With the lake 48.57 feet over standard pool. And now the Corp is sending out letters tomorrow about emergency water release and the impact to local flooding. Are there nefarious forces at work here? Or are we just in a shitty weather pattern? Also we have the emergency gates under construction and the tubes as well. Who thought that up at the same time sans guest sinkhole at the tubes.?.?.. totally screwed my own personal saugeye experience. Discuss.

What happens if they open the foood gates? Do I have to start rooting for the hawks?

You will by rooting for the purple cyclones.
-
I think this and the fort Riley weather machine are related somehow

Will eff up a lot of people in the north east, it won’t effect most of the city.

I enjoy reading the pissed off comments on the corp's facebook posts

200 plus campsite underwater! Mad metros man!
-
Scoop it out with planes and then drop it on lawrentucky
-
and it’s only 35 days till Country Stampede!
-
I say let it overwash the top and let the water just trickle down the other side.
If they're afraid the dam won't hold they should have built it better.
-
start digging holes on the other side and wash away randolph, classic win/win/win scenario
-
How will releasing the water impact the fishing at rocky ford? This is the real question that needs to be addressed.
-
where can i get some damn dam bait?
-
I think this can all be chalked up to a case of Big Dam Foolishness.

After initial deluge will improve bigly! Wash out all that mono tangled up and empty cat fish bait containers all over the place and wash it right on down to law-rench to entangle blue hawks. :Take the Bait:

Man, back in school fishing at the Ford was a lot of fun, caught a lot of fish there.
Also when the White Bass were running up Fancy Creek. Couldn't reel'em in fast enough.

1136 feet above sea level-will trigger emergency release, that’s just their way of saying it will crest the emergency gates without saying it will crest the emergency gates. Right now it’s only rising an inch or less per day 1123.72 today. Hope we miss big rain events this weekend but it looks like we won’t?

That pic is crazy.

Evacuation advisories have been sent out to some residents not mandatory but planning ahead. I’ll post lake levels tomorrow. The interesting thing with the latest round of heavy rains the inflow gauges for Tuttlecreek are inoperable under water? So they don’t know what is actually incoming.
-
The army core of engineers should have done something in light of all this rain that has been forecast and we have been getting...
-
Agree but Kc and St. Louis “trumps oops”Little apple.

sd grandfather was a lifelong gov. attorney and worked on that original dam project for the corp of eng. Said they’d get threatened by the hicks all the time. they were told not to tell anyone in town who they were or what they were doing. he’s from upstate NY but remembered staying at the Warhem hotel or whatever when they were working on it.

Well officially now single digits till emergency gates are opened and no inflow measures probably about five days out before it gets unleashed.

Here in God's country (SEK) it's time to head to high ground.
-
there should be a 60 minute warning prior to busting it open so everyone can get to a 4 and get on their tubes in front of the outflow deal.
-
Bonus coverage from ear witness news. Had a meeting in Kc today so on way back I stopped over at the lake and took these pictures on way home. Water is coming through gates can see wet concrete but there are some pretty good streams running down spillway hard to see on pictures but it’s getting close.

Call KRock and request “when the levee breaks” every 10 minutes.

This!,, going down going down now going down. KRock evacuations mix!

So I haven't been back to Tuttle in years. That pic of the spillway with all the grass below it: When and how did they fill all that in? I remember when they let out all that water in the 90's that area had huge areas cut into it from the huge amounts of water flow. We used to go down there with mountain bikes or just "hike" cause it was such a foreign landscape. Like a miniature version of the grand canyon. looks like a golf course in that picture.
-
Yeah I remember that, it was like some sort of alien planet landscape down there.
-
This is all I could find taq, I think they backfilled it all like in 2003 but I’m not sure as I was still exiled in Minnesota then. There is nice park down there for riding now but that will get blown out when they release

idea: picture in your mind's eye, a net that spans the opening of each tube. the net is very strong. could be made with carbon fiber which is the strongest material known to mankind. cover each tube with the carbon fiber net. open flood tube. exotic fish get caught in the nets. open a seafood restaurant. cook the fish and serve them to hungry customers. profit. move to madagascar and study malaria resistant natives.
-
any idea what tropical fish reside in tuttle creek?
-
I think gar might be.

Too late Little Grill has this all sewn up Jamaican cuisine. Only exotic would be Zebra Mussels not to palatable. But the saugeye now there is something to look at. Would zebra mussels be a relative to the Piss clam?...

That place was great. My roommate had an excellent ability to go flying over his handlebars...

Current lake level as of 8:00 am today 1131.73 for all intents four feet below emergency release. river pond and Rocky Ford closures tonight at 8:00 pm rains Friday Saturday and expected today will force the Corps hand here probably in next three days as the estimated in flow is 54,200 this was all on the corps Facebook page.
Let’s hope loss and damage are limited !!! If you can by all means witness the outflow if you can it’s something to see and I have been lucky enough unless I get trucked before they let this go, too have witnessed it twice!
-
Going to start releasing at 7:00 am today 15,000 CfS out of tubes only. Hoping to draw lake level down before using gates. Had heavy rains in the area last night hope it works.
-
Should open the gates and let those bad boys roar.
-
one of you nitwits go get some video

She's all full boys... It's going to be assholes and elbows over there today. Inflow at 30,000... tubes can handle that allegedly but we are about 5 inches from spilling over the gates.
-
Let it trickle over the gates.
-
yep going to get ugly downstream hope those in the flood areas used their heads and listened to the advisories. Pto this weekend will see about getting over there to grab some video and pics.

Scary smart

This seems like a really far fetched and impossible plan! Where is all the silt going to settle? Does it just spread out evenly in the Kansas River? I can't imagine this would mobilize enough of the sediment to made a meaningful difference in the Tuttle's capacity. Need gE engineers to weigh in on this.
