jesus Christ. this is the best big12 matchup of the weekend and it's on +
:flush: :flush: :flush: :flush: :flush: :flush: :flush:

even more reason to go to the game i guess :'bye cruel world:
-
It’s $5 a month guys, and you get a shitload of other kstate content. I don’t get the angst.
-
it's a big 12 game, and we're playing on the internet and not espn or fs1, hope that helps
-
Guess I won't be watching whatever you bros are talking about
-

The majority of the board already watches their games “on the internet”. ESPN+ is not some piece of crap kstatehdtv debacle.
-
It's an exposure issue
-
if you don't see the difference between ESPN/2/U/FS1 and ESPN+ then ok.
-
do you guys know how many separate people are going to text me and ask where the game is and how can they watch the game and if I have a link to watch the game or a log in to watch or a secret website to watch? lots, you guys. lots. that alone makes me not want to deal with this crap.
also, anybody pretending to not understand why getting thrown onto a streaming only platform is crap, can just stop. there's no need to do that.
-
if you don't see the difference between ESPN/2/U/FS1 and ESPN+ then ok.
It’s fine to be upset about the slot we got, but you are kidding yourself if you think we get major exposure on anything other than the first two you just listed.
-
Holy crap are we the old person BBS?
-
"[insert bartender's name], can you put the K-State game on? It's on espn+."
":dubious:"
-
They should take the video that they put in the internet streaming pipes and make it a tv channel that goes on a cable sports package you have to pay $10 for.
-
FWIW...my AMEX card has $10 back when spending $49+ on ESPN+...so check to see if you have that and could save you some for the year sub. Hopefully game gets pushed to actual TV.
-
Holy crap are we the old person BBS?
There is zero way, literally zero that playing a conference game on ESPN+ can be spun as any type of positive. That has nothing to do with being old. I have been paying for ESPN+ the morning it launched, I love it, it will have a fraction of the exposure of even being on FS2.
How many recruits do you think will be watching ESPN+? In fact you can make the argument that paying to watch supporter sports on the internet is exclusively for olds. There won't be a single damn casual watcher that bothers to find this thing. We're rough ridin' sharing a platform with Miles To Go :flush:
-
The good thing about it is 8 of the Big XII teams have agreed to let ESPN+ stream their to crappy for broadcast games... and they get paychecks for it. :Wha:
-
reddit killed all their streaming pages and i don't know where to go for anything anymore beside ksu cats athletics from our guy jmarks

I did not cut the cable cord just to be nickle and dime'd to death by internet streaming services.

ESPN+ should make their thing where it's like NBA league pass or something ppv-ish? People pay, and they can then watch the stuff on a janky internet stream OR on some channel that's only accessible if you've paid but that works perfectly.

I have not had any problems watching anything on ESPN+. It is the exact same process as watching the game if it were on FOX, CBS, or any ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU. Open the app, find the game, select watch.
Who here is having problems with this?

It's not the same process because it's a pain in the ass to flip around during commercials. Also a pain in the ass if you want to rewind and rewatch a play or something funny real quick. I've also experienced buffering/picture quality issues -- and I pay out the ass for good internet.
Also, not for nothing, but it makes it extremely unlikely that otherwise uninterested parties would watch our game.

So do you have issues with every streaming service? I don't have cable, so I use WatchESPN and FSGO and whatnot. I think you may just be an old person who is unable to let go of the past.
Also, I don't think I've ever cared about the ease at which a person could watch something that they are not interested in.

Having to explain to 50+ year old family members who live out in the flint hills how to watch the game is frustrating and I feel for these type of folks. Rural Kansas has shotty ass internet/streaming capabilities, and I like to think about the convenience for others, rather than your normal K-State city folk accessing the game. I guess they all learned how to text eventually, so ESPN+ will just have to force these poor souls to get the right equipment to watch these games.
-
I used it for one game last year. It was iffy at first but once it worked it ended up being a perfectly normal game watching experience.
In fact we can relive the whole saga here and see the rollercoaster of emotions depending on how good or shitty the stream was:

Those things don't affect me. Possibly because I'm woke AF.
I used to have to tell my grandpa all the time how to change the input on his TV to HDMI 2, and then turn on the directv box, then turn it to 206. This was about a decade before ESPN+ happened.
Things change, old people don't understand technology, someone has to explain it to them 100 times. This is going to happen until the end of time. So yes, everyone complaining about this is old.

There is nothing to flex. My dad, who still calls the internet "the e-mail" is able to watch games streamed on WatchESPN. Streaming things in 2019 is not impressive, by any means. Having issues with streaming services in 2019 on the other hand. . .

Don't be concerned at all. I have the chromecast and fire stick and super internet and all that crap. Kstatesports just doesn't scratch the itch enough to eff with it all to put it on the tv when as soon as I turn the tv on I'll see I can instantly resume catching up on love & hip hop.
If it lines up right where I'm walking the dog by the bar where the alumni dorks have already rigged everything up, I'll stop in there.
Evangelize ESPN+ for another day and a half and then get your asses to Manhattan.

I'd be down if I knew Stuart ESPN would be promoting the holy eff out of it, but they won't. I haven't seen a single damn thing about this weekend's KU/WVU game, not on espn, not on the app either
-
This line was in the Guerin Emig article
This was due to the reported $40 million bounty for the Big 12 as a result of the agreement, but also due to this fact: Big 12 ADs and decision-makers realize it won’t be long before more consumers stream games than watch them on cable television.
As someone who has ESPN+ and who very likely will be a cord cutter by the end of 2019, I don't think that it's going to be a short period of time where more people are streaming live sports than they are watching on television. I think people are conflating Netflix watchers with the same people watching college sports and I don't think those crowds are very similar. I'd be willing to bet the percentage of students with season tickets that watch 3 or more CFB games a week is less than 20%.
-
YouTube TV costs half of what dish or cable typically does, yet provides all the same sports channels. Internet streaming, and the savings is what is driving people in the tens of thousands to continue to cut cords. This is why ESPN can't stop hemorrhaging money. Since cable networks profits peaked in 2015, they have been on a steady decline ever since with over 12 million subscribers for ESPN alone ditching them, and a total market loss of 25% to date. ESPN+ with just a $6 price isn't even enough to cover all of ESPN's affiliate fees, so it will certainly increase as people get hooked on their 'streaming service' and the company attempts to make up losses.
ESPN+ is not a better, faster, more in depth, or innovative anything. It's an attempt to get people to pay for games that would have otherwise found their way onto a TV station in hopes that ESPN will be able to carve out its own share of the internet streaming market. I refuse to support a channel that constantly promotes the SEC over all other conferences due to affiliations, overcharges its customers for the product, and then produces a sub-par and biased product anyways. That's why I won't pay the $6 a month.
-
Did not read
-
.... it was 9 sentences.
-
every time I look at cutting the cord, the a la carte costs for internet and all of the channels i want end up being about the same without the convenience. Plus, I have 5 tvs in the house the all have access to all the channels I want.

I could see a la carte costing about the same on 1 tv, but with 5 tvs, the box rentals would kind of add up. Not sure how something like Youtube TV would cost nearly as much.

Yeah, I noticed that I wonder what percentage of Americans have no isp. Without having to pay for internet, cord cutting is way cheaper. I currently pay $250 a month for Directv, almost $300 in months I'm paying for the hockey or baseball package. The most expensive, comprehensive streaming service I can buy is PlayStation Vue's most expensive package is $75.

-
You can get a price that is competitive with streaming services if you are willing to regularly call your tv provider and request that price. The best thing about the streaming services, imo, is that you never have to call anyone, though. You just go online to start services and go online to cancel. No waiting on hold, no waiting for the best offer, no waiting on a technician to show up to your house to connect. It's just way easier.

Sports streaming? Yeah, I think they're all annoying. Just let me watch the game on ESPN or FS1 or Fox.
It's obviously not the end of the world or anything. Like I said, I already have ESPN+ and know how to use it and everything. I just think it's inferior than actually watching it on cable. If you're a cord-cutter, I can understand why you're all for this. But for those of us who have both, I'd prefer to watch it on the boobtube, and leave ESPN+ for Division III field hockey games and Miles to Go.

Facts, before they were brought out they were practical, I didn't even need to try to scam them or anything, they always have free crap when things went wrong. Carriage disputes, they'd give credits for the station you lost. After the NHL lockout they gave the package for free. Whenever I called in for something I always got something free without asking. With AT&T not only do they not do this but they won't make good with the mistakes they make and they try the funny crap. I have the protection plan, called a tech out and then they tried to give us hidden charges.
I'm trying to hold out to their inevitable sale but I don't think it's going to happen.
-
You guys are just now figuring out AT&T sucks ass? I put a jihad on them 8 years ago.

Why? All the good games were on normal programming. Just take the L.
To make sure I was logged in correctly.

They definitely sent the D-team to Stillwater, though.

Sounds like quite the hassle just to make sure you can watch a game.

It might sound that way, but it wasn't.

Unless maybe pushing buttons on a remote is more difficult for you than it is for me.

Lol. We just missed 5 minutes of the game and a score, but here you are, defending the platform like you have stock in it.
-
I mean, we missed an entire basketball game because Fox Sports forgot to send a broadcast truck. We missed 5 minutes of this game because the ESPN D-team couldn't work through a weather delay. I don't think the fault is because ESPN+ is broadcasting it, since this doesn't happen on every ESPN+ broadcast.

Fox Sports is part of a cable plan. You’re not handcuffed and pushed against a wall to watch it like ESPN+, a streaming only app, that can’t get the streaming part down.

If we both agree that cable plan broadcasts also get screwed up, then I don't see what your argument is.

I missed K-State’s end drive because I flipped over to my cable provider over the delay. No notice on the app or anything that the game was back in play.

SkinBen texted me it was back

Does your cable provider usually send you these notifications that you didn't get from ESPN+?

My cable provider has the flash back button, which is amazing, other than changing an input.
-
So we are back to the entire first argument that ESPN+ is not inconvenient for me, because I do not have cable, and it is inconvenient for you because you use cable and mot streaming services. Glad we were able to spend all this time figuring that out again.

It’s inconvenient for most of the fan base.
-
But my entire point was that for me it is the same.

I would post tweets of people talking about how ESPN+ is fine, except it's pretty normal so no one tweets about it.

I mean CBS screwed up the week 1 Chiefs broadcast with technical difficulties for ~15 minutes, this isn't some problem endemic to streaming platforms.
-
Wacky hating espn+ is kind of a surprise imo
-
The frame rate during the first half was pretty bad. Second half got better as fewer people were watching.
-
are we done with these yet so I can finally watch the cats rtp?

MiR gets it best. ESPN+ is a fine platform for crap like KSU olympic sports and EU soccer qualifying and Miles to Go or KSU-Nicholls State but it is not a fine platform for a Big 12 conference game in 2019.
Also if it could just be like the NBA Fullcourt package or something it would be a lot more convenient. But it might have too much content for that to be viable.
-
It’s as simple as also making it a tv channel that one can pay their cable subscribers for. People who already buy all the channels they want from their cable company can buy that one too if they want it, while all those who do streaming crap can buy it direct from espn if they want.
From there, it’s up to the sports teams on that channel/stream to be interesting enough to warrant the money. But the teams and espn need to appreciate that this all could backfire. A customer might say “not only is this sports not interesting enough for me to buy this extra channel, I might as well cancel my regular channels if my team isn’t going to consistently be on those.”

The soccer match this afternoon, like everything else I've seen on ESPN+ was great. I know why ESPN wanted to rush this ahead of Disney+ but the roll out of Big 12 Now was all bad.

I didn't but I missed about 20 minutes of the second half

Yeah the whole feeling of being locked into this game without the ability to switch back and forth really sucks. I cast to my TV from a tablet, and when I switch to regular TV, my cast stops and I have to redo the entire connection. Pain in the ass.

I have chromecast, but I just played our game on laptop and watched better games on the TV. I didn't even listen to our crappy game.

Roku stick. Why would you buy a TCL tv?
-
They are hella hella cheap and constantly on sale on Amazon
-
It was just for a spare room so I thought what the hell...but obviously I shouldn't have bought it.
