. . . for Florida.

No doubt he's looking back on FBI/IRS U. and counting his $3 million dollar buyout . . . and then laughing a big belly laugh.

mangino tried to bring bigtime college football to lawrence, ks.  they didn't know how to handle it and excommunicated him asap.  it almost reads like romeo and juliet, such a tragic ending to what could have been a beautiful relationship.  sad that lew hates shakespeare but he has to listen to the people who fill his collection basket (conservative blue hairs who love their basketball).

At least he's leaving with his chins held high, knowing he tried to save them from themselves.

My favorite part of the story though-
"A previous version of this story incorrectly stated KU's Orange Bowl opponent."
Really?  How can you get that wrong?

Mangino was the guy to take KU football from the depths of D-1 to a solid football program.  However, it was obvious after last season that he would never do any better than the '08 Orange Bowl season.  His refusal to implement a power running attack cost KU multiple football games.  I wish Mangino nothing but the best, but to act like KU can't or won't do better is ridiculous.  I'd imagine plenty of KU fans said the same thing about K-State football back when you guys were the worst D-1 football program in the country.

Beems, thoughts on Gill though?  Seems like, if they could have done better like you suggest, they didn't try to very hard.  Most KU fans I know have already given up on this joker.

Seriously?  Sports Illustrated graded the recent coaching hires, and they gave Gill an 'A.'  The only guy who got a higher grade was Charlie Strong at Louisville.  Gill's got recruiting ties to the Big 12, he has experience rebuilding a football program, and he brought in a hell of a coaching staff.  You guys can look at his record at Buffalo and scoff all you want, but the bottom line is that Buffalo was the worst D-1 football program in the country before he took over.  KU had options, but Gill was the perfect fit.  There simply weren't that many other coaches out there with recruiting ties to the Big 12 and a history of building a football program.

Kansas (Turner Gill, Buffalo head coach): A

The former Nebraska star returns to the Big 12, where he will now go head-to-head with the Huskers. What Gill pulled off at Buffalo -- taking over the worst program in Division I-A, bar none, and leading it to a MAC title three years later -- is one of the most remarkable accomplishments of the past decade. And his ties to the Heartland should help elevate Kansas' recruiting profile.

Props to Tech for landing a high-profile name to help ease the sting of the Leach fiasco. Tuberville's recruiting ability and defensive prowess could help the Red Raiders reach the next level. My one concern: Tubs seems intent on maintaining an "Air Raid" offense, with which he has little experience and will be working with unfamiliar assistants -- much like his downfall at Auburn.

I hope you are right and ultimately I am wrong, but EVERYTHING that Gill does reeks of an odd mix of the worst combination of Terry Allen and Ron Prince.  I would give my left arm to have Tuberville or Harbaugh.

Harbaugh laughed himself hoarse at the offer.  I guess Tuberville who was sitting around unemployed was interested.  Though he was likely just trying to get his name mentioned in order to get an offer at a real program.

ku . . . went from the national assistant coach of the year wearing a national title ring and the national coach of the year . . . to a guy with a losing record who managed to pull out one fluke season in the MAC.   Plus calling Buffalo the worst program in D1 is an extremely relative and highly subjective term given their short D1 history.  Meanwhile ku ignores a guy who has ties all over SEC recruiting territory and arguably should have played for a national title a few years back after going undefeated in the SEC.

Perhaps it's the fact that you people have no ability to show any sort of objectivity when it comes to KU.  You're knee deep in delusion, 24/7.  It's just amazing to me that an objective source looks at the Gill hire and gives it an 'A,' while powerespect nation does everything in its power to diminish the hire.  Honestly, this crap is so predictable and repetitive that I have no reason to even try anymore.  You guys are a lost cause.

It's not comparing apples to apples here, Daris.  5-7 at Buffalo is an improvement over winning five games in six years.  Auburn has higher expectations than that.

Don't be so obtuse.  You're better than that.  It's much harder to recruit at Buffalo than it is at Auburn.  Also, the MAC is no slouch.  They have some great coaches in that conference... look no further than guys like Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly who have gone on to take jobs at Florida and Notre Dame.

ku just couldn't bring themselves to hire someone that someone else fired. plain and simple. that's why they went with gill over tt. i suppose they made the right choice if gill can compile an overall record that is comparable to or better than what tt did while he was at auburn. 85-40, that's the mark.

K-State hired an obscure "5th choice" assistant from Virginia, with no head coaching experience, and I barely said a peep.  In fact, I defended Prince in his first year when KU fans were saying he was in over his head.  You guys have done nothing but bash Gill since he was hired.

If i was KU AD Lew Perkins.  I would've chucked 2 million at Tubbs, with one and only 1 stipulation.  DON'T F#CK with the offense. you bring in any o-coordinator you want, you just leave that alone.
That was his undoing at Auburn (meddling with the offense), and the AD/President thought that Petrino would come if they fired Tubbs which obviously didn't happen.  But certainly not a fan of a would've been Harbaugh hire as well, that bastard is just waiting for Tubby Smith to get canned.

Of course i'm sitting at home drinking a PBR, so my opinion kind doesn't matter.... :dunno:

In the weeks prior to leaving Lowrents, rumor is that Mangino was volunteering as a substitute teacher at a middle school.  He had to be laughing his ass off at the sh1t that's hit the fan for Lew and the ku athletic dept.

wonder if the big man has dropped a few hints to the right people as to what is going on there??

Now that would be as right as rain.  Lew deserves what he's getting after his sliming of Mangino.  Hope Mangino has collected his $3+ million severance package, or if he has dropped a dime on Lew, made it hard enough to trace that the ku athletic dept can't renege on his buyout.
