No, the Ed wasn't Dave. If I remember the story right, he turned out to be some weird white dude in Vegas basically parading around in blackface on his podcast. Which is unfortunate, to say the least.
The kayfabe was very fun. I genuinely liked The Ed when I thought he was real (or at least an exaggerated version of "himself").

Dameshek, Carolla and almost everyone knew it was acting for the most part but assumed the actor was black. He did a reveal in person at a Carolla event; Carolla dumped him. Years later, I was informed weeks before he knew I’d see him and didn’t believe it until he was in front of me and talked. Then he was exposed like a buckeye at the watch party in Vegas for when H3O lost to a d-2 team with Rake, DGale, emawgeddon and a DU bachelor party there. Most let him continue doing his thing, but it was never right again. A year or so later, MIR destroyed him on twitter in response to him gay slur’n, and he tried to vanish from every EMAW connection he had.

I knew it was a rough ridin' fake from the start and have the receipts. Them putting it on their shows was irresponsible at best. Even given the incredibly unlikely scenario they thought it was real, parading it out there was exploitive.
