How do I get the other teams coach to not need 10 goddamn pitches for each batter in coach pitch?

Good natured joking with the parents in the stands has not worked and pleading for the 14 year old ump to call strikes when one of the noodles actually crosses the plate only gets me a sportsmanship warning   :dunno:

how old are the boys? i'll assume under 8, teach your fielders a tried and true chant, it goes Heeeeeeeeeeey batter batter, and when the pitch goes in the air they yell Saaaaawinggggg batter!!!!!

the little guys love it and it keeps them engaged in the game

yes, you'll need the help of one of the dads behind the backstop, now you know the ump doesn't say strike after a called strike is thrown unless he is extremely small timey, he is gonna point to the right and say something that sounds like haaaa.  Ok get dad in position and when he sees the 50/50 pitch and the ump doesn't budge dad jumps in and hollers HEEYAAAAAH!!!!!  Now the other parents won't really know whats going on but the ump will and he will appreciate the subtle criticism and start giving you makeup calls.

How do you stop good players families from going on summer vacations?

we have a solid core, just have to put them in the right spots and not worry so much about rotating those positions regardless of what little johnys parents think

speaking of that, the parents suck 10x more than the kids.

kslim brings up some things every coach has to navigate and rarely is it done well.  Communication with the parents early on can alleviate some problems.  You have to have a parent meeting to start the process and lay out what all they are signing up for.  Cost, practice schedule, private lessons, league and/or tournament schedule, uni's, facilities etc.  Parents come from all sorts of angles and you don't want a kid on your team that the parent didn't realize what he was getting into or one that expects way more than what is going down.  Tell them this in the meeting and be clear about what it will be like to be on this team, far better to be looking for more dudes than putting up with unhappy parents.

This is always going to happen, roster number is the most important thing here, if you have a committed group of parents/kids 11 kids is best, if not carry 13 until you end up with a committed 11.  As far as the good player thing a good player can hit, field, and or pitch above level right?  OK we need to develop more of those duh, easy to say but how gato?

YOU don't have the time or the ability (most likely) to teach these kids to hit or pitch, tell the parents this in your meeting.  They need one on one professional instruction here, 4-5 pre season lessons for each player will do wonders.

Practice time should be for defense and simulated games that are fun, competitive and open their eyes to situations they will encounter and how to handle them.

This is a fun level and pretty easy to dominate

skill areas to focus on

1 need 2-3 pitchers that can stride at their target and throw a pitch that the catcher can catch consistently, passed balls are a killer.  Anything remotely over the plate from the knees to the MOUF will work here.

need 1 catcher that can keep pitches from getting to the backstop, arm doesn't matter, he isnt going to throw out baserunners yet anyway.

pitch selection at the plate, swinging at strikes and taking balls is HUGE, your team is at a huge disadvantage if they don't understand this, there are literally a million reasons why.

when you get a runner on first, always without fail have him steal 2nd on the first pitch and the hitter MUST take that pitch.

runner on 3rd passed ball, read the situation, strikeout pitcher on the mound weak hitter at the plate be agressive, weak pitcher top of the order up, don't run yourself out of the inning.
