Haven't seen a thread where we've covered this yet. Some of these testimonies, man.

Nassar can't give KSUW's a tax break so I'm sure he even agrees that he's a piece of crap.
-
BTW, I can't believe that last statement was made by a 15 year old. She was smart as hell. Calm and collect. I guess she had to grow up in a hurry due to that POS.
-
What this guy is convicted of doing is beyond vile and the sentence is warranted.
Unfortunately, the judge behaved like a complete ass during the sentencing and handed this POS scumbag a lot of ammo to use for challenging his sentence on appeal. Among other things, the judge crowed to Nassar that "I just signed your death warrant" and alluded to wishing she could sentence a little prison rape but for that pesky 8th Amendment.

I’ll bet you are very happy he’s not a Republican running for Congress so you don’t have to vote for this piece of crap.
-
The judge really bothered me, too, KSU.
-
The judge's performance was ridiculous. I gathered she's looking for a tv show or to run for some non-judge public office.
-
Can you appeal when you plea guilty
-
Can you appeal when you plea guilty
Typically not the plea itself absent extraordinary circumstances. Might be able to appeal the sentence. Depends upon whether he gave up his right to appeal the sentence as part of the guilty plea. And even then, the judge exhibited such bias that he might have good grounds to appeal the sentencing regardless.

they are going to have to try really hard to keep him alive in prison
-
they are going to have to try really hard to keep him alive in prison
Hopefully they barely try.
-
they are going to have to try really hard to keep him alive in prison
No, he'll be with a bunch of other chomos, nothing will happen
-
Yea I got to thinking that Sandusky is still alive so there must be a system that works to prevent it
-
Comparing this guy to crap is insulting to crap.
Worse are the people who let this monster to continue to molest these girls.
-
I thought all judges opined at the end...I mean I've seen Judge Judy.

Lol yeah, I thought so too, and I find it a little funny that is what people have stuck to a bit, for effs sake he's a rough ridin' terrible person, who gives an eff what the judge said on his way to his lonely prison cell he'll call home until he dies. The rough rider was preying on six year old for Christ's sake.

Larissa Boyce was a teenage gymnast in 1997 when she and a teammate reported to Michigan State coach Kathie Klages that they were uncomfortable with Nassar’s treatments, which included vaginal penetration, according to MLive. But instead of reporting their concerns to university authorities or law enforcement, Klages told Nassar what Boyce had said.

The only reason people care is if the judge acting that way creates a viable opportunity for him to appeal successfully.
-

Many judges do. It's highly unlikely that a judge's tirade is going to be used as a basis to overturn anything unless the sentence issued was outside the sentencing guidelines.
-
Judges are allowed to be disgusted at disgusting people.

His letter to the judge basically begging her to let him get out of listening to the victims' testimonies was laughably ridiculous and I'm glad she squashed him like the stud boss that she is. His appeal wouldn't do crap, he's not going anywhere. Sorry guys, in the case of Nasser v. Sassy Judge, I'm going with the Judge on this one. Don't call me a hero.
-
in the case of Nasser v. Sassy Judge
There's no case of Nasser v. Sassy Judge.
Nasser got what I think is the max justice allowed there. Sassy Judge put on a performance for the lone benefit of herself.
How many names of local level criminal judges do you remember aside from Ito?

I like her. The dude needs 100000x more than that....take your shot when you have it on subhumans like that.
-
I honestly think Judge Judy might have done a better job.
-
This judge's showboating is not normal, and it is not good. It's an embarrassment.
-
I mean, I really like the outcome. Growing up around law my entire life because of my mom, I've never seen a display like that in my life.
-
The judge was way out of line.
-

what's it matter?
-
Lol this child raper gets yelled at and all people want to talk about is the judge being out of line....weird.
From the same people that were cool with Roy Jones....weirder.
-
Yeah, that's not happening, Phil.
-
Don't plea guilty then
-
yeah. not sure why people are crying about the judge's comments. he pleaded guilty. she sentenced him within the guidelines. who cares if she shamed him for his lack of remorse?
-
Would hate to be in her courtroom if she decided I was guilty before the case was presented.
You're right, cause that is exactly what happened, after weeks of testimony from 156 victims. Yup, totally didn't follow the due process law there. What a mega bitch, amirite?
-

Yup. But unsurprising that gE's resident snowflakes are all up in arms about it.
-
Some people just expect more out of their society than others, I guess.
-
I was most offended when she said she wouldn't send her dogs to him. Like she's fine with almost all subhuman care for her dogs, but draws the line at the vet being a serial human rapist.

It is a bedrock of our legal system that judges must be impartial. That doesn’t mean a judge can’t levy a heavy sentence or explain, in frank terms, the reason for those heavy sentences. But this judge crossed the line from impartial judge to advocate when she made comments like “it’s my honor to sentence you”, “I’m delivering your death warrant”, and “if I could, I’d add some prison rape” (paraphrasing, but essentially what she said).
But you don’t have to take my word for it - there are numerous liberal outlets that agree. Here is another.

Sure. I'm just saying that it's not uncommon for judge's to make sometimes off-color remarks when sentencing. They're not robots. And given the discretion judge's have in sentencing, it really doesn't make a difference.
Just a weird thing to get up in arms about.

Protip....don't put paraphrasing in quotes.
This isn't a liberal vs conservative thing....not everything has to be team vs. team. Some people are just more sensitive to a kid rapist being told what's what.....some don't care.

She'll have her own book deal and nancy grace type show soon enough where she can explain herself.

Good grief @ kdub trotting out a "but liberals!" for even this subject

I think the real line here is between (1) people who understand the law and generally aren't bothered by the off-color remarks in this case, and (2) people who either don't understand the law or are personally offended by the judge's comments. I'd guess the conservative/liberal split is actually pretty mixed.

This is the type of person that tunes in to Nancy Grace.
-
FWIW - I do think the judge deserves some criticism for saying anything to suggest she wished prison rape on the guy, but that's because I'm a softy and live under the ideal that most people who go to prison are capable of turning their lives around if given the right encouragement and opportunities. Still, she deserves a lot of slack for having sat through testimony that should make anyone's blood boil.
-
She was out of line and self promoting but I really only care in so much as it effected her job. I think she came to the same sentence almost any judge would. That is impartial and justice as far as I'm concerned.
-
I must have missed her implying anything to do with prison rape.

Do you guys have video links for the judges comments?

Ultimately that's how I feel. She had to sit there for weeks hearing one horrible story after another, I don't think really any person after that can properly contain themselves after that, and it didn't really affect the outcome of the case, it wasn't ever going to. I took it as an absolute end of the disgust of having to hear girls from ages as young as 6 being sexually abused by this guy. Was it a bit over the top? Sure, but given the circumstances, and given WTF Nassar was doing, it pales in comparison, and is ultimately neither here nor there.
-
Why is she talking about herself so much?
She wants a tv show.

I think a lot of people were WTF'ing because they (a) forget he pleaded guilty and/or (b) haven't seen very many sentencings before.
-
I definitely have never seen a plea deal before, so this is very true.
-
Why is she talking about herself so much?
She wants a tv show.
I believe that she has turned down numerous media appearances since?

On the first day of the hearing, she mused about allowing “many people” to sexually assault Nassar if she were permitted to.
“Our Constitution does not allow for cruel and unusual punishment,” she said. “If it did, I have to say, I might allow what he did to all of these beautiful souls ? these young women in their childhood ? I would allow some or many people to do to him what he did to others.”
Why even have a sentencing hearing?

That's par for the course in courtrooms simpleton

I know it's hindsight and stuff and i'm not a parent, but these parents are committing to sending their kids away to do gymnastics with a bunch of strangers in strange countries all across the world. Like at the ages of 9, 10, and 11. There's gotta be some kind of accountability on their end for making bad choices like this, right?
Real talk: My dad was going to K-State when I was a baby and mom was working at Anderson hall. They didn't have a lot of $ with two kids at the time, so they got what they could afford as a baby sitter. This crazy bitch bit me daily and would have the other kids bite me at the age of 2 for crying. Apparently my brother didn't eat his sweet potatoes one day, so she put them down his pants and force fed it to him as punishment. I honestly don't want to be a parent. Too many mumped up ppl out there.

That guy will sit in holding cell till he is brought before the judge this afternoon. She will scold him about her demands for court decorum and then she will send him on his way.

I'm surprised there haven't been randoms trying to prank these things by somehow getting signed up to the prosecutor's list to speak.

He's not quite as ridiculous as she was, but he's still pretty ridiculous.
-
I get that he's pissed, but his poor daughter. Having to go through all that and finally when she's about to get some closure has to watch her dad get arrested (and mocked).
-
Could he have punched Nassar in the face? If he hadn't just been talking about wanting to beat him up? If he'd waited until the guards were distracted by something? If he'd gone at full speed from his first step? I kinda think he could have made it.
-
I just watched again. He was pretty damn slow.
-
He clearly wanted to get stopped before he actually got to Nassar.
-

I hope so, or else his daughters clearly got all their athleticism from their mother.

Best part of that video (if you can say there's a best part) is the cop whispering in his ear at the end. Pretty sure he uses the phrase "that son of a bitch" as he's trying to calm him down.

Olympians, senators call for prosecution of former FBI agents for lying about the Larry Nassar case

Two and a half hours into a Senate judiciary committee hearing into the FBI’s mishandling of the Larry Nassar sexual abuse case, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) offered FBI director Christopher Wray some advice.
The hearing was in response to the July release of a Department of Justice Office of Inspector General’s report that found the FBI failed to act in its Nassar investigation “with the urgency that the allegations required.” Specifically the Inspector General’s investigation found that Michael Langeman, the supervisory special agent in the FBI’s Indianapolis office lied to investigators to cover up errors made in the bureau’s investigation into allegations that Nassar, the former U.S. Olympic and USA Gymnastics national team physician, sexually assaulted gymnasts under the guise of treatment.
