also remember when a huge selling point for cell phones was how many (or few) long distance minutes were included with your plan? i almost can't even wrap my mind around the concept of long distance or collect calls.I remember hearing about my cousin running up a huge long distance phone bill when he lived at my grandparents house for a summer and he’d spend hours on the phone with his cross-country girlfriend. It was a major cautionary tale in our family!

maybe this goes in the maps thread (lol) but Meade is actually closer to Lubbock than it is to Lawrence. Manhattan only slightly closer than Lubbock (like 20-30 minute drive). Geography guys...incredible. Good luck to all you non-western kansans trying to wrap your mind around that one.

The certain thing I remember is planning to meet up with a group of friends and then just hoping everyone made it. There was no texting/calling on a cell phone to make sure last minute; you just show up at the meet up place and wait until everyone is there.
