the gang violence from the streets is beginning to make its way into our arenas and into our living rooms thanks to cnn and espn.  damn it all.  i’ve spent the last 2 hours explaining to my 6 year old, who I call “Spud”, why what happened tonight should never happen again.  he’s just too damn young to understand though.

i wish the kids playing in tonight’s game thought about Spud before the gang fight tonight and maybe, just maybe, a few more lives would be saved instead of ending in this type of senseless violence

Judging by the video, even with Total Thug McCormack pushing and shoving from behind, DG was able to take DeSousa down, and  that's when Complete and Absolute Thug DeSousa just losses his mind and that's when the stomping, punching and chair throwing commenced.

SMDH, KthUg.

Props to James Love for helping out his guy in the midst of all that KthUg'ishness

How many KU staffers and players does it take to try and beat up two K-State guys (one hurt)?

This forum does not acknowledge absurd K-State apologies.   I too find this hilarious, because we just expect this kind of behavior out KthUg and the enabling apologist KU (Affliction wearing) fans.  SMDH.

Judging by the videos we've got 5 possibly 6 KU players and a staffer going after our two guys who walked away unscathed.  SMDH

I did not watch any of this game since there's no point in watching games involving KU until/unless their shameless, filthy pro-am cheating scheme is put to a stop, but I can't help but feel (based on my 5 minutes of WTFing over brawl highlights) that we're collectively focusing a bit too little on the guy who stomped once or twice on what I presume was another (cornered/trapped) human being.  That seems almost as bad as trying/failing to maim the same helpless person with a chair.

How was KU bball not already crippled with sanctions?  College basketball is beyond repair.  If Self kicks De Stoolsa off the team, will the NCAA allow him to hire a replacement from the NBADL or a euro league?  *bites nails*

Hey there again you EMAWs!

I'm watching a particular YouTube mashup of the postgame pressers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCL0KDMsVxI) because EVERYONE in the media room at Purdue/Illinois was talking about your game rather than the one they'd watched, moments before, with their own eyes.

The latest iteration of Oscar's I guess it's my fault pains me all the more because I'd never heard of Brad Underwood before visiting this board.  You're stuck with a passive-aggressive sociopath while the previous team he destroyed is finally seeing revival by one of YOUR GUYS.

It's totally not fair. You guys were right, as usual.
Title: Re: BRAWL
Post by: TheProdigiousTalent on January 22, 2020, 06:35:03 AM
Although Oscar's reaction was predictably passive and inane it will probably also end up being pretty characteristically forgettable.  It was hilariously absurd that he took the aw-shucks, boys-will-be-boys approach and completely lacked context, focusing on coaching failures instead of the melee.  No one in their right mind expected KSU to compete in that game.

Gems from the phog, because why not.

Quote
This is why we do not show mercy to that ********* juco school. Should have ran up the score! A bad look is that grape stealing the ball when the game was over, hope he got his head stomped in good. ***** Gay State!

Quote
Seems like the type of thing K-State players would do... try to bait your players into a suspension.

Quote
I have rewatched the fight and there is a guy in white pants and a black shirt that started throwing the punches. That guy should be kicked off KSU or arrested.

Quote
The KSU players started the whole thing.

Quote
Silvio had every right to stuff that thing right in his punk **** face.

Quote
Did Silvio actually throw a punch? Picking up the stool looks bad but he didn’t actually use it.

Wow... did he throw a punch... wow.

Quote
Yeah, KState has always been trash

Quote
Weber when asked what happened at the end of the game. He said he doesn't know. He didnt see it

Talk about lack of institutional control

Well this is awkward...

Quote
dude did nothing until he was attacked. About time he showed some freaking emotion. I for 1 loved it and I’d start his **** the next game.

Quote
Silvio defended the house and then taunted. He really didn't do much during the scrum either. Picked up a chair while he was way outside of the melee and then dropped it.

Quote
I thought picking up the chair was exactly what he needed to do to defend himself. Notice, nobody attacked him and left him alone when he picked up the chair. More players should try that strategy.

Quote
The dickhead was the KSU player who decided to start it all by trying to steal the ball when we signaled that we were dribbling it out. If he got head stomped, he deserved it

Quote
Some times things just boil over. This is one of those times. I have trouble crucifying de Souza for the T. Picking up the chair was...unfortunate. The viral photo is very unfortunate.

Quote
Looked like Silvio picked up the stool in jest. the whole melee lasted a blink of an eye.

Quote
I think both Long and Self have been WAY too apologetic about this.

Quote
This whole thing doesn't happen if the tater players don't swarm DeSousa in the first place. I'm waiting for an apology from K State.

Quote
Who gives a crap about PR? I like the bad boy image. I'm tired of being the ones pushed around. I want teams to fear playing us.

Quote
There was nothing to apologize for here-- KSU was every bit if not more responsible for this incident than we were. I'd argue that it was precipitated by the whole KSU team charging off the bench. Standing over someone you've just stuffed isn't much of an offense-- the whole thing escalated because of the actions of the KSU bench.

Quote
Good luck waiting for an apology from the classless Aggies. They are a ***** school run by ***** people. I can’t wait for the day they cease to exist.

Quote
I'm not even a fan of SDS and his play this year but suspending for the season is excessive...an apology along with a statement saying he saw the whole bench coming at him and he reacted poorly with 1 or 2 games is enough for me.

Quote
I love this so much. Boring game until the last second.

All of these people on their high horse about how awful this is need to chill. There is a bloodlust in our human nature. Why, if this is so awful is it the top story on ESPN? Why is it the most watched video on espn streaming nationwide? Is it because of how awful you think it is?? Give me a break. A little excitement for a Tuesday evening. No one even got hurt except for Squeeky with a little strawberry on his chin!

Quote
Watch all videos. SDS was ambushed. Chair was bad idea but he was defending himself until reinforcements arrived. Watch the videos!

Quote
Have you never noticed how juvenile K-State is?

Quote
The only thing DeSousa is guilty of is swatting the shi*t out of a layup taken in bad sportsmanship and then giving the bad sportsman a small taste of his own medicine.

Quote
All of the anger should be directed at those purple pussies. So SDS gets a taunting tech... BFD! Not an issue. KSU clearing the bench like that is ******* us and considering what we have the team has dealt with in the past with that POS school... ***** them.

Quote
Was Silvio's action after the block over the top? Sure. He would have gotten a technical, but that stuff happens all too often. However, things went nuts when the taters attacked him and players left the bench to go after him. The clown in the polo should be the one that gets the biggest suspension, without question.

Quote
the physical altercation was 100% KSU. SDS didn't run to the KSU bench swinging, the KSU bench came swinging to him.

Quote
I love the comments that say suspensions for everyone who left the bench. Both teams ENTIRE LINEUPS left the bench. And the game was over. Clock said 0.0 clearly, but stupid new rule said put 1 sec on clock so KSU could actually get reward points for the fight they instigated with the steal and then assured would happen when 3 bench players ran at Silvio.

Quote
K State player was dumb for the steal/lay-up and he got what he deserved.

Quote
Seems like the team is as sick of these purple pieces of sh it on the court as I am of their trolls in our threads here. They’re the worst. Fu ck ‘em!

Quote
Down 50 or down 20+ doesn't matter. Its a bush league move by KSU. That's why Weber will always be considered a whiny ****** of a coach and is known as a poor loser.

Quote
Looked like Silvio picked up the stool in jest. the whole melee lasted a blink of an eye.

There's more still on there, but I have to go to work.

This brawl was absolutely wonderful for these two KS college basketball entertainment businesses.  It's a massive amount of advertising.  Do you know how much advertisig money will be made on the rematch?  Wow!  I haven't watched a game of K-State basketball in a few years now, and I won't watch the rematch in Manhattan either, but I CONSIDERED IT!

All of these talking heads remarking about how terrible this is, it's so LOL.  This is entertainment, baby.

Gonna need a new set of alternate uniforms and merch to really capitalize.

That’s a good point too. Gotta take advantage of the spot light while we have it. After the Adidas investigation wraps u and sanctions come down, its back to obscurity for the Kansas teams (other than WSU).

I hope they do cammo uniforms for the rematch in Manhattan, ostensibly in tribute to Ft. Riley.  With a huge color guard American flag ceremony of alegiance horse crap to start the game.  Get everyone really MAGA'd up.  Then, just blast Sandstorm at every timeout.  Maybe mix in some Lee Greenwood or Toby Keith as well.

I for one am embarrassed. Embarrassed for our team, for our university, and embarrassed by this coaching staff. Coach Weber has taken responsibility after the game, and as the self-admitted culprit, it is my firm belief that it would be in the best interest of our town, our university, and our team, to cut ties with oscar Weber immediately. CAN HIS ASS.

at the end of the day, a kstate student athlete made a legal play within the framework of the event he was competing in. the kid that ku pays to play for them then got a technical foul for taunting the kstate player after he also made a legal play.

then he punched one of our players in the face and looked like he was going to hit another with a chair before having it taken away. from the tape, it looked like another ku player was stomping and or kicking a kstate player that got involved after the ku guy punched kstates player (david sloan) in the face. I haven't seen a good enough angle to be 100% sure of that though.

While I’m stunned that the same fan base that claimed victimization out of the Adidas affair is now defending their merry band of thugs with zeal (I also realize that’s typical of fan bases dominated by non college attending elements).

I do agree that based on his admission of guilt.  oscar Weber should be removed as basketball coach at K-State immediately.

In that building they built next Allen's Boo House where they keep the Rules of Basketball, you can rent a pair of "see invisible stuff" glasses for $15 and when you have them on, you can then see the unwritten rules of basketball right there next to the written rules . . . which BTW came with a letter of authenticity.

There is obviously blame on both sides but what I'm amazed at is the fact that no one is talking about how the KU players got so enraged :curse: (ftp://:curse:) that they trampled a ton of their handicapped fans!  That poor girl (assuming she was handicapped by the pain in her face) who was trying to hold back Da thugza from throwing a chair into other handicapped fans.  And then you have McCormick trampling over numerous handicapped to go kick a defenseless KSU player who was on the ground.  Disgusting.

This clearly shows the ku guy punching the kstate guy in the face. The best part is the ku guy in the suit running and jumping to attack the other kstate guy that jumped in to try and stop the face punching.

Denied, will never stop. Actually considered the lawl connection, but for it to be that it would’ve had to be lowercase, if we wanna get technical about it.

So was the spread actually 22 and then like it all changed because of that one meaningless free throw? Is that actually true?

DeSouza was being polite standing by him after he blocked the shot and asked if he was ok. Then, the Kstate bench attacked him and the rest of his team. He then grabbed the chair and asked if anyone just needed to sit down for a bit....that's all no big deal.

It won't. Silvio couldn't pay me to let me play at this point, and DMac misses 2 easy/unimportant games before returning for our next ranked opponent.

Dax what does Karl have to say about the incident

Oh goodness MC, the whole affair just has me feeling a bit flushed.

It seems Karla was standing at the back door letting Roy Williams her beloved miniature Schnauzer out for his late potty run just as Karl flew into a saucy language’ d rage over the events that transpired in the game.    As Karla propped open the door, Karl's horrible, awful words pierced the cold night air of old Prairie Village just as their neighbors, a young pastor and his lovely wife arrived home from Monday evening small group at the church that he lead.   Karla thought she was going to die of embarrassment right where she stood.   Karla just glared at Karl as she scooped up Roy Williams (who was adorned in the cutest lil KU sweater you've ever seen that Karla had just picked up on sale at the Kansas Sampler) and stomped off to bed.

The next morning Karl got nothing but the silent treatment from Karla who had decided that this week’s date night and the usual 2nd mini-bottle of Sutter Home Chardonnay was simply out of the question.    She'd just spend the evening knitting and wishing the Samuelson's on the other side would keep their bird feeders filled so the cold cardinals wouldn’t empty her feeders all the time.

The KC Star editorial board wrote that De Sousa should be suspended for the entire year.  Their logic?  It was behavior unworthy of such a classy basketball program (which, BY THE WAY, just found a way to keep De Sousa on scholarship despite his totally selfish secret plan with Adidas to exchange cash in exchange for his agreeing to attend KU, the victim in all this).

I mean...you can't make this crap up.  Same "editorial" also chastised KSU for stealing the ball by calling it as bush league as it gets.  It's pretty sad/astounding that KU hoops, clearly one of the dirtiest in the history of the sport, is still considered unimpeachable in those parts.  They're in complete denial.  Lulz.

They actually keep stats for blocked shots, that's how often the happen in games.

KU scores TD's in the final seconds down by 35, throws lob dunks down 15 with 2 seconds left.   The other team just laughs and high fives each other and goes home.

Dunking in garbage time is a bitch move. Stealing the ball down 22 with 5 seconds left while the winning team is just dribbling out the clock is a bitch move (and you know it). The brawl? That's a bit more complicated, because both sides are at fault.

I actually don't see why either is a "bitch" move, although it's certainly not classy.  KU caught flack for garbage time dunks because they've tried to brand themselves as #classy.

But my real point was that you're re-writing Hawk history to where KU fans never thought their garbage time stuff was ok.  And you're doing it because it fits your narrative here, which allows you to argue that the ONLY thing we can say for certain in all of this was that the KSU garbage time steal was wrong.

I agree with Spracne that the cats clearing the bench was wrong and escalated the events. However in the broader picture, watching de stoolsa stand over your teammate and use his dong to brush gordon's teeth and be like "this is fine lets go shake hands" would be infinitely worse. Teammates are going to jump to the defense of their teammates when they are being unnecessarily humiliated and if anyone can't wrap their brain around that then i guess i don't know what to tell you.

Something can be both a bitch move and not a big deal (like a late dunk or steal)

Something can also be both a bitch move and egregious (like diving over the line to tackle a kneeling quarterback or bringing a stool to a shoving match)

The seat part is cushioned though.  My guess is he was going to try to gouge someone's eyes out with the legs.  Or impale them.

If you drop a stool when there’s nobody around to hit, did you really drop it ON YOUR OWN?

Ethics scholars may argue about this for decades.

It's very likely that Silvio intentionally dropped the stool on the handicapped lady he was hovering over. Rumor is that he didn't take too kindly to her stealing the last corn chip from her partner's nacho supreme

Let's not get too serious about this. We all know it was hilarious. The stool will live in infamy, and for the most part both teams walked away without impactful punishment.

Also, Dajuan Gordon, who pronounces his first name hilariously stupidly, is a Busch League beta.
Lol, just wait. May not be perennial like Team Adidas (for now) but he'll lead us to what we've been building on. Get some heads up Ws, conference champ or two, deeper tourney runs every other year or so...per the usual. All the while, football will be business as usual. It sucks, losing that edge in the only sport Adidas is good at....I get it.

does this count as a hot take? or just a odd take?

First, when the clock is running out in a blowout, let the clock run out. Don't try for a steal. It is unnecessary. And, while the officials did a great job overall in dealing with the fight and did not make a mistake in this, I would consider calling a foul on the defender going for the steal. The offensive team was clearly trying to run out the clock. If you call the foul, you avoid a potential bad situation and discourage the same thing in the future. Reasonable minds can differ on this thought, but I think it would be a good way for an official to handle a situation. Remember, we saw the same thing in the Kansas-Monmouth game earlier this season.

This does not mesh with the talking point that he was just a poor innocent kid who did not know his guardian and his future college basketball coach traded his services for cash. That's incredible blissful ignorance from a really smart kid. Of course KU fans would have no problem painting a smart black kid as an unaware dumbfuck, just to fit their victim narrative. There is no bar too low for hawk coaches, administrators, and fans, it's enough to make Baylor blush.

This thread took a very bizarre turn.

What do you expect from a KU basketball fan and a Texas football fan?

KU t-shirt fan nation didn’t attend KU and likely didn’t attend a 4 year traditional college at all.  So they have no real understanding of an organic rivalry.  This is where the dynamic has changed over the years as the lack of an NBA alternative in KC has driven the Yankees/Patriot/Wherever LeBron is playing fan towards KU basketball.

Why would a Sophomore from Angola give a crap, or even know about things that happened in this rivalry years ago? #Drivel

goddammit guys

Yeah, he got us, the Rhodes Scholar post should have tipped everyone off. Spracne does a fantastic job of jumping back and forth of the parody/outrage line.  Very similar to the Bryson Stricker twitter account, has a few really good posts laughing at the whole situation then goes on a hawk rage fest.

If the dude were actually smart he would be at Duke

Ned Seaton's family owns the Mercury, and did (maybe still does) own the Coffeyville Journal.

BTW, Silvio De Souza's great grandfather, Hank, wrote "The Kansas Wildcat March" one evening after a hard day of work in the Angolan oil fields.
