I mean getting killed by 16 points as a one seed in the final 4 has to be close to a record right? I'm curious not because I'm ashamed they let the state of Kansas and Big 12 down by a joke of a showing but because I'm a huge trivia buff (love stump the chumps). I tried to look up but got bored quickly. All that came up was Nova breaking a record for 3's made and I didn't want to search any longer. Your help is appreciated. tia

No, I think Lon and OU own that record from a couple years ago. Villanova scored 1.52 pop in that game, "only" 1.34 yesterday vs KU. It was Self's worst defensive game at KU though.

I thought this initially too but they were both #2 seeds that year.
-
I mean overall in the final 4, yes, OU has the record, but not as a #1 seed.
-
I missed the #1 seed part. Not sure.

Thanks for clarification TBT. I'd be surprised if it's not a record. I mean how does a #1 seed get killed like that in the final 4?  (ftp://:lol: )
Thank god Villanova put the brakes when they did.

I think _33 expressed it the best on Twitter. They weren't even supposed to be there, so just getting there was a major accomplishment.

It's unfair that a less talented team can completely dominate a more talented team just cause they shoot good
-
Yeah it's nearly unthinkable that a team ranked preseason #4 would wind up as one of the last 4 teams playing. That puts Loyola's run to shame IMO.

Please tell me that they're not referencing the original rules that Naismith wrote? :sdeek: (ftp://:sdeek:)
Speaking of Naismith here's some trivia for you; He wasn't really a doctor and he died of syphilis.
-
Not from Lawrence and didn’t invent basketball
-
Since the expansion to 64 teams, I believe KUs loss is the 2nd worst loss by a 1 seed in the Final Four.
In 85' 1 seed Georgetown beat 1 seed St Johns 77-59.
Memphis best Ucla 78-63 in battle of 1 seeds in 2008.
-
eff YEA KU LOST!
-
felt p great at the bars last night and patting the ku bros on their backs and congratting them on a great season
-
last night’s embarrassing performance probably isn’t enough for them to disband their hoops program but I really think that it’s something for them to consider
-
Is there a site where you can easily see the craziest MOV/MOL by seeds in the tournament?
-
I don’t think self can handle coaching much longer physically. He looks like a walrus

Some of them believe that if Doke cones back, he should come off the bench next year.
Probably the same fans that were still bitching pre- game " I hope Graham doesn't foul out on a BS foul like he did in 2016 and cost us the game" or the " Nova couldn't have played better, we couldn't have played worse in 1st half". It's like they forgot those 2 first halves when OK St jumped all over them.
-
This focused on 1st round games, but even with just that info, it confirmed that KSU's 16-point loss to Loyola wasn't the worst tournament loss oat to an 11 seed.
While those teams have had success throughout the tournament, it was Pepperdine in the 2000 tournament who gave us the biggest first round upset by an 11 seed over a 6 seed. The Waves beat Indiana in a 20-point blowout, 77-57, in Bobby Knight’s last game as the Hoosiers’ coach.

6 teams ( 1 9-seed, 1 10-seed, 4 11- seeds) wore a road jersey in 1st rd and made it to the Final 4.
1 seed lost 4 times to these teams in Elite 8. Ku with biggest loss-
11 VCU 71-61 over Ku
11 G Mason 86-84 over Uconn
11 Lsu 59-57 over Kentucky
10 Syracuse 68-62 over Virginia
9 Wich St beat 2 Ohio St 70-66
-
KU beat UNC 84-66 in the 2008 National Semifinal. Both were #1 seeds IIRC, but I'm too lazy to look it up. :tsc:

I think that was the F4 that was all 1 seeds

Just confirms my theory that if you’re going to be an 8 seed or worse, an 11 is where you wanna be.

Since 85' -
7 seed =3-7 in Elite 8.
8 seed = 5-3 in the Elite 8
9 seed =1-3 in the Elite 8
10 seed = 1-7 in Elite 8
11 seed = 4-4 in Elite 8
7 seed = 10-17 in S16
8 seed = 8-5 in S16
9 seed = 4-3 in S16
10 seed = 8-16 in S16
11 seed = 8-14 in S16
* So 8/9 seeds don't make S16 as often but win 60% in S16 and 50% in E8. 7/10 seeds win 36% in S16 and 22% in E8. 11 seeds at 36% and 50%
*5 seeds - only 8 of 136 have made the Elite 8. They are 6-2 when doing so. And then 3-3 (F4) and 0-3 in title game.
* 9 seeds Sweet 16 wins doubled this year.
* 20 times a 12 seed, 6 times a 13 seed made Sweet 16. Mizzou as 12 seed in 2002 only one to win

Which is funny cause pretty much every team had to deal with that vs them. Was very nice to see them get bested at the only thing that got them as far as it did.
-
Not nearly as bad as when Houston was ranked #2, UCLA #1 and UCLA defeated UH by 32 points in Final Four semifinals.

Not to mention that it was a late 3 by Chalmers to tie the game against Memphis...without that they dont get their latest natty.

I'm not sure why I'm surprised, but I went over there and looked. Yep, they're actually suggesting moving or abolishing the line altogether, adjusting the dimensions of the box, and possibly changing other aspects of the game. The mental gymnastics...

Amazing the number of flukes that it took to win in 2008.
-
KU shouldn't have to adjust to the game, the game should adjust to them.

If Memphis was even respectable at shooting FTs down the stretch there wouldn't have been a Chalmers 3 to worry about, but that is neither here nor there.
-
Villanova now has the same number of nattys as KU. Some blue blood.
-
KU would go back to the peach basket if it meant they could be relevant in college basketball again. rough time for KU basketball/Nebraska football combo fans
-

They invented basketball so we could play it.

UConn's 4 Natty's with only 5 FFs says hi too.

It blows my mind some of these Ku fans that don't have a clue how everything works. I almost feel bad for the Ku ones that are well informed and knowledgeable.
1) Lots of talk that Cunliffe should transfer. After someone posts the " player has 5 years to play 4 years of his/her eligibility." A response was Cunliffe got minutes at Asu as Frosh, got minutes at Ku as Soph. He can transfer. Get minutes somewhere else as a Redshirt Jr and then play minutes as a Refshirt Sr
2) another person thought that one of their transfers, PG Moore, should transfer because he may not see the court with 2 5-star recruits and other returning backcourt players. Yeah.... He is sitting out this year, and wants to sit out next year too after a 2nd transfer. I think Moore might be their starting PG.
3) the talking point was 2018 Top 10 recruit Langford picking Ku, and that Ku is already 1 over on scholarship unless Newman or someone else leaves. Someone posts that their 3star recruit from KC area can just redshirt and then their scholarship coulnt will get back to even.

my kids (high schoolers, oldest is a senior) don't even remember the chalmers shot, and they're big basketball fans.
