ku looked good tonight against michigan state but duke looks infinitely better than anybody
they’re handling #2 kentucky
zion is v good
all 4 of these teams are much better than the ksu roll to purples
-
trice > zion
-
Hope K-state is not in the same region as Duke. They look rough ridin' unstoppable.
-
It was 1 game, but interesting how Grimes/Dotson played 63 minutes and Moore/Garrett/CJ Lawson only got 35 minutes. But the 2 Frosh guards looked much better than any of the other 3.
Duke spend almost the entire game at 1.40 PPP or higher. They had 32 pts with 11:00 in the 1st half. 59 pts by halftime. 85 pts with 13:00 left, and 102 with 7:00 left. Finished with 118.
-
Baylor lost last night and TCU is down tonight :frown:
-
TCU rallied, won by 5. They were playing without Fisher & Noi.
Florida St just routed Fla last night. Led by 30 in the 2nd half, won by 21. Somewhat of a surprise
-
Iowa State beat Mizzou 76-59 in Ames. Did it without Wiggington. Virginia transfer Shayok led them with 20
Texas won in OT over Arkansas 73-71. Roach hit game tying 3 with 1.1 seconds in regulation
-
This Buffalo/WVU game is making me feel better about the Cats’ lackluster win.
-
Damn this has the feel of like a tourney game.

Hoosiers kicking Marquette’s ass early

Impressive 1st half. I gotta watch about 14-15 minutes of it
-
Western Kentucky vs WVU is so bad. WVU should be winning by 20. Quit rough ridin' shooting 3’s and work an offense. So bad.
-
After TCU's loss, it looks like the us and KU will be the only ranked Big 12 teams at this point in the season. When is the last time that has happened? Texas and Iowa State are receiving votes. Big 12 looks awful.
-
I'm sure Tech will be ranked. I wouldn't freak out just yet.
-
Marquette played KU really well for a half. Led 47-38. Second half they were pretty bad according to the stats. I only watched some of the 1st half.
Marquette 21 pts in 33 Possession after the break.
31% eFG & 24 TO%. 4-5 FTs
-
Should be a good early challenge.
-
You guys dodged a bullet on Underwood. Be careful what you wish for. :bang:

Wish you could watch this Illinois-Mississippi Valley State game right now. It's nothing if not a beautiful display of basketball in every facet of the game.
-
i don’t like chris mack coaching louisville but he’s about to beat izzo so why the heck not!
-
Neither Louisville or Michigan State is very good.
-
both are light years better than we are, i’d say both teams are legitimate top 20

Only nerds and astrologists measure things in light years.

This UK-Seton Hall game is wild
Confirmed wild. Nice win for the pirates.
-
Seton Hall was 5-3 going into the game. Perhaps UK was vastly overrated to begin the year, and hence Duke was and is. Then again, KU is overrated and would have probably dropped 1 or 2 if Vick hadn't woken up one morning and decided to be Steph Curry.

Like a Steph Curry / Kareem Hunt combo guard!

Justin Smith threw down one of the nastiest posterizing dunks I’ve seen in a college game (IU vs Louisville)

Do they really make you watch all the IU games? :frown:

Wichita St. is 4-4.

Mrs. 8mp is an IU grad. They are pretty fun most of the time. Usually have an NBA player or two on the roster. 2 lottery picks in 5 years, probably another this year.

Auburn is super fun to watch.

Wichita St. is 4-4.
This might be the year we can hire Gregg.

WACKY! :excited:

Penn beat Villanova and handled then relatively easily, although they tried to blow a decent lead.

Big win, friend.

You can't imagine how bad Brad Underwood is. See that IL-Mizzou game last night? Yikes. Weber > Underwood.

She might be wrong to air that sort of thing in public, but she is absolutely correct. BU is playing his walkon son in the first half of games over kids who really need game experience. This season is another disaster and playing to conceivably win games over getting a kid like Alan Griffin PT seems a flawed strategy. On top of this, Griffin's younger brother is a big time high school prospect. Any chance BU had of getting him to follow his brother is shot now.
-
The brad thing is weird. I think the Illinois program is just a big vortex of crap.
It absolutely is. So many problems at UI. But BU is set on playing his style in the Big Ten and it just won't work. Not against legitimate athletes and coaches. It might win you 53 out of 54 games in Podunk Conference but not at the high major level. It's no coincidence his one OK St. team turned things around immediately after he scrapped his defense and went with a more traditional style.
-
Update: Underwood lost at home today to Florida Atlantic. FAU was without two of its best players. You guys dodged a bullet.
-
Well, that’s good I guess

They kinda blew up the premise within the story. They are comparing his number of visits to those of DePaul and Chicago State, I would sincerely hope they are at roughly a billion more Chicago games than Illinois. They also mentioned his surgery recovery and the fact that he needs to spend more time with his shitty team. The much more interesting story is one within the one linked about why Illinois didn't offer the chubby baller at flood aggie.

Good news, guys: Underwood has won 4 of 5. Bad news, guys: likely to lose 3 of next 4.
But the team has improved, so at least all hope isn't lost. UI should be a decent team next season, unless Ayo declares. Seems to be about 50/50 right now.

Houston’s shorts are the shortest! Also look long and athletic.

Rooting for Brad.
Frank too.
-
Undies just won at Ohio State. That's 4 in a row, 5 of 6, 6 of 9. Maybe he's not absolutely horrendous after all.
-
Both seem to have improved quite a bit. Their non-con slates were nasty. Better scheduling and they could've been hanging around the bubble.
-
brad might be doing better, but imagine if they had a coach like oscar weber
-
Brad's turn around has been impressive. He's pushing the right buttons right now, but he'll have to win the Big 10 tournament to make any postseason. Frank is probably in the same boat, I have no idea how he went to Stillwater and lost. Perhaps similar to us in College Station I guess.

I think it would be better for us to win outright if Kansas beats Tech. If Tech wins I become bullish on them winning out. I don't love KU going on their two game road streak unscathed.

@ISU could be nasty to end the year for Tech. If Iowa State has a chance to impact the conference race in that one, they will be going crazy there.
-
Here, I guess? Roach out indefinitely. Probably doesn't affect the race much. Texas has @Tech left but doubtful they were winning that one

KU resting up for Monday.
Late in the first half I went to pick up dinner and one guy on the KU radio crew was openly suggesting they should tank the rest of the game to save their energy. That was immediately followed by the other guy whining about KU having to play a Saturday night game before a Monday game.

The streak is statistically amazing, but I think it’s fair to say that KU wouldn’t have been able to accomplish it in any of the other major conferences. On the flip side, maybe only Duke would have been able to accomplish it here in the Big 12 if they switched with KU. So it’s a big deal, but needs a little perspective. You would think a team that won a major conference championship 14 years straight would have far more success in the NCAAs, but that’s not what’s happened. Instead, they have been consistently good enough to stay slightly ahead of the bumper cars that is the rest of this conference.
And looking at the remainder of K-State’s and Tech’s schedules, I still think it’s about even money for KU to snag a share of a 15th.
-
Who has more final four appearances in that 14 year stretch? I bet you can count them on one hand and not use your thumb.
-

If KU had switched places with Kentucky 14 years ago, I bet KU could have had that streak in the SEC. The SEC has not been as good as the Big 12 over that stretch. Kentucky, and Calipari, are more one-and-done than KU. Self is a better program builder than Calipari. Calipari is a shepherd of top talent, until that talent is ready to move to the next level. Self attempts to bend them to his will, and the better of the program.
-
Ppl say the big 12 sucks because of this streak and I have always called bullshit on this. Last year we had 4 teams in the sweet 16 and 3 in the elite 8. Not trying to be Iowa State here, but it’s very apparent that over the years KU gets most 50/50 calls in this conference. They’re the only blue blood in the big 12, so it helped along the way.

We are the only P5 league that doesn’t have multiple teams with a national championship so I think an element of truth exists that relative to the other conferences we do suck. When’s the last time a non KU team was a legitimate threat to win it all? I suppose top to bottom we are very competitive but our elite is not on par with other conferences elite.
-

Oklahoma was in the final four in 2016 :dunno:
-
That’s true, they got beat by 40 so it’s hard for me to count them as a threat to win a title but maybe that’s not fair. I suppose we have had a handful of 2 seeds that were probably good enough to win it all. I think the 2003 tournament with Texas led by TJ Ford was the last time someone else got a 1 seed.
-
So to be clear, I actually think it’s the overall parity and quality of the B12 that has contributed to the streak. The B12 consistently produces at least 4 or 5 good-not-great teams every single year, and KU is consistently just a bit better and more consistent than the others. They stay above the fray while the other teams hand each other losses. So the I think the streak is a bit of a fluke, but not in a way that should detract from KU’s accomplishment.
This year, KU simply isn’t better than Tech, or K-State while playing on the road. If the streak is going to end, this is the year.
-
Who has more final four appearances in that 14 year stretch? I bet you can count them on one hand and not use your thumb.
I think KU has one one of the highest failure rates of reaching the FF as a one seed in the past several decades. Of course, they garner a lot of 1 seeds coming out of the B12 - which is itself a great accomplishment.
-

I think a 2 seed making the final four should be considered a threat to win. But you do whatever fits your narrative
-

That could be. Getting a 1 seed is really hard and KU has got one 8 times under self which is absurd.
-
So I was kinda right - kinda wrong. I looked back at the NCAA tourney performance of 4 teams: Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, and North Carolina, over the past 14 years (the streak). I recorded each team’s seed, the round they made it to, and gave them a score based upon whether they played below, to, or above seed. So if you’re a 1 seed and reach the FF, you played to seed and get a 0. If you’re a 1 seed and win the championship that’s 2 games above seed so you get a 2. If you’re a 2 seed and you lose in the round of 64, that’s 3 games below seed for a -3.
Here’s the results:
Kentucky has the lowest average seed of 4.5833, but also averaged an impressive .5833 against the seed.
North Carolina has an average seed of 2.4615, and averaged .1538 against the seed.
Kansas has the highest average seed of 1.7143, but averaged -0.7857 against the seed.
Duke has an average seed of 2.1429, but averaged -0.9286 against the seed.
So Duke actually underperforms a bit more than KU in the tourney despite starting with about the same seed. Kentucky generally starts with a much worse seed but far outperforms it, whereas North Carolina has the most consistent record in terms of high average seed while slightly outperforming it.

The one thing that helped KU quite a bit for the first half of the streak was the unbalanced schedule.
-
Agreed
-
The one thing that helped KU quite a bit for the first half of the streak was the unbalanced schedule.
Yep, in one of those years they lost to Texas, but shared the title with them. The "shared" title has been a big help too.

TCU better at least make this close. I don’t wanna go on the road again to play a decent team coming off a blowout two days earlier.
-
crap good point

I have never liked Bill Walton, but after listening to the game he's calling tonight I think there's a screw loose.
-
He’s like this every game
-
No, I think he's losing it.
-
I mean, the dude is nuts and always has been. What specifically is different about tonight?
-
No, I think he's losing it.
Is it a shtick? The PBP guy had no words at one point and a WtF look on his face while Bill rambled during game action.

Marquette/Seaton Hall has all the drama

We are the only P5 league that doesn’t have multiple teams with a national championship so I think an element of truth exists that relative to the other conferences we do suck. When’s the last time a non KU team was a legitimate threat to win it all? I suppose top to bottom we are very competitive but our elite is not on par with other conferences elite.
2018 Texas Tech
Goddamn this guy is good

It’s pretty easy not to overreact after a loss in the tourney, you guys are just bread for it. Nice call, MIR. 2019 cats- tied for first in the league that snapped KU’s streak and won it all.

MIR was talking about last year’s E8 team, and Tech did not snap KU’s title streak by tying the Cats.
Still very excited for the championship game. I almost never end up watching these things.

Would be fun if the Big12 can pull off the tournament trifecta(UT, Baylor, Tech)

If it makes you feel better, I had them in the final four this year. I thought Duke would beat them again.
