Title: TCU game
Post by: stunted on January 17, 2019, 12:04:56 PM
are they any good? it looks like they don't have any quality wins, and now jaylen fisher is done there (i think we should pick him up as revenge for taking delton). they always worry me for some reason, i felt better about ou on the road. they're sneaky.

TCU is a dangerous team for sure. I love watching Alex Robinson play. He's one of my favorite players to watch in the country.

I hate Robinson. He's one of those try hard guys I should respect but don't because he reminds me of that guy in high school that is just ok, but loves to draw charges, but too much and flops too often, and tries really hard at defense and stuff, but like can't shoot really, but boy does he hustle. It's not rational. But I hate him anyway.

Toads have lots of dudes who can shoot but not sure how they handle meow's muscle.  Cats should get this one by 8 or so.  Jamie will be bonkers.  He's worse than Oscar.  Jamie thinks he's important.  Oscar's humble.

I get that Mike is essentially a freshman, as far as games played, but crap he played scared today. That TCU mini run inside the under 8 timeout, with the starters out, was almost exclusively because Mike refused to do anything offensively.

when wade, sneed and brown all refuse to even look at the basket when they catch the ball in the middle of the lane so we can reverse the ball 3 more times only to end up with a worse shot it is hard for me to blame McG for playing tentative

Dean and Barry were sitting on the bench in the sequence I mentioned. X moved the ball well and got Mike 3 open looks and he didn't even look at the rim.

offense visually looked good to me. good passes, only 7 to's, lots of good looks. just poor 3 point shooting and slow pace is the reason for only 65 points.

to be tied for first now after having a terrible first 14.5 games, this team is trending up hard. hottest team in the conference now, and if they keep playing like this, the best team in the conference.

Just yankin’ chain. I don’t think Weber is perfect. Great at scheming and getting maximum effort but only average at recruiting. Thank God we didn’t hire another Tanned Tom. Don’t hate cuz Illinois fired him, their alums and admins need to be on meds. Place is f’ed up.

Yep his offense is very very bad IMO. This season's success is based on an average Big 12 class playing for four years

give oscar and his staff credit though. they're above average in player development, great at coaching defense, and they get maximum effort out of the players, at least in games that matter.

he'll probably lose his job in the next few years but he's done a great job with the current group of upperclassmen.
Title: Re: TCU game

I think SNW, McGuirl, Carti,Dejuan Gordon, and Goodnews are a very solid backcourt for next year but he’s completely whiffed on any decent bigs.

He won't lose his job ever. If he continues to have average classes with low attrition he'll have enough NCAA lock seasons to stay here indefinitely.

Side note, his ability to keep all his best recruits since Foster from transferring is pretty important

i still think he'd need to win 20 games almost every year. we canned snyder's ass after 5-7, only a year removed from 9-4 and 8-5. though age played a big part.

last year diarra and mcguirl looked like they had potential but they're the same/worse than last year. it'll be interesting to see how they do once they're full-time starters and have more responsibility. our 3 young bigs have been disappointing. i should revise what i've said about player development, until recently it seems to have been pretty good.

He's had one defense finish better than 5th in the Big 12 in conference games. So yeah I'd say it's more about experience than improved strategy. IMO his defenses overhelp way too much and give up too many easy threes against decent teams.

Gotta give something up, they overplay lanes and help aggressively, you beat that by moving the ball quickly and any quick, effective offense will carve up any good defense. If we had more length we wouldn't give up as many 3s.
