Title: Irvine Eaters.
Post by: renocat on November 17, 2017, 06:21:16 AM
I dislike things that are from California
This will be an upgrade in competition from us.  Eaters have some very tall frontliners.  It will be interesting to see how our Lockerplant does killin' and cuttin' big meat anteaters.  Mantool, Meatfart, and the Human Hyena have to be quick and relentless.  We will need their 15 fouls.
We should win, 80% likelihood.
Of course, no one cares.

Actually, a 92% chance of winning.

If you would use their real names and not their stupid nicknames I might know who you’re talking about Reno

Yeah, I'm not going to discuss K-State basketball with nicknames.

The real problem with nicnames this year is we have more players capable of contributing compared to only seven or eight last year.

I like to see some publicity about this.   These guys don't have to be great just solid.  I think Shadd has more upside than Stockyard, but he is behind since he played in a small school.

The next week will show us a lot. We're going to see some solid mid major bigs tonight. We'll see good high major bigs vs Arizona State. If we win that one, we'll see some really good bigs vs X.

Thank you very much for the translation Reno. I’m more excited about the game now that I know who’s playing.

Eaters is short for anteaters if that’s what you think was it.

Cats were decent. Irvine isn't terrible.

I liked what Stockard did. Listened on radio.  Sounds like he does well against the zone.

We've got significant problems down low. Our guards are good. We'll see if oscar can scheme his way around that.

There won't be anything of note here until the 1/6 game, maybe 1/10 anyway.

I am not sure who are guars.  Are Patrick, Wainright, Jawraw guards?  The point is serviceable guards.  Last year it was Carl be Irwin, and then nothing.  McGuirl will be a good addition

Northern Arizona on Monday and then Arizona State on Thursday and if we win, probably Xavier on Friday.  Our defense has been extremely good and we'll find out how good next week.

It was bad basketball last night.  Nothing has changed.

The game was not ugly at the start when Claws was playing aggressive.  When Wade got 2 fouls and had to sit, things got ugly.  At the start of the second half Dean played in fear of picking up more fouls,  again we were ugly Swampthing Patrick saved our bacon.  Stockard did the same in the 1st half.

our entire team is comprised of 2-3 guards.

we essentially have no front court, no true PG, and no playmaker.  no size, no length.  so, basically, expect good results against below average mid-majors and poor results against P5 programs - your quintessential oscar squad.

I want to see us against Arizona State and hopefully Xavier.

That said, this team looks much better than I thought. We play extremely hard on defense and make it very difficult for teams to run offense. We have enough scoring punch and Wade/Sneed look at two guys that can go get points when they want.

Or guards could be an issue, but the biggest problem is that Brown/Stokes/Diarra aren't finishing right now (24% combined on 2s).

Our bigs don't really need to score, and Mawein/Sallah/Stockard are rebounding decently.

We'll see, but as bad a disappointment as football as been, basketball might be as big of a surprise.

IMHO.

You nailed the biggest problem being guards finishing.  Stokes made a couple last night so I think Brown and Diarra will come around as they are making good penetration and taking shots at the rim that look like they are high %.  Just need to see some go in.
