Title: So it’s Cactus Bowl day
Post by: The Big Train on December 26, 2017, 09:44:04 AM
What should I be looking for today for the game?  I haven’t read anything really about the game or what the game plan should be.  :dunno:

The game plan should be to take a nap today to try and make it all the way through. The game starts at like midnight and will be boring AF.

Is there SOME potential for an exciting game?  I've read UCLA can't stop the run, and the 'Cats can't stop the pass?  If true, that should make for an offensive-oriented game, which is always more exciting than two teams with great defenses.

Honestly, I'll be on the edge of my seat with Dimel calling the plays one last time. Actually don't GAF if he gives it to Winny a bunch as long as he doesn't batter ram Sky into a shoulder issue before he departs.

Last time we played UCLA in a bowl game, they were way faster, way bigger, way more athletic. Hopefully that still isn't the case. Also curious to see if we see any slight improvement with S Thompson. Haven't heard anything if he is healthy, but if he has had a couple more weeks practice with the ones, then curious to see how the offense flows.

Just got back from Suburban Lawn and Landscape (after christmas sale on bulbs), anyway a UCLA fan was talking about how much better the bruins were.  Lady in a purple Cotton Bowl sweatshirt grabbed a Prickly Pear and smashed it into the UCLA fan's face and yelled "FAMILY!"  Killed the UCLA fan.  Then, the lady chopped up the UCLA corpse and scattered it over a mulch pile.  People are very keyed up for this game in South Johnson County.

Lol.

Went in to get the truck cleaned up today, and my guy that does the detailing is a UCLA grad. He says they're just ready to get this game over with to start the Chip era and get the losery ass Rosen out.

Think I had him flustered cause he did kind of a half-assed job today.... still tipped, though.

PFFT! OMG.

One of our new employees Bronson is from Southern CA and went to San Diego St but always wears UCLA gear in the office. He has been talking crap since they announced the matchup..... Well today I had enough. That guy comes in with a stupid UCLA Christmas sweater complaining about how cold it gets in KS (Just moved here in October) and how long it took him to clean his window.

I played it cool and offered to show him some Midwest #LifeHacks for dealing with the cold weather such as throwing a pot of boiling water on your windshield to clean the snow and ice off. During lunch he went down to the warehouse and boiled a big pot of water then struggled to carry it to his 08 Civic (This guy is fat as crap).

While he was boiling the water I let Tim, our SVP (KSU Undergrad, Notre Dame MBA) in on the joke and we watched him from the corner suite as he stumbled towards his car spilling boiling hot water on his hand in the process. When he got to his car and dumped the water the whole rough ridin' windshield just shattered like we knew it would. Tim just flipping lost it and we probably high fived about 6-9 times while laughing at what an idiot these UCLA fans are.

Bronson tried to get back in the office but Tim locked all the doors and told him to come back when he stopped being "Such a god damn pissant" We opened a bottle of scotch and had a few more laughs as we watched that fat ass drive away with his head sticking out the window like a dog.

I learned in another thread on this blog that we don’t actually have inferior recruiting.
I mean the last touchdown we didn't have anyone within 10 yards of a guy right in the middle of the field. It also took us five three and outs and a fifty yard rushing touchdown to recognize the value of rushing against the worst rush defense in history.

So what I'm saying is our schemes are at least as big a problem as our recruiting.

Every time (and I'll admit it's not been many since we're not wearing baby blue and yellow) they show HCBS, there's sonny boy yacking in his ear. Since each time it's not a kick-off or punt, it's pretty evident who's calling the game.

Does UCLA really have the second to worst run defense in the country?

Allegedly
Makes sense that they wouldn't expect a pass-happy offense
15 pass attempts, 42 runs

Statistically hard to imagine otherwise, but can’t blame the coaches for opting to use our running QB against the worst rushing defense.

6:00 left in 1st half, UCLA has ball 1st & 10 at the 46. They lead 17-7.

Next 32 minutes =
 UCLA 55 yds, 23 Offensive plays + 1 fake punt, 11 yds
KState 271 yds, 42 Offensive plays.

also and non related- I'm glad kstate won. a loss against that team, who was trash all year despite having a #1 pick in the draft qb would have been a horrible sign. like, even with rosen they were a pretty bad team. losing to ucla without him would've been not good.

Who wants some phog gems?

Quote
Surprised MEOW ball is only -6.5. I expected they would be a 9-10 points favorite.

Quote
West Virginia looked like crap today. UCLA hanging with the grapes so far. KSU used a time out 1 minute in, big surprise. Watching the Chevy discount commercials I've learned every woman that works for Chevy is pretty hot.

Quote
Kstate shtting their Depends against an interim coached team.

Quote
and a 2nd string redshirt frosh qb. KSU just seems lackluster. Another vintage Snyder bowl prep and game.

Quote
Yeesh. Heading for 0-3.

Well, at least oSu and TCU games look like wins and I like OU. Hopefully, the conference can get to .500 after this brutal start.

Quote
KSUCK back in front

Quote
KState fans had an absolute meltdown on social media last night over Jason Benetti and Aaron Rodgers' brother mentioning Chip Kelly too much.

Uh, UCLA is in LA! ESPN knows where their audience is and it isn't town in central KS. Plus, Benetti has overcome a lot to achieve the position he's achieved. Rubes.
 Nobody gives AF about sports in LA.

Quote
Nothing like an interim HC and a RS Frosh making his first start to cure those bowl game blues for Snyder. Now the speculation begins on whether or not he returns.

Quote
Some how the greatest coach in history was able to beat UCLA with its 6-6- record 4-5 in conference and 7 th place finish in Pac 12. Plus they had no head coach and no starting QB. If you fire your coach maybe they should not let you in a bowl game. Another great win!

somehow WVU lost to Utah, 3-6 in conference and 9th place finish in Pac 12.
these bowl game match ups are a joke. they are worse than NIT games in basketball.

If OU does not win the big 12 needs to do something to improve in football . right now it is a horrible football league.

Quote
I know it's trendy to bash play by play and color commentary personalities, but I've liked what I've heard/seen from Jason Benetti. I've streamed the MLB.TV service for a while and got to watch and listen to some of his work during ChiSox games. JB seems at ease with the substantial down time that you often get during MLB games.

But yeah, Chip Kelly was and is a huge story for the Baby Bears and Pac 12 football. Not surprised at all he got so much face time. I thought they would try to interview him, but somehow missed out on that opportunity.

Exactly. This is what I was trying to get across to Iowa State fans last year who were upset with the officiating.

I'm sure there were numerous bad calls in that game.  I still recall the PI that they wanted called at the end, and maybe a hold that was called against them, but 3 months from now, I doubt I'll remember even those details.  Give it a couple years and then poof -- just another K-State W over Iowa State.
