I hope he wins the whole rough ridin' thing
-
Love Chris Beard.
Apparently, he has some skeletons in his closet perhaps (?). I've read that for some of the bigger jobs that have opened in the past he hasn't got out of the pre-interview background stuff.
Whatever the case is, I like him.
-
could see him not being an ass kisser when it comes to money people.

Interesting to hear. They keep linking him to Texas if they move on.
-
i appreciate him and his teams.
-
At this point, it really looks like Tech could actually win the national championship. That's rough ridin' insane and I love it.

I'm with you. I mean...they're a 3 seed, so it shouldn't feel so improbable, but it's Texas Tech, guys! Given what we know about TT bball history, this feels like VCU playing for the title. So happy for them, though. Really. Can't remember feeling such unadulterated joy for another team/fanbase.
-
It really sticks in your craw that oscar Weber recruited, and coached, a final four caliber team these last two years and was dealt a horrible unlucky blow two years in a row. I'm not pulling this stuff out of a hat. Chris Beard, who is now coaching in the championship game, said that Kansas State was a championship team. He was right. I've seen a lot of great basketball up close, in my day, and I posted that this Kansas State team possessed that kind of greatness when they had their full team on the court. I'm right about this. They had the same kind of great defense that has led Texas Tech to the championship game.
This final four caliber team lost their most efficient player, two years in a row, just as the tournament began. Many claimed Coach Weber would not win with his own players. These will not allow that luck plays a huge part in who wins this tournament. Kansas State was as good, when healthy, as any team in this final four. Kansas State is every bit as good as Virginia and Texas Tech. That's the truth. But Kansas State did not have the good fortune that these two teams have had. First of all, Texas Tech went into this tournament with a better seed ( a seed that should have gone to Kansas State) and better health. Virginia, for heavens sake, has just won two games by a near miraculous turn of events. Let that sink in. If you don't think luck has a big hand in who advances through this tournament, then, you're living in a different world. Virginia was beaten twice and twice came back from the dead through a series of unbelievable ball bounces and happenings that would never happen again. With three seconds left, and down two, Virginia player dribbles the ball off his foot right before half court, picks it up and starts dribbling again. Once he gets by his defender, the defender fouls him because they have a foul to give. With less than two seconds left, Virginia gets bailed out on a desperation heave at the buzzer by a foul on a three pointer. You can't make this stuff up two weeks in a row. Virginia was destined to make the championship game this year.
You would have us believe that Chris Beard is where he is because he is a better coach than Weber and Texas Tech is a better team that Kansas State. How can you believe this when Beard and Texas Tech had a chance to separate themselves from Weber and the Cats through an eighteen game round robin? Through this 18 game round robin, Kansas State finished ahead of Tech and was seeded higher in the conference tournament.
-
never had anything against texas tech. awesome if they can do it.

Beard had definitely done better recruiting than oscar.
-
He’s also going to put an unranked 3 star prospect into the first round of the draft as underclassman in back to back years.
-
I don’t know if Beard appreciates the celebrations in Lubbock last night
-
Let's enjoy this for Coach Beard and a fanbase that never saw it coming several years ago.
Dean couldn't stay on the floor, which isn't oscar's fault. Dean's body was going to react this way at whatever school he played with. Tech and UVA are proof that oscar style slow it down can win. Let me remind everyone that Doke going down for KU was HUGELY impactful on the conference race. What an epic conference race it would've been with KU at full strength and Dean healthy. But still, oscar needs to prove it a little more in the dance. And this Tech team is better than oscar's elite 8 squad, but that says more about Tech than any oscar deficiency.

There are reports that Chris Michael Beard - 49 was arrested by Austin PD at 4:18am this morning for assault.

Charged with 3rd degree felony. Wow.

Not a great 24 hours for former Texas Tech coaches
-
Charged with 3rd degree felony. Wow.
That can carry 2-10 years in jail if convicted. Texas might be looking for a new head coach.

Yeah, if what he is accused of is even remotely true then I suspect he will be fired for cause by the end of the week.

It's been a bad few weeks for strangling. :frown:

If they were already in the SEC they might have found a way to sweep this under a rug, or justify it in some way. :dunno:

Based on the rumored representation retained by Beard, how serious is it?

On December 12, 2022, at approximately 12:15 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) received a 9-1-1 call for a disturbance in the 1900 block of Vista Lane. The caller reported the disturbance was no longer ongoing and one of the individuals had left the house. APD officers responded and located a woman who stated she had been assaulted and strangled by Christopher Michael Beard.

Don't worry guys, "The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed." so nothing happened. Just move along... :Yuck:
-
If that was my girlfriend, as it was reported for Beard, and I didn't do that, I would pursue false allegation charges and I would sue the crap out of her. I'm going to assume that none of this will happen and that, to me, maybe unfairly, will speak volumes about his innocence or lack thereof.

It's not uncommon at all for a victim of domestic assault to ask for their assailant to not face any consequences.
-
At some point UT has to come out and say he's suspended and isn't coaching tonight right?

It’s actually the norm.

more often than not actually

NEW: The Statesman has obtained Chris Beard's arrest affidavit.
A woman told police Beard "choked me, threw me off the bed, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around, and going nuts."
She said the choking lasted for five seconds and impeded her breathing, police say.

The good news, Texas is a state that doesn't need cooperation from the complainant, if there was physical evidence, along with the 911 call, they'll still prosecute.

Never heard of this attorney or firm. I dunno?
FWIW, it has been rumored that Beard suffers from the same affliction as Scott Frost, and I tend to believe those rumors.

If literary history is any indication, Christopher “Piggy” Beard should be counting his lucky stars that he’s even still alive right now
-
it’s really a shitty deal for everyone involved. you hate to see someone like coach beard who is really at the zenith of his career, who has struggled with issues away from work, only to get to where he is, only to fall like this. unfortunately, I don’t think that this is the first time that he has put his hands on a woman so maybe it took him being where he is to bring light to his problem. he shouldn’t be coaching anyone until he resolves the myriad problems he has.
glad to know that his victim’s physical injuries aren’t too serious.
-
i'm not sure why people are tiptoeing around it, but what's beard's (and frost's) problem supposed to be? alcohol?

Shitty human beings.

dece house, great pool, shitty yard

The evidence of beard supposedly being a drunk is flimsy as hell. I'm not giving up beer either. When I'm really cooking, I might drink one every other night. The affidavit that kstater posted clearly says he was not drunk.
-

i don't remember the story exactly, but I thought Frost was hiding in the bathroom while a woman was getting abused, rather than being the abuser himself?

i think dal9 is talking about the rumors of Frost’s infidelity is what he has in common with Beard. The 3 year “engagement” does check out on this front.

They need to can his ass.

It's time to shave this beard
-
They need to can his ass.
I assume since they suspended him without pay that they are just waiting on the lawyers to dot i's, cross t's and charge unnecessary billable hours before they pull the trigger.
-
What’s worse, choking Neil Reid or choking your gal? Also, choke Neil Reid; end up at TTech, leave TTech, end up choking your gal?

In this case, those hours are necessary.

he could have been the Greatest Of All Time Ever, Eternally

They will call Tang, polar opposite of tough guy thug Beard.

Guess he has to go back to playing drums in Z.Z. Top now.

There is a fairly low bar for re-entry into the CBB coaching profession after sustaining "a personal stumble."

bet he got a text from Larry Eustachy saying "this too shall pass"

This particular bar is not one that a notable coach has had to clear. I'm certain he's done, at least with D1 basketball.

I suspect being an alum gives him some cover, but can't imagine rolling him out and expecting female fans to embrace the program. And then, there's going on the road was a known domestic abuser. Wifebeater T's will fill every student section.

The fact that this is evening being considered is just stupid.
It should be just female fans, males fans with an ounce of decency should want him gone too.
-
The lack of action or much of a statement at this point makes me think they'll keep him. They'll announce whatever punishment right around Christmas/New Years when people aren't paying much attention.
-
Texas keeping him would be surprising to me, but they are SEC now...
-
If the charges are factually accurate, how do you go into homes and tell a mom that you're the coach to watch over and guide their son?
Play for me, I was charged with felony domestic assault and I kept my 7 figure job.
-
Tell the mom his wife is a lying bitch. That's why he strangled her.
-
“Son I know you can play basketball, but how do you feel about breaking a man’s reading glasses?”
-
Play for me, I was charged with felony domestic assault and I kept my 7 figure job.
seems like a relatively straightforward bragging point. how many people can claim the same?

the word "charged" is a big time qualifier there

My guess is that the prenup just got tossed out or drastically changed.

No it doesn't, nor should it. Her regret doesn't change what he did. If she got charged with filling a false report, then they would be in a tough spot.

there’s a real reason why many law enforcement agencies have been required to make mandatory arrests for domestic violence incidents when there is probable cause that a crime was committed

Not that either, not in Texas, they don't require victim cooperation. If the physical evidence in that report is corroborated, he's cooked.

The real solution to all this is we should all learn to love each other
