Weber says he will sit down with Wade and discuss the topic after the season.
“He is going to be an NBA player, whether it is this next year or the year after, he is going to have a chance,” Weber said. “… It’s not just about going to the NBA, it’s about being ready to go to the NBA and being ready to stay in the NBA.”
-
He should test the waters and if he can get drafted in the 1st round he should absolutely consider going.
-
He should get graded out but I think he should probably come back unless he thinks the G-League will develop him better than K-State will.
-
Guys, if we keep this team together next year.... it will end up being one of the best teams K-State has ever had... maybe as amazing as the 2009-2010 team.... I hate Oscar, but damnit I just want something good for a change!
-
He definitely seems skilled enough to go but I can't think of any similar players in the league off the top of my head. I've also never really followed the NBA draft. In a way he seems like a poor man's Beasley that's stuck between a 3 and a 4 and struggles to guard either.
-
The Wildcat Salute yuck meltdown will be lol

Myles Turner
-
he definitely has the offensive skill, it's just a question of who he can guard.

He should be adequate enough to guard fellow backup 4s.

Myles Turner
turner is a five...less skilled than wade, but longer and much better rim protector
-
maybe lauri markaanen is a better comparison...or maybe kuzma? mirotic?
-
Dean's game is actually pretty similar to the McMorris twins imo

I don't know about less skilled but definitely a better shot blocker. I was going to go with Jokic without the passing stuff but I didn't want to go white guy white guy.
Also someone earlier wondered if he's a 3/4 tweener, he's definitely an NBA 4.
-
He’s basically Gordon Hayward
-
He's the white larry bird
-
Dean's game is actually pretty similar to the McMorris twins imo
Yeah that's not a bad comparison
-
I wonder how accurate Wade's listed height and weight are because he looks much more frail than a guy like Kuzma who's listed at 6-9 220
-
his weight and height look right. it's just a shame he's got those short arms.
-
He doesn't look frail at all to me.
Also doing this exercise has led me to believe that comparing modern NBA power forwards might be the toughest position to compare, I don't know if any of these dudes are alike. Every one of them is a different combination of all of the sliders on 2K. They all have to be able to shoot the 3, dribble, rebound, pass, rim-run, hit midrange jumpers, and play with their backs to the basket for a possession or two.
-
i agree he's def a 4 in today's nba...
i don't see the morris comparison tho...wade is a better shooter but nowhere near as strong...for some reason i really hate the celtics morris' game too..
-
yeah, going down the list of nba pfs, it's not easy to find many good comparisons...
sabonis (not really)
lyles (maybe closest)
james johnson (not really)

Wade's nowhere near as strong as most NBA 4's. At least he doesn't look like it.

i watch a lot of turner and--other than his shooting--he is remarkably unskilled
-
Poor man's Brandon Ingram
-
He’s basically Gordon Hayward the amalgamation of Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan
-
Ryan Anderson
-
Eduardo Najera
-
chandler parsons
-
Eduardo Najera
was one of the toughest guys in the league...i don't see it...
-
chandler parsons
they're both white, that's about it
-
whatever he does, i just hope he stays away from the LeBron skills camp
-
Well, if he does go, we're probably relegated to bubble team v3.0. Next year we legitimately do have a chance to have a decent seed in the tourney. If Wade goes though, I just don't see it.
-
Waiting for ednksu to weigh in on this topic
-
Wade isn't leaving. He's not even on any mock boards at this point.
-
Wes Welker.

Those mocks haven't caught up yet. I have read a couple of scouting reports that have him as a second rounder. WHEN he submits his name he's going to get, at least, a second round grade, unless he gets hurt. If he continues to play, the way he has, his stock is going to shoot up. He hasn't played in games heavily scouted, there aren't many NBA prospects in conference this year.

How much could a potential great run (Sweet 16) led by Wade bump him in the draft? Does a run like that help a guy much? I honestly don't know, I don't follow the NBA or the draft closely.

I think it certainly does help, though to what degree I'm not sure. More than anything I think it puts a spotlight on certain guys that maybe haven't had much attention. A guy like Dean could probably benefit quite a bit from a nice run.
Here's a pretty good article with recent examples and thoughts from a couple of scouts.

Thanks Joker.

It helps in terms of they're seen more. It's not unusual for a player to make a meteoric rise, after a tournament run, like it is with coaches. All it takes is for one or two scouts to be bullish on a player to give him a push. Patrick O'Bryant and Harold Arceneaux are two who stand out.
Arceneaux "The Show" remember that guy from Weber State who went off against UNC back in the day and upset them? I think it was a 3-14 game, anyway dude went off, had like 38 or 39. Everyone thought he was going to declare, he didn't because he didn't get a lottery grade but he was going to get drafted. He came back and Weber State had a shitty year and he didn't get drafted.
O'Bryant was Curryesque in which he had back to back good tournament showings, but Patty's was as a sophomore and junior. He did declare and was a top 10 pick but was never good in the NBA, I'm not sure he started one single game. He's now in China or something.
-
I think NBA scouting for most teams has gotten so much more analytics driven over the last 5+ years that you don't see tournament performance impacting as much as you used to.
-
barry's showing up for 2019, early 2nd round on nbadraft.net.
while dean is obviously chandler parsons, cant think of who barry's game is similar to.
-
chandler parsons

they are doppelgangers and have similar stats
-
dean even said he models his hair game after Parsons

Barry is an explosive athlete, the guy dunks with ease.
If he improves his jump shot he’ll get a good look.

he needs to shoot much, much better. but his shot looks pretty as hell even though it seldom goes in, and his ft% would indicate (barely) that he might be capable of improvement. might be a guy that could spend a few years in europe learning to shoot and then find a spot.
-

Yeah that's not a bad comparison
Without the behavior / discipline / criminality concerns.

Yeah, at his size he has to be a shooter and he isn't that at all. His ability to jump doesn't matter at all.
-
dang I didn't realize BBJ only shot 33% from 3. :sdeek:
yeah he's not playing the NBA probably ever
-
He'll be able to play in the G League or Europe for as long as he wants though.
-
he's really slashy which is fun to watch
-
he's definitely a little like kyrie without the crazy dribbles. defense can get him to the nba. he can be a marcus smart or avery bradley type

i don't see it for bbj at all guys. he seems like a good guard that most successful college teams have some version of.
i love when he slashes, but like, pullen was better than him at everything (except maybe a step slower? idk)

Barry is stronger and much more athletic.
-
Yes, that's the biggest difference between the two and that's exactly what the next level craves. I still don't think he'll make it past the D?G? league tho
-
i suppose that's true but i don't consider being able to dunk that important for a G
-
He’s basically martavious with worse hair and dance moves
-
wade should try to show that his feet are more durable than they appear to be.
-
welcome back next year Dean!
-
He’s basically martavious with worse hair and dance moves
is bbj australian? because somebody took away his guns
-
Give BBJ greenawalt and he’d be selling tickets to the gun show
-
BBJ has another meaning, too.
