Title: Fashion Advice For Old People (25 yo+). Stunz input requested!
Post by: steve dave on November 06, 2020, 06:56:47 AM
This is a safe thread for Moms and Dads and anyone else who just wants to wear clothes for zoom meetings and regular stuff. I'm a man who is literally 40. Need clothing advice and I'm bringing that advice request here.

It's quarter zip season and I need more quarter zips to wear over regular work shirts. I have one Vinyard Vines one I really like but I don't want to be the dad with a whale on more than a couple articles of clothing. Also it was like $175 which is woof city. What is a good quarter zip for my needs?

Alright, for the last decade I have committed quite successfully to cargo shorts abstinence, and my life has improved.

My question is can I wear cargo joggers. I've got joggers on the mind and all the sexiest ones are cargo...

Can I wear?

Columbia, Nike, and Cutter & Buck are the majority of my personal quarter zips. My favorite full zip fleece is Columbia. I also sport a puffy vest from Charles River. I have a several Charles River items with our company logo on them - winter coat, puffy vest, and two quarter zip fleece.

Sitting in shorts with my full zip fleece today in WFH mode.

no, I either wear suits or jeans when I'm actually in the office. there is no business casual for me.

SD something to consider including in your quarter zip rotation...a really sporty one. like super thin stretchy material that hugs the body. They will be like "d*ng did SD just knock out a 5k jog before this meeting? Or perhaps he's going to go do that right after we hang up? man what an active lifestyle he leads!" but the key is only every once in a while, if you abuse the sporty QZ then everyone will think oh those are just pajamas for you

NOTE: this is not the same as those golf-y looking QZs, that's a completely different energy. Those are fine too but unless you are on a call with a bunch of bros who love hittin the links then you might come off as a bit snooty. You live in omaha not myrtle beach south carolina for cryin out loud

Also I got that lavender quarter zip with EMAW and old Willie on it, but that seems to be gone from the K-State Superstore or whatever.

Yeah I felt like that wasn’t one I’d want to wear actually in MHK because 2500 other people would be, but it is great quality. Light /comfortable/ fits right

Imagine dressing up for work again next year. Gonna be freaky. Rn when I go in the office I'm about the only one there so it's jeans.

I rock the sweater over the button up all the time. I was too lazy to do it before I met her. It's definitely commitment, because there's a lot going on, but damn, I look so good doing it. Also, my fitted suits! She has me looking like James Bond at times. I don't know how I even existed before. I was wearing a hollister belly shirt the day I met her.

banana stuff seems kinda crappy quality in my experience. I have a lot of it and even more GAP stuff but their jeans fade immediately and the stuff kinda falls apart quick. I like J. Crew stuff more but who knows if it will still be the same quality coming out of Chap 11.

back when I wore khakis more I'd always buy the Gap Modern Khakis. they come in the flavor I crave in khakis: plain.

Banana stuff fits me perfect and I find their shirts and pants to last.  I don't buy their jeans.  Only designer jeans for this fine piece of ass.

I have 3 Magellan QZs. Magellan is a low-level Academy brand, but these QZs are like 4 times nicer than any other Magellan item. Unfortunately, they don’t make them any more. I need to take some recommendations from this thread. Problem is I’m clumsy, cheap and run a relatively dirty place with big machines that use lots of cutting fluids/oils plus a large dirt yard, so I’m too afraid I’ll ruin something nice.

I still have my LL Bean boots i got in college like 10 years ago. And I've worn the crap out of them. Those things are incredibly durable.

FWIW i don't like wearing quarter zips or sweaters over button downs.

Same. Too cumbersome.

Pro tip for the button down under a QZ. Get the new summer stretchy fabric shirts to put underneath. Trying to shove a traditional button down under there is an unwinnable situation.

What about denim jackets. Both of mine are Levi’s (because that’s what brand a denim jacket should be). One is dark with no lining and traditional brass buttons. The other is lighter denim and lined with wool and has a sick wool (prob) fake collar. I think I got them like 3 years ago.

Today I wore the lighter one with a white v-neck underneath with gray joggers and checkered vans. I also like to pair the look with my LHC Bill Snyder white and black Cortez.

Is that cool? Is that stylish?

I know it’s damn comfortable.

where should I get jeans? I normally wear 7, or AG. I need a new pair and buying jeans is one of my least favorite things to do. I have to try on 17 pairs of the same size because they all fit different which doesn't make any sense. Anyway, what is the best place to order 17 pairs of jeans to try on and send back since I'm not going to a store? TIA

Find a Levi's style you like and buy it over and over. They really don't change much over time. When a pair wears out or I want a new color, I just order the same thing and it fits great every time. (Gap and others may change more frequently, but not sure).

I say do Kohl's curbside pickup to get a few styles and sizes, than order different colors anywhere online once you find what works.

Levi's is pretty straightforward, just pick the cut you like: https://www.levi.com/US/en_US/features/men-jeans

But I don't really know what you're looking for so I'd suggest going to the fancy jeans websites and buying new versions of what you already own.

I bought these running pants for half off in both M and L because the Nike store properly precluded offering dressing room death dens.

https://www.nike.com/t/essential-mens-woven-running-pants-J5vDVs/BV4833-010

Wouldn’t have helped. Tried them on last night at home and M fits lengthwise like the picture but they’re borderline tights and you can probably tell which ball remains. L is less porno but they’re long and kind of bunch up at the bottom.

Lots of people in the reviews say similar but less blunt.

Are the models for these things genitalia-less?

Wouldn’t have helped. Tried them on last night at home and M fits lengthwise like the picture but they’re borderline tights and you can probably tell which ball remains. L is less porno but they’re long and kind of bunch up at the bottom.

Lots of people in the reviews say similar but less blunt.

Are the models for these things genitalia-less?
Chicks want to see the bulging peen and ball

Back to office a few days a week. Amazon pants are in the rotation. Also wearing the Allbirds for the comfy casual office days.

Guys.. I have to make a confession. I have a pair of cargo shorts and I like them. OK! Like I'm not going to wear them on a date with the wife but backyard playing cornhole with the buds you can slip a few frosty barley pops in your side pocket just a stud dad move imo. Whats that you need a bottle opener? no problem thats in here too.

i give cargo shorts what i like to call the "quarter mile rule" and for the folks at home the quarter mile rule means its okay to wear cargo shorts as long as you will not be going more than a quarter mile from your home. Obviously they also qualify under the "quick errand" rule, like if you need to run to the grocery store b/c you forgot eggs nobody will hold it against you for not changing into something more appropriate for public consumption.

I got these patagonia shorts at pathfinder a while back and I really like them. You can get keys, phone, wallet in them with out doing the full on cargo thing. Still have some cargos around, as well to maintain my #basicdad vibe

I used to love the crap out of cargo shorts for things like diapers and wipes back when I needed those things. That was probably near the peak of the cargo short backlash.

take old flat front khakis (jcrew my go to right now) and cut them off at your favorite length.  I go decently above the knee because I like to show skin.  As they wear from the wash, they get a delightful fringe and look amaze.  Been doing this for years

I tried to keep this a secret then I saw some nicer brands were selling shorts with the fray already there so I let me secret out .  Got the olive, tan, sand, light gray, salmon (only for a weekend on the Vineyard) and some light blues for this summer.  Then I buy replacements at the reduced spring cost and I am set like year old cement.

When it comes to casual apparel, joggers are always at the top. The reason is simple. Like with other fashions, once you start wearing something t-shirt or denim, people will start noticing and asking questions. People might even start asking if you are related to the designer who created this particular piece. Or they might ask what your thoughts are on the current state of fashion. For example, I got very fancy joggers from https://lululookalike.com/lululemon-joggers. I am delighted with their quality and price. Great product.

i've started tucking everything. it was a long and tough journey experimenting with the tuck and going out with a bunch of trash fits and probably getting laughed at behind my back. but i believe i've figured it out and i think it's going to change my life.

Tuck pro-tip that seems weird and maybe dorky but is very worthwhile; tuck your undershirt (you need to wear an undershirt) into your underpants, then tuck the regular shirt in between the underpants and regular pants/jeans. It does a great job of keeping the regular shirt tucked nicely in place. Also, make sure your pants are secured above the hip bones.

TUCK TIPS
- need to be mid or high rise
- absolutely no skinny or slim for jeans or trousers
- straight leg seems best for jeans. can't get wider to work. too gen z for me.
- straight leg is good to really wide for trousers can be a sick look (but maybe too k-pop for goEMAW).
- shoe chunkiness must match pant wideness
- the higher the waist, the bigger the dick energy

I like the Levi's 512 for jeans. But not the weird stretchy kind. Just regular jeans material. 501's are great as well imo.

Undershirt in the skivvies is an old military tuck trick. Keeps everything nice and tight. Nobody has time for undershirt creep below the uniform.
