great looking friend, name?

Wife named her Kitty Paint.  She happened upon us ten years ago and has kept the mice at bay ever since.

She takes care of her end and I mine. :)

I'm a huge scout fan.

I've been in the market for a hypoallergenic cat (horrible genes by me) for a while.  thinking about a russian blue, or breaking the bank on a bengal (rolls royce of cats).

Yeah.  There's two problems with them though: 1. they're expensive AF.  I bet that cat in the picture runs at least $1500.  Some cheaper models are available, but not quite as cool looking.  2. They require a ton of exercise.  I don't really think I want one of those giant cat-towers* in my living space.

*note to self- send email to Gene re. "Cat-Towers"

Alternatively, I could get a nice Russian Blue, which is also hypo-allergenic, and looks like this stately SOB:

pure breed cats get pricey but scout was worth every dime.

the cat in your picture a russian blue in color, not breed.  that is a chartreux and they are very allergenic.  the russian blue breed is no where near as doughy as the chartreux.

I'm afraid my dog Gator is going to get the neighborhood cat one of these days. He keeps climbing fences into our backyard, sneaking into our garage when we open it, etc. I can't have his blood on my hands, but maybe it's what's best for the neighborhood.

I kind of want a cat. Could I get one and it'll be cool from day one? Or is there a lot of training? Also possible I move after a year and have to give it up. Will it be heartbroken or be ok?

i once took a cat that lived outside for years, put it in the house with a litter box, and once you show them where it's at, she knew how to use it from day 1.  Leaving for a long weekend?  No worry, leave out some extra food and water.

They will claw the crap out of your furniture/carpet tho.

I've heard females will use a litter box immediately, but that's not the case with males.

I would suggest rubbing its nose in all of the clawed up crap really hard before you cut half of its paw off. That way it knows it deserves it.

I know a guy who runs a cat ranch out in WKS and could hook you up with a primo grade A farm cat. Best part about getting a farm cat is when you get bored with it in 1 year you can just let it go back outside and wash your hands of it.
