Why do you ask?

I would estimate I know of probably 30-40 people who are disabled, was curious how many disabled people that you know.

That's a pretty high number. Are you in a healthcare position?

One got carpal tunnel from scooping ice cream at braums, first she had surgeries on both wrists that didn’t fix it, then they determined what % disabled she was and she gets ssdi

I'm on my 4th week of being on STD and was just approved for another month. Will reassess then or can go back to work sooner if things get better. This is one of the best benefits I think an employee could get.

For you? Oh no. Are you looking to see how to get it? My mother has it, certainly pays more than SSI.

Yes, I was lucky that my company gave me 6 months full paid leave but that is ending soon and I still can't reliably work. I talked with a knowledgeable person this evening and feel much more ready for the process.

Is this different than long term disability? When I was on it our STD coverage would last for 180 days then switch over to long term, it was at a much lower percentage of my salary tho. They also would use my sick leave to supplement the lost percentage.

Fun fact, you have to opt in for STD and LTD when you first start a job. I was denied when I tried to sign up 5 years later.

Anyway I didn't have either through the insurance company. Ssdi is social security disability

So were you able to get on the SSDI?

It's a long application and process. I should jump the line based on their criteria for compassionate allowance (all stage 4 cancers meet this requirement and are expedited).
