I legit hope we lose both.  Maybe I’m a bad fan for saying that but the Weber experiment is over and the faster it ends the better.

You're not a bad fan. We all want the Cats to win a lot. Just like tanking in pro sports so that you can replace your shitty personnel with hopefully better and younger personnel, sometimes it's best to just change what resources are available to you rather than trying to better with the resources you have. Hoping for a coaching change is perfectly reasonable for a passionate fan, acknowledging that losing more games will achieve that end faster is just pragmatic. Don't let others' personal moral hangups affect you, man. Their problem, not yours. Let's burn this mother rough rider down #BID

We've beat Iowa St., Baylor and Texas on the road this year which would lead you to believe we could win in Stillwater...... which is why we won't.  There won't be enough life preservers after this weekend.. :driving: (ftp://:driving:)

Losing at OSU is more important than losing to ISU, which is good because the latter is impossible.

That also makes saturday not just winnable, but unloseable (sp?).  Either oscar will lose and the 'cats get a completely unexpected bump in their wednesday pursuit, or oscar wins and it's another nice little lol-at-isu saturday with no damage done in the standings.

If we lost all of the remaining games Oscar would be coming back regardless. I don't think K-State has the balls to fire him because ADGT's first big hire is gonna be Snyder's replacement. Oscar is gonna stay unless he is taken from us, or if he just decides to retire super early. Oscar leaving won't even be on ADGT's mind until Snyders replacement is hired.

Look at it from this point of view, oscar is good enough to keep himself afloat, he will have no where to go if we dump him to the curb. Look at this from ADGT's point of view. He probably thinks Bill is a sure fire to retire within the next 5-10 years. I honest to god think that ADGT will do everything in his power to make the right football hire before he even thinks about a basketball hire. Hiring within for Basketball would be an absolute nightmare because all of those dudes that have been associated with this regime of Basketball. If I were him, I would ride Oscar out til his contract expires, avoid the buyout and look at what he has brewing. If it is worth a one year extension then give him a shot. If not look to see where up and coming guys, Richard Pitino and Earl Grant type guys are when Oscar's contract expires.

What i'm trying to say is that ADGT is trying to hold off as long as possible on making a splash with a basketball hire. I would be surprised if the Basketball hire comes before the football hire.

He went to a pigaggie game instead of the biggest home game of the year and his alma mater had to throw tarps over the empties because of him and his kind. Take his word for what it is.

Yeah I went to a Pig Aggie game with a friend who goes there, had to hear about how Mike Anderson is an up and coming coach. Im tired of oscar losing big games just as much as the other guy, but im telling you and mark my words. ADGT is gonna ride his contract out, it makes too much sense not to. Bills retirement is going to come before we have to make a hire for Basketball

oscar will find a way to make the tournament, he may even find a way to make it past the round of 64. But you can't convince me that ADGT didn't make this decision with the thought of confidence in oscar that he can keep fans at bay for just a few more years, maybe even build a good postseason run. Im not a fan of that decision but an extension is made with way more confidence than doubt.

Greg, I'm not 100% sure you're recalling the breakdown of that extension correctly.

That said, it would be completely unfair for KSU to ever fire him.  He's completely met and continues to meet expectations.

This extension reduced the buyout after this year correct?

ADGT also had this quote

"I have had the opportunity to observe our men's basketball program and visit with oscar on multiple occasions since I became athletics director," Taylor said. "I couldn't be more pleased with the type of person we have leading our program. Coach Weber is well-regarded throughout college basketball as an outstanding coach and a man who conducts his program with integrity and class."

"My goal is to provide the support and resources for all our teams to find success and have the opportunity to win championships," Taylor said. "We have won a Big 12 championship under his leadership and are confident about the state of the program and the potential of this year's team."

However if this year's team fails to have the success that Gene Taylor thought that it was gonna have then oscar could be on his way out but i'm willing to bet Meow 5 bucks that he will be here until the end of the 2020 season

This is the part of the quote where you realize Gene Taylor is lying to preserve the reputation of the university. The truth is that most coaches who know oscar hate the guy. He is not thought of well by rival coaches, and Gene Taylor knows that. It's the ADs job to pretend like his/her coaches are living saints up until the point they fire them, and even then, they blow a bunch of sunshine up everybody's ass about valued contributions and so forth. All in all, this quote is meaningless.

The extension is virtually meaningless.  With the reduced buyout for his extended years beyond 18-19, letting him run out his contract is basically just running out the prior contract sans extension.  The extension is so he's not a "lame duck" or whatever it's thought our recruits who are already dumb enough to entertain oscar don't realize he hypothetically might not be there by the time they'd show up in a boot or whatever.

This team is bipolar.  We are capable of going 5-1, and making the Sweet Sixteen.  Or losing every game.  If we have success this year and maybe next year, the long term prognosis looks like a maggot  infested pile of decaying horse crap.  Weber is building anything here - he is selling the farm to save his butt.  What did we get with the five scholarships we had to give?  Not one has really panned out. Save the future of Cat basketball, and can Weber.

We're really not bipolar. We've lost Big 12 games to the best 2 defenses (by far) and KU. We beat everyone else. We'll see if we become bipolar the rest of the way, we might. We may be the most consistent team in the Big 12 so far outside of Texas Tech.

This is exactly how I feel. We could actually turn out to be a very consistent team which would put us in the tournament.  I still expect to lose @OU because of how much better they are at home, but otherwise we have no good reason to think KSU won't run the table for the rest of their schedule.

My biggest issue with the anti-Bruceites is their propensity to completely make sit up. Stop trying to paint the dude as some sociopath. The truth is he's a very awkward dude who is a very average basketball coach, it really doesn't need to be anything more than that.

So the eff what? Are we really going to hold the coach of our rival school not liking our coach in high regard because of crap that happened 15 years ago somewhere else? Who cares? Bill hating oscar should be endearing. You don't really think that's the only coach-to-coach drama? I heard Scott Drew say on national television last night that nine big 12 schools should be in the tournament, should we use that to drum up drama between he and Prohm?

you guys are looking at cbb in a bubble.  college basketball teams are not static.  we’re not the same team that beat these teams earlier in the season.

Of course I am. Also, I'm not saying we're going to repeat 6-0 against those teams. I think the likelyhood of us playing well in most of the remaining games against these teams that don't play much defense and that we've already beaten is much higher than Tech and WVU who are obviously much better and present match up problems. I don't think that as much against KU, we just completely sucked against them in Manhattan.

And I agree with MIR. If oscar doesn't make the tournament or whatever standard Taylor has for him, he should absolutely be gone in my mind. Given the circumstances Taylor inherited its justified and I think he'll do it. But making up this oscar stuff has no bearing on whether he'll be fired or not.

I think we will stumble in at 3-3 down the stretch. but, we've already done better than I thought we would this year so who knows. I thought we'd be super, super, super bad and we're just medium.

My biggest issue with the anti-Bruceites is their propensity to completely make sit up. Stop trying to paint the dude as some sociopath. The truth is he's a very awkward dude who is a very average basketball coach, it really doesn't need to be anything more than that.

What in the eff are you talking about? He's a very awkward dude who is an inadequate coach. That's my point, entirely. Period.

oscar says passive aggressive shitty stuff about coaches after losses all the time. I've never heard Bill Self be as disrespectful toward a coach as he's been toward oscar, and it's 100% deserved. Lots of blow by hand shakes, and I'm sure he's not the smoothest operator at Big XII events either. Tom Izzo is the only guy I feel like I've ever heard legitimately defend the guy. Probably because he misses whipping his ass every year.

I'm not saying the KU coach hating our coach is a bad thing. It's bad that oscar is so goddam awkward that he can't get along with people, because his mode of operation is to unintentionally offend every human he comes across because he's a rough ridin' weirdo. Part of being a great basketball coach is being a great people person. oscar is a terrible people person. It doesn't make him a bad person in a moral sense, but it does make him a sub-optimal choice of coach for a school that less recruiting advantages than others.

Having an average coach is inadequate. The object of sports management, and this may seem dramatic, is to employ good coaches.

Giving a crap about what Steve Prohm thinks of K-State's coach is at the bottom the list of gaf's I care about when it comes to evaluating our current coach. It's just an additional crutch for saying I hate oscar Weber. Like MIR said.

Listen man, I'm not just making this crap up. One of my good buds in Manhattan, old townie, knows Lon, Brad, Huggy, and oddly enough Scott Drew on a personal level, and the consensus on oscar amongst coaches (according to these fellows) in the Big XII ranges from mild bemusement at his awkwardness to pretty intense dislike. He takes some pretty cheap shots in press conferences at times (I think unintentionally) and he acts like a petulant child when they lose a close game, and people don't like it, because most of them don't do those things, because as a coach, you're supposed to give other coaches the benefit of the doubt and act like a man when you lose. He can't do that, and (many) other coaches don't like him because of it. I really don't feel like this is super hard to believe. I know my buddy who smokes stogies on the golf course with some of these coaches is not a source I'm going to be citing in the newspaper or something, but it makes enough sense that I have no reason to doubt him.

Again, that's not the issue in itself. The issue is that oscar has a hard time getting along with people, because he's awkward as crap. It's the reason that he gets so much flack except when he's winning at a high level. He's a hard guy to like. And that's not great as a coach.

WC, I don't think its insignificant that oscar says dumb crap to the media constantly, gets under people's skin, and is annoying and kind of a weirdo. Everyday when I listen to 810 in the morning they're playing that "ASK FRAN FRISCILLA" clip with a bunch of har har chuckle chuckles. Most people are kind of laughing at him behind his back. He's repping the school not just with the hoops team but with his entire demeanor and actions and words. In a business like this, likability is a factor. So sure, I'm not bothered by Scott Drew's opinion of our coach, but its still an interesting and frankly believable nugget of info.

Oh, I totally get it. I just haven't seen it effect his recruiting. That would be my #1 concern of having an unlikable coach. I mean, he's no Calipari, but he's brought in a lot of enjoyable pieces that I've enjoyed watching.
Title: Re: 2-0 this week!

A lot of fans like to pretend some of these factors don't matter when it comes to coaches getting and maintaining jobs. But winning, having integrity, being likable, avoiding scandal, winning against rival teams, connecting with fans, being media savvy, and several other things are all factors. So maybe likability is 2% of what matters in a coach getting or keeping a job, maybe its 10%, but it matters. If you're really good at one factor (like Self with winning) then it will cover up factors you're not so good at (Self with integrity). oscar's issue is he's losing equity on winning and doesn't have equity in the likability factor with lots of fans to cover up other issues.

is the contention that somehow coaches are different than literally every other human on the planet and oblivious to what a clown oscar is?

weird take imo

also weird is the idea that it’s oscar that’s landing these kids.  my guess is that we sign some talent despite brucey.   but let’s not pretend this staff is a group of recruitering all stars, there’s a semblance of talent that’s going to sign at a p5 w/ our facilities, independent of the coach

when you factor in the whining, the blaming everyone but himself, the unlikableness, and the lack of tournament success, i just don't understand how anyone could be on team oscar after this long, when i can look at missouri and how they went from complete crap dumbster fire to a more exciting team than us in one offseason.  i would rather roll the dice and try something new that might pan out/might not, than roll with some dork that is mediocre at best af.

I really think oscar could be a really solid guy for a MVC conference team, maybe American, A-10, whatever....But Big 12 just doesn't work. I think players like him, but he's such an odd dude, to me, it'd be difficult to play for a guy like him. But you get what you get with him. K-State will never be anything but a bubble team with oscar and there really is no other way to slice it. I do think the guy can coach. But not consistently at this level. Once people (oscar supporters) realize this, basketball can possibly become watchable again. Bubble expectations. Upset a team here and there. Mediocre. That's about it.

Yes.  This is the correct point of view.  Also factor in the fact that oscar has been on this trajectory before.  This has played out.  We know the ending.  Why wait for the inevitable?

well, we're already at the inevitable and still not doing crap about it. which is a bigger issue. I mean, not bigger than starting down the inevitability path to here but bigger in that we're now stuck on it and won't get off.

Is the idea here that other coaches would look at that stat and be like, "welp not going there"?

They wouldn't consider that the "'ship" was a shared one while losing 3 times to the other sharer (in year one with players not recruited by him), the NCAA tournaments didn't include a round of 32 appearance, and hadn't finished in the top half of the conference since year two?

Come on. Other coaches just aren't that dumb.

No, it isn't a thing. Remember when the #BIDers pitched a crap fit when he was hired because Currie used the recommendations of current and former coaches to hire the dude? Frank didn't get along with Mike Anderson, I bet they hated each other a lot more than oscar and Bill do. You also don't think the other coaches weren't envious/pissed privately about how Frank was allowed to behave and gave the media eat it up? We know McNeck was feeding Sean Keeler negative crap about Frank.

These are competitive people in a job where beating your peers keeps you employed, of course there's going to be some level of dislike within those guys. oscar's good guy rep obviously comes from his peers. You can be nice and weird, several of you people are.
