I can see using one if I was traveling with my whole family or some crap and needed a manse though. Otherwise I like being cleaned up after, on-site amenities, and not needing to pack my own soap and stuff. Weird to crack down on them this aggressively though.

Yes. Protectionism is an example of a free market force that benefits specific industries but harms consumers, often under the guise of protecting consumers.

A lot of this.  Also hotels getting pissed because additional occupancy taxes tack 10% onto their rates yet most AirBNBs don't (although cities are cracking down on that).

If I lived in a condo building, I wouldn't want a bunch of transient people having access to my building all the time.  Seems reasonable to crack down on it if the HOAs or whatever don't allow it.
