Remember busy signals? It's like, well I know they are home because the line is busy but I'm just waiting for them to get off the phone. Or, omg it's been busy for like an hour, get off the phone people!
Feel free to discuss busy signals and your memories of them and also new certain things that you remember.
-
They were on the internet
-
Not when I was trying to call my grandma. Get off the phone grandma sheesh!
-
hey how about dial tones?
-
hey how about dial tones?
Yeah, dial tone, wow. On a number of occasions when their were people around I would say "I've got tone!" and then as I was dialing the last number I would say "firing!"
-
All of these belong in the signs of getting old thread.

You scrubs don't have landline phones anymore? Wow. Sucks to be poor, or so I've heard . . .
-
Remember: Time & Temp? You would call and a robot would tell you the time and temperature. I called it all the time because the only other way to figure out the temp was to wait for the Local on the 8's on the Weather Channel. The Topeka # was 271-7575. I remembered it just now off the top of my head because that's how often I called Time & Temp. Wow, it still works! You have to listen to a 30 second diabetes product commercial but then you get the time and temp.
-
Shocked it still exists. Guess the olds still call it.
-
I used to call time and temp all the time in grade school. Needed the temp because my mom wouldn't let me wear shorts to school if it was below like 40 or something (don't remember the threshold)
-
In college we would call the time and temp # in the middle of summer and make bets on when it would hit 100 degrees.
-
In middle school I use to call the radio station and requests songs for my crushes. :fatty:

I have a landline and it doesn't have dial tones or busy signals and it rings on my cell phone. Technology, man.

I still have the Salina time & temp in my phone contacts, since they just got transferred from one phone to the next

I have a question for Greg. Greg - if you want to get you a pie from pizza shuttle do you still call 776-5577 or is there just an app for that now or how does that all work? for reference not everyone had smart phones when i graduated they were still just first catching on so the word "app" kind of had a different meaning back then thanks for everything greg let's roll
-
also remember when a huge selling point for cell phones was how many (or few) long distance minutes were included with your plan? i almost can't even wrap my mind around the concept of long distance or collect calls.
Moreover, before everyone had cell phones there were those commercials that would make fun of you for dialing 0 to make a collect call, they would be like dial 10-10-321 or 10-10-9000 idk there were a few companies out there

I remember hearing about my cousin running up a huge long distance phone bill when he lived at my grandparents house for a summer and he’d spend hours on the phone with his cross-country girlfriend. It was a major cautionary tale in our family!

you may also want to consider that I completed this crossword in a pre-internet-at-steve-dave's-house era. you had to know a lot about sports and sports memorabilia to finish the thing with 100% correctness and spelling. I believe I had to phone my grandfather (long distance) to get his input on a couple old timer questions. when you accomplish something of this magnitude at such a young age and are appropriately awarded for your work it just feels so good guys. I hope each of you get to experience a rush like that at some point in your pathetic lives.
-
they say smell is most closely tied to memory but i would say 10-10-220 youtube commercials are a close second because my goodness you guys wow
-
Truly an amazing ad campaign especially considering the crap product they were all selling.
I never even used any of those things and yet I felt weirdly loyal to 10-10-220. 10-10-321 could go eff itself for all I cared.

The certain thing I remember is planning to meet up with a group of friends and then just hoping everyone made it. There was no texting/calling on a cell phone to make sure last minute; you just show up at the meet up place and wait until everyone is there.
