I know there are a few mentions of this in some other threads, but I am curious what/how/when you guys cook with these things. I just received one as a gift (Bella pro series 6 qt), and don't know anything about them. People seem to love them tho. I need some ideas.

I don't get why people love them so much. (We have one)

Hmmmmm, maybe I will give it a shot. But, I am still against using a second rough ridin' appliance for this meal.

I make beans in ours a lot. throw in some bacon on "saute" until it's basically done, then throw in a chopped onion, then throw a bag of dry pinto beans, stock, cumin, some chopped up chipotles in adobo. they come out great and are far superior than canned beans.
here is a similar method/recipe that would probably be great and has measurements of stuff

Honestly, not much of a time savings by the time you brown meat. However, I still use it. I've cooked several of these recipes.

I also do this one. I used to do this same basic recipe in the oven and it takes all day. this is not quite that good but the time savings is worth it. fish sauce is key. also I add a bunch of red pepper flake.

I also blend the tomatoes instead of crushing them. I don't like it chunky.

I use these because they are cheap AF at costco and are great. good tomatos are very important.

I make a lot of roasts in mine, went from 8+ in a crock pot to about 1 hour in the insta pot.

I have a really elite stew recipe that I'm going to try to convert to instant pot.

Stews, beans, and roasts seem to be the timesavers in the pressure cooker.

Cooked chicken breasts in it tonight. Dumped a can of enchilada sauce and some spices on there. 20 minutes on high. Shredded them and put them back in the juice with a can of black beans. Cheese and sour cream on the side. Delish.
-
I use mine for stews, chili, beans, rice, tomato sauce. I use the same recipes that SD linked above for pasta sauce (although if I have time, I will still do the long oven cook from time to time.) Recently made 3 liters of chicken stock in about an hour from smoked chicken carcasses.

So, how is it?

We liked it! I liked it more than my wife. The pork was definitely very tender, and I liked the flavor a lot.

Another pressure cooker success story!

We got one a week ago.. it’s still in the box. Is this going to be awesome or just take up space? Should I toss out my trusty crockpot

I went super simple tonight, and just dumped in two frozen chicken breasts, some peppers, and jar of pre-made chicken tikka masala sauce. Pretty good, and very easy.
-
I read that as two dozen chicken breasts. First thought. How big is this pressure cooker? Second thought. How big is this family?

We make a great Jambalaya with ours. This isn't the exact recipe, but pretty close. Even my picky kids like it, and the spiciness can be adjusted by the amount of creole seasoning you use.

I made a ton of it. will be eating all week. I like it a lot and will make it again. 2 onions, 8 cloves garlic, 3 peppers, 2 celery stalks, two hot smoked sausage round deals (previous five ingredients all chopped up like you would expect, sausage like 1/2 inch rounds), 2 lbs of small dry red beans, two containers of chicken stock, cajun seasoning, pepper, about 50 shakes of crystal hot sauce, threw in some other random off schedule spices but don't remember what. saute the first 5 ingredients in order with some canola oil on the saute setting, then add the rest and set it on high for 45 minutes and let the pressure release on its own. we have the jumbo (8 qt?) instant pot and the above was about maximum what it could hold.
-
Had some pretty good short ribs and mashed potatoes done in the instant pot last night. Making ham and beans this weekend.

there's a lady from meade on facebook who is selling CBD oil for horses to take for like horse problems or something. the thing is, she's super into horses and rodeos and crap so I think it's legitimately for her horses and to sell to other people for their horses. she always posts stuff like, "does your rodeo barrel horse get anxious before a rodeo or some crap? how about a giant dose of CBD?"

OK, what about air fryers? Who has one, and which is it? Tons of people have been telling me they love these things. I very much like potatoes, and I am trying to watch my figure and like to make "oven fries" (sliced up potatoes baked in the oven). Word is that these air fryer contraptions are better for that kind of operation.

Hot garbage. It’s a convection oven, not a fryer. Don’t be an enemy of quality.
-
it's like when those air popcorn makers became big when we were tiny little babies pete. that popcorn was trash.
-
We actually have an air fryer as well. Love it. I can do 2 large boneless/skinless chicken breasts in about 12 minutes, and they are juicy as hell, with enough browning of the meat for that "seared" flavor.
No, its not the same as tossing it in a pan with oil, or even a cast iron pan. But if you want to eat healthier, with fewer additives (grease, oil, etc) then they can totally be worth it. It's really a matter of what you want from your food.

Threw in some frozen chicken pieces, a can of red enchilada sauce, and a can of mild green chilies this afternoon. Fifteen minutes on high. Five minute slow release. Shredded the chicken in a bowl. Dropped in a couple handfuls of cheese. Then half a cup of chicken in each tortilla shell. Put some sour cream in the leftover broth. Brought it to a simmer. Then ladeled over the dish. Smother in cheese. Baked at 350F for twenty minutes. Sprinkle with chili chowder and red pepper chowder.

cdubya, how is the air fryer on french fries. rated on taste, ease of use and ease of cleaning.
Taste - 4/5
Ease of use -5/5
Cleaning - n/a I don't clean after every use
Pro tip - spray just a bit of oil on a bowl of potatoes and toss them prior to frying. Gives them the extra "fried" crisp you want.

Spinach and garlic parmesan chicken with creamy mushroom sauce tonight. Every step (besides slicing, duh) done in the InstaPot. ~20 mins total cook time. One bowl to chill cream and seasoning in fridge while chicken cooked halfway. 9/10 flavor, could use a little sear on the chicken.
3/10 pic because starving, smelled too good to "pretty up" plate for a pic. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190114/c79a007f39a6f73cca5cafa897eb53c4.jpg)

I am going to copy that recipe, but without spinach.
I did chicken the other day with garlic and herb lowery's premed marinade, and then threw in a bunch of whole mushrooms. It was fantastic.
On your chicken, did you thaw it first?
-
Did you do your usual slices? I love cookie sheet potato sides with some Lawry's.
Usual slices would be very good in an air fryer. Wedges would be good too, IMO.

Any chance you might try some fish? Would love to know how these air fryers handle a nice fish filet.

Fish is great in the air fryer, IMO.
Strong word of advice, though. Clean VERY thoroughly after that type of meal. Otherwise any and all the next dozen meals will taste/smell off.

Just made chili today. Recipe my dad taught me a long time ago
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion
2 cans chili beans
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 can Rotel
Chili chowder
Brown meat and diced onions. When down, dump all the other stuff in the pot. Season as desired. Set to crockpot high for two hours. Stir occasionally.
I love the chili in the instapot. One pot cooking rocks.

new recipe for trashcanning my body and my families bodies via instant pot:
1 package of these bad boys on the bottom of the pot. saute until a couple sides are brown
(https://www.kroger.com/product/images/large/front/0007024717986)
break one package of spaghetti in half and layer it over the balls. try to keep it from falling down or it'll stick to the bottom.
top with one container of bone broth. I use this from Costco of course.
top that with two jars of sauce. I use a spicy marinara or arrabiata (pretty sure this just means spicy marinara but fancy).
now add one sauce jar full of water over it all. then sprinkle with some onion and garlic chowder.
Set that bad boy for 15 minutes and then quick release pressure. it'll look like it's too wet when you open it but stir it up a bit and let it sit a bit and it'll be good for sure.
cover with fresh parm reg of course
bone apple tea

Not homemade. I usually buy tortellini per the recipe but subbed raviolis this round.
