD back or else it'll be a long day

Hey they can tackle on a simple draw play

Hopefully they will have to run more than 1 play from scrimmage this time!

Going to be a million fumbles tonight

I'm not a big fan of let's pitch it in the driving snow.

Not having any idea where the first down marker is makes watching this game a lot more interesting

Their unis are camo with the field. We shoulda worn the snowman kits

Right, an short side option at that. Down the middle or a quick flat would've been best

definitley, it's weird having no idea where they are on the field

Yeah this is one game where I would like to just run the crap out of Avery (although Will threw it pretty well for most of that last drive)

wtf

How the eff do you not tackle him in the backfield
-
Guys we kind of suck at tackling

That's how this game is going to go, they do barely nothing, big play, we do everything, no TD

It's meaningless because the weather is too weird to really glean anything about the quality of coaching or talent. Like no one gameplans or builds a roster for playing in 6 inches of snow

It's like our offense is normal (but really solid) and theirs is my big brother against me in Madden the 1st time I touched a video game controller. WTAF.

Sadly this will be his legacy. That and the Big 12 title. But a lot of this.

We need more dynamic skill players on offense (tho it's absurd to point to the offense in this loss).
My bro is insisting our D had money on the outcome. Probably took the over, too.

But this was certainly not Will's fault. The defense is 100% to blame. They were the worst I've seen in a very long time.

I think Rusty is right, this game really was an anomaly with the snow. It was a black swan event.
-
Has there ever been a season with all of our losses being as maddening/befuddling as this one?
-
The only things I think you can take away from this game is a lack of discipline on D and Howard struggling to go through progressions.
If there wasn’t a foot of snow on the field, ISU wouldn’t have been able to manage 42 points despite having only like 5 plays in KSU territory.

This game summed up Will Howard outside of 2022 which was some ridiculous anomaly which we will still all respect him for.....
-
I think he was just frustrated with himself. Likely his last game at the Bill and he missed some big throws.
-
In a way it was the perfect ending to this dumb season.
-
14 yards per play for one of the worst offenses in the Big 12.
They had 10 first downs in this game - 6 of which were on TDs. We scored 35 points and lost to a team that had 4 non TD first downs. I'd be shocked if that's ever happened in NCAA history.

True. Totally understandable.

I'm just loving life and will love the cats no matter what happens tonight
True fan...

A very kstatey loss. Our head coach wore a face mask for some reason but the took it off later and we continually wouldn’t tackle as if we were absolutely gambling on iowa state. Every thing kstate does when it loses under hammy is so weird. It’s literally a “wtf are we even doing”
But when we win they are so good.
Reality is, Kleiman and his staff of non-recruiting weirdos are here forever so love them. I guess. Or don’t. They are super mediocre so there is no right answer.
-

True. Totally understandable.
I also think some of his passes were missed due to receivers being out of position. Of course, some the loss of position at times was caused by uncalled PIs, which I could see why Howard was frustrated.
-
rarely see a qb lose his crap like that. he's a very good quarterback and hard to complain about a top 15 scoring offense or whatever it is. but he's probably very emotional, which could explain the inconsistencies he's had. and not very cool in the clutch as he couldn't make stuff happen in the 4 losses (although did come through against ku).
-
HE looked pretty good in the second half of the Texass game. I think some of the blame and credit goes to CK.
-
Mods some real people, not pussies like Michigancat have to deal with this. But pussies like him talk about how they can park like a bitch not do anything like a real person
I don't even think he's really from michgan.
That bitch is not from there. He's 10 ply soft thinking he understands but he's removed from it all. Then he'll be all sorry bruh and showoff how he park within 5" of a car and this blog will go wild even though any simple Kansas bruh can do that

Did you see where Iowa State had like 4 tds of 70+ yards in their previous 50 games? Like just unreal weirdness - we've also seen enough from our D this year to know it was completely bonkers and you just go "welp that was weird" and move on.
And also wonder why we couldn't get that snow off the field
-
Got to be one of these on campus? Maybe the timing of the snow prevented cleaning pregame.

Those conditions where abhorrent every unit handled it well other than our defense, worst tackling I've seen in some time. The secondary seemed oddly tentative to make tackles, weird given it was a strength all year long.
Sorry if this game hurt your feelings. It was a fun game, what sports and rivalries are all about, I'm glad I went and sat through the whole thing, not glad I drove through the shitty weather though, thought I was gonna die. Also gonna suck too have to hear Iowa State fans talk about this for the next year. That's the trade-off for being a sports fan.
-
Not sure I personally know any ISU fans, but if I had any try to trash talk me I would just congratulate them on one of their most successful seasons under Campbell.
-

That sounds plausible. Our defense was out of position on their big plays, and they had a lot of big plays. Have never even heard of 4 rushing TD's of 70+ yards in a game, much less being accompanied by two long passing TD's. Something was way wrong with that game, I just attributed it to messy defensive play-calling and use of lower string DB's. Maybe you're right.

It's not plausible and we weren't out of position. We make defense audibles from the formation, they weren't changing our changes.
On the game winning play, we had 5 defenders on two offensive players along with the sideline as a 6th defender. The Iowa State wide receiver blocked two defenders, Noel beat the other three and stayed in bounds. We had multiple plays where we needed a defender to make a one-on-one play and we didn't do it.

These ono-on-one plays were in the secondary. Defenses are set up to prevent the necessity of one-on-one plays in the secondary. Yeah, the guy that got the last touchdown was not in a one-on-one situation, he did make a hell of a play. I get your point that Iowa State made plays, but it's baffling that they had so many big plays of 50+ yards going for touchdowns (wasn't all their touchdowns on 50+ yard plays, or close to it?). I've never seen that in ANY game, much less a K-State game where the Cats couldn't put a stop to big plays. Something was goofy. You're welcome to claim that Iowa State just played that exceptionally well, I just think there's more to it than that.

Nope. The two Noel TD catches, yeah, he's a receiver. On all three Sama runs there was a missed tackle in the backfield. The first one we walked up Kobe Savage in run support, he was one on one with Sama right on the line and he whiffed. There was no safety back so once he didn't even slow Sama down, he was gone. The second long run Sama broke two tackles in the backfield from both Mott and Romaine. The third touchdown he was one on one with #myguy Austin Moore.

I kept thinking about that game where we didn't bring the longer cleats with us. Which game was that?
Their defense had the same issues, it's why neither team had anything close to resembling a pass rush. The difference was two things. 1. Noel was fast enough to get away from our receivers. Our receivers are prone to getting slowed down by jersey pulls because we're to small and not fast enough. 2. They are much better tacklers than we are. It's why we constantly had long drives, they really couldn't stop us but they were great at not letting 4 yard gains become 70 yard touchdowns. There wasn't a shoe in the world that was going to help any defense in those conditions. That snow was crazy deep but there was also ice on the turf under the snow.
-
I kept thinking about that game where we didn't bring the longer cleats with us. Which game was that?
That was KU at ... Iowa State. Forgot to bring our snow cleats.
-
it was the snow. i don't know exactly what about the snow mumped us up so much, but i'm confident (for no good reason) that the game is completely different without snow. which is stupid and not a valid excuse. what a hilarious game.
-
I kept thinking about that game where we didn't bring the longer cleats with us. Which game was that?
Something during the Ron Prince Love Sweepstakes years. Thinking maybe the Texas bowl vs Syracuse, but that was in NRG. Maybe Rutgers in the Pinstripe, or at Louisville.

I think you have good reason to think it would have been completely different when you consider going into that game we had given up a total of 4 70+ yard plays since 2020. Giving up 4 in a game plus a 60 yarder is rough ridin' wild
-
I think it was the worst single game, play for play performance in the history of K-State from a PPP/YPP perspective. ~1.2 PPP and ~14 YPP is unreal.
Usually, you never seen those kinds of numbers for an entire game because if a team is hitting those numbers at any point, then there's usually garbage time and pulled starters involved that will bring the numbers back to earth. But that continuing over the course of the entire game (because, in part, our offense kept up and we won the turnover battle) is astonishing. That we only lost by one score while giving up 1.2 ppp is insane -- that may be the first time in FBS history that's happened.
I wonder when was the last time any team gave up 1.2 ppp and 14 ypp.

What was up with the play where it looked like our defender was playing two hand touch with Sama and then fell to the turf after incorrectly calculating that he could knock Sama down with just a firm shove? Some sort of weird equal and opposite reaction thing going on. Just a very, very weird game for the defense. Also, the offense would run crappy plays on first and second down and then we would miraculously convert 3rd/4th down and long. Seems like it happened a lot. One of the weirdest Cat football games I've ever watched. Up there with 2010 aTm in terms of weird, unexpected things happening.

Whoops, I was actually referencing the 2009 game where we got blown out by TTU, then we blew out aTm, then aTm smoked TTU. 2011 was crazy but not totally unexpected based on earlier results from the season.

In my opinion, every outdoor football playing surface (regardless of turf vs grass) should have an in-ground heating system.

I’m comfortable calling it the most baffling statistical game in Cats history. It makes me glad the Big 12 title game was already determined. Otherwise it really would have stung.

That was Will Lee who I think has to be hurt because he was also the one that tried to one had pick up the ballard fumble rather than just falling on it.
Didn't think much about it at the time but those two plays were very strange like he was absolutely alergic to any kind of physical contact

That play on Saturday was abhorrent and he knew it right away, he was distraught, and benched for the rest of the game, for what it's worth. He was never in position to fall on that Ballard fumble. The ball bounced under his feet, while he was moving then it was almost immediately batted away. Not getting that fumble was just really bad luck, it wasn't anyone's fault.

I wasn’t paying that close of attention, but the only plays I can recall on our side of the field were because they turned us over there—and I don’t think that drive even resulted in points!

on the defensive side, i think it was. i don't think k-state's ever had a game where they gave up so many touchdowns as often as we did. Every 6th play for ISU was a touchdown. And it's not even like we gave them short fields!
i think for whatever reason, the snow really messed with us and we gave up a few shots early and then we started getting in our heads and things snowballed.
but yeah, i don't think we've ever had a performance over the course of the entire game where the defense played as bad as it did on saturday. again, mostly because in the really really dark ages they'd pull the starters when things got out of hand, but still.

Yeah defensively, it was clearly horrendous, although their offensive play success rate was actually poor for the game, but he didn't say we played a horrible defensive game, he said " and consensus is that it probably was one of the worst games ever played" which is clearly silly.

Yep. Offense did just fine. Not perfect, but given the conditions (and how much we threw), pretty darn good.
Success rate is kind of a dumb stat in a vacuum, imo. This game is kind of the perfect example of why.
