Other players need to perform and separate from him. So far it's not happening.
Disagree, the second Diarra and McGuirl came into the game we immediately started seeing the offense move the ball and create open shots. Nobody is hitting, but the shots were open. All guarded jumpers when Stokes was in.

Haven't had a chance to watch the first 2 games but are we as bad as the scores make us seem? I meam 2 pud teams and we barely squeak them out? Was hoping for some relief from football... guess I am going to have to find it somewhere else.
Cats were firmly in control of game one the whole game. Was never a doubt. Opponent slowed game down. Cats shot subpar.
Cats dominated every non-shooting facet of game two, but terrible shooting made it a bit worrisome. Offense was pretty garbage due to crappy effort to penetrate zone after clanking our way into Denver going zone.
Not too concerned. A whole team doesn't forget how to shoot.

Every time I watch one of these crap fest games, I have to remind myself we beat Oregon this year in a scrimmage. Barry was out for a game, Sneed was out for a game, etc. I think they're trying to find a rhythm with all of these guys and Stokes is not helping with it. Also, Wade has a ways to go to get back to where he was before the injury.

Denver might be a decent and make a move this year. Rodney Billups seems to be a good coach, they play solid defense and rebound, and shoot it a bunch. He's got some nice returners and added a couple grad transfers (one was a kid that played for Creighton against us, another from CU that is hurt). I wouldn't be surprised to see them contend for the Summitt. Plus they mix pack line man and zone and make you be patient, we weren't.
As for us, I don't think all our guards suck, but they have so far. Kam hasn't been good, but Carti and McGuirl haven't been good either. X looked good early, then struggled. Every one is concerned with Dean, but he's "just" averaging 13.5 and 12 with a solid Orting. Mak has been quiet, but good too. Trice is Trice and will help us, and Barry has done Barry things. Stockard has the amazing ability to play over 10 minutes and produce nearly zero stats. I wonder what Love and Shadd are doing. We won't be a 45% FT team and 18% 3PT team for the year. Defensively, we've been really good. I'm not real worried about these 2 games, let's see how we do against Penn/N Iowa and then hopefully Mizzou in this tournament.

Fair or not, good defense is just an expectation at this point for Cats teams, so I’m probably never going to focus on it until we play an offense that has put up gaudy numbers this season. Rebounding is encouraging but we’ll see what it looks like against better teams.

oscar seems to hold Stokes in much higher regard than your average Joe. I've never been entirely sure why. Diarra absolutely put this team on his back when Kam went down last year, not sure why that wasn't rewarded more handsomely. But, Diarra will be second fiddle as long as Kam is healthy, doesn't matter how either of them play.

Any game Kam can shoot 50% or better on eFG and have 0-1 TOs is a big positive.

Stokes is capable of having good games, wetwillie. He also has games like Penn where Oscar has to have Barry run point because Stokes pounded the ball at the top of the key for an entire half and we looked like dogshit. The reason that some people prefer Barry or Cartier at point is that they keep the ball moving, even if they're not shooting well that night. If Stokes isn't shooting well, he stops moving the ball, and the offense becomes about getting him on track, which should not be the ultimate goal.

We looked like crap because we did not make open shots. We made those same shots against Missouri and the offense looked good.
In my opinion this offense does not have a point guard in the half court. This offense is four guys outside who play positionless and one guy inside. Any one of the four outside can create offense or get the benefit of an open shot from one of the other players creating. When scoring is hard to come by, Brown and Claws are the best creators and finishers and are goiing to get the ball.

Solid comparo. Wojo's built a pretty good offense there and they like to shoot a lot of 3s. 2 guards do most of the work, Howard and Hauser. Wojo's teams aren't known for great defense though, but this team has been okay, though they have 4 games vs >200 kenpom teams. I think the Cats win. Dean, Barry, Kam, and X are 12-11 on the road the last 2 years, I expect that to improve this year.

I think this is an accurate take. Our D and Rebounding coming into today was definitely better as a tandem than end of last year
Offense has some issues and our guards off the bench have been pretty bad for this OOC schedule.

We have two preseason 1st team all big 12 players and the preseason player of the year. Plus Xavier Sneed and probably the best juco PF on the market last spring in Trice. Will be interesting to see what oscar tries to get this team to play better but they are complete ass right now.

It's been obvious since the start of the season the team was in trouble and Oscar know crap all what to do about it.
it really has. how many decent stretches of offensive basketball have we played this season. mizzou? the 2nd half against eku? we have been bad all year, leading up today's staggeringly awful performance.

there is zero talent in the front court. none
we play 4 guards who all can't shoot
we have no strengths all weaknesses
a win against creighton last yr and a win against kentucky made everyone forget what this team really is
We have two preseason 1st team all big 12 players and the preseason player of the year. Plus Xavier Sneed and probably the best juco PF on the market last spring in Trice. Will be interesting to see what oscar tries to get this team to play better but they are complete ass right now.
we all know Wade was/is not deserving of that distinction. He wouldn't even be a starter at KU
Brown has always been overrated because of a handful of good games where the ball actually goes in. but those are not very common
Trice is fine but again not really a piece that was needed as much as an elite scorer
Trice may be example of why most schools don't recruit juco unless they are a completely freaky scorer

Well, that was an interesting ending.
lol all the announcers: “that was an obvious foul at the end, it would have been a travesty if Tulsa loses because of that.”
Well there is a team that actually did lose as a result of the no call.
Not that any KSU fan can blame the refs here. Unless Tulsa installed some state fair rims before this game, it was a miracle Tulsa shot bad enough to keep us in that game.
I thought it was really bizarre that they thought tulsa was clearly the aggrieved party as a result of the no call(s)

It didn't occur to me until just now, but today would've been a game on actual TV to try to watch at the bar and poll uw fans.
The FSKC/ESPN3 games have been showing up on my TV somehow w/o needing to stream them so if you want to watch one of those at my place, we can.

Yes, and specifically Offense sucks. It sucked more than usual today. Tulsa got 47 pts on 65 Possessions and won. Disgusting

Dean had 6 3PA vs Mizzou. The other 7 games, he's played 211 minutes and has only attempted 7. 44% last year from deep and he isn't even looking for 3s.

It's hard to be that bad on offense.
I didn’t get to watch but the box score is hilarious. We shot 6 FT’s? How does Wade score 2 points in 22 minutes of floor time?!
He got 2 early fouls and sat the last 15 minutes of the 1st half. In the 5 minutes on the court he managed to go 0-3 with 2 TOs. He got 1 shot blocked inside, he got the rebound, went up and he was under the goal and his shot was off the bottom of the backboard.
2nd half, he played 17 minutes. We had 30 FGA. Passive Dean shot 3 times.

Our seniors kind of suck right now.You're too kind. It appears our senior guards have forgotten how to play the game. Dean has regressed. It's so frustrating. I think they were overconfident and let their ranking (and 5 - 0 start) go to their heads. There are some nice players (when they play well) on this team. When they ALL slump at the same time, though, they are painful to watch.

Voters definitely weigh tournament results way too much, but it wasn’t crazy at all to have KSU ranked at the start of this season. We returned pretty much everyone from a team that earned an 8 seed and was already close to cracking the top 25 at the end of last season.

And by this point the 10-11 team had wins over Virginia Tech, Gonzaga, and Washington State. All of those were better than Missouri, which is our best win this year.

My memory of the frank regime is nearly wiped out, did the 10-11 squad suffer similar regression? I know Jake went to a more exclusive pg role and it wasn’t smooth.

How about 'Cuse last night pulling the upset on the road against Duke? Syracuse is an enigma. Lose to Georgia Tech on Saturday and then upset Duke.
