Suppose Trump is forced to resign sometime this year and Pence becomes president. Does he automatically get the Republican nomination as incumbent?

That failed to happen four out of five times (!) with unelected presidents. All occurring in the mid 1800s.

I don’t think any amount of Republicans rolling over and presenting their soft underbellies for Trump could be considered “extraordinary” at this point.
