Maybe is because they didn’t run offense against the ‘roos, but they look like they suck real bad?

No doubt.  Only up by 27 with six minutes left when all the starters had to be pulled due to their sucky performance.  Glad we had a high bb IQ poster to notice that.

Wichita State was up on that garbage team 62-23 at halftime. You are part of the problem.

To your point, when Huggs / Frank came on board my thought was that KSU had to consistently be better than OSU, ISU and Tech to stay out of the cellar of the B12 (realizing that Tom and Wolly had us in the cellar).  Including tournament games, Frank managed to go 16-7 (70%) against these three teams.  When oscar was hired and we added crummy TCU to the conference and started playing everyone twice, I thought that this would be a great deal for KSU... oscar started out well going 12-5 in the first two years, but now into year six we've fallen to 25-20.  The traditional bottom has surpassed us and I don't see WVU, KU, and OU don't seem to be slowing down...

No, my expectations are to be above .500 in the conference, win at least one B12 tournament game and win at least 1 NCAA tournament game a year as a minimum... I am point out that when Huggs / Frank came KSU was in the cellar and we crawled out of that only to return the last several seasons as the cellar has improved and we have not.

I don't know, dogg. I think we are just stagnant. With the exception of the championship year and the 8th place year we've been a middle table squad. We're no real threat to be a consistent winner but oscar will do just enough not to have wild swings like seemingly every other program not named Kansas and West Virginia. Looks like we're headed for another 6th or 7th place finish; 5th if oscar commits to making some drastic changes and they work, 8th if everything falls apart.

Fellers the horse ain't dead yet.  It won't win a thoroughbred race, but we can still do some plowing. We can still be Champions of the Bottom Half.  That should be good enough for the tournament.  Texqs, Cyclones, TCU, OkieDoakies, and KSU will fight for this coveted title.  Our chances get diminished though if Kam is hurt

In general I agree, there is no point in checking in now.  I like oscar as a person and he seems to have brought quality individuals (assistant coaches and players) to the program that should make us proud to cheer for.  I will be cheering for KSU to win every game and have on and off the court success.

That said, I can't see how KSU gets to .500 in this conference.  It could happen, but to get here KSU will need to be beat good teams.  That may sound stupid, but at the moment KSU's three best wins are Vandy, WaSU and ISU who are a combined 23-21 (1-8 in conference).  If you look at their record against P5 schools, our best wins are 2-14.  It is more impressive that KSU won these games on the road, but it is hard to envision that KSU is a .500 team in the B12.

Question: How come every time I type 'Bruuce' (without the double u) it is changed to 'oscar' in my post?  I have tried to go back and edit it but the same thing happens...

Without Kam, I'm about to fall out. Not enough depth in the program to make up for losing one of our top 3 players. Its hard for me to see more than 6 Big 12 wins.

I won't lie.  The way he handles the ball out top I figured he would surpass Spradling for most pockets picked and run out layups allowed.

sorry but I refuse to accept the idea that this team is good.  we’ve been playing well over the past 7 days, yes.  we’ve also been shooting lights out.  how does this team find ways to win when the shots inevitably aren’t falling?

3 games over the next 12 days should provide them time to cool off

4-0 over the next four games would put us squarely in the running for the conference... we would still need a lot of help, but it would be an impressive run.  One win at a time, really love the brand of basketball that Brown, Wade, Sneed and Diarra have adopted.  They have really secured the ball and struck a good balance between driving to the rack and hitting the three / jumper.  The ball really seems to be moving well and when we dribble it is right towards the rim with the goal of scoring.

Yeah it would be insane. I wouldn't be surprised if we beat both Georgia and KU, and then lost to WV and Texas, and, then just when everyone is pissed we dropped those two games and went 2-2 we beat TT.

From the Wichita Eagle "Add it all up, and K-State has been on the court for 101 minutes, 32 seconds over the span of seven days without trailing for a single moment."

Wade the National Player of the Week.

We did not cave to a team playing a zone, why?

1st, we made 3s.

2nd, Dean is attacking now and Baylor had no answer for him in the first 10 minutes. He set the tone.

BTW, we are 14th in offensive efficiency (1.17 kenpom adjusted), 19th in eFG%, 68th on 3s, 16th on 2s.

In Big 12 play, 2nd in efficiency (1.14 ppp), 1st in eFG%, 1st on 3s, 1st on 2s, and 1st in FT rate.

The thing is this is probably the toughest year in a while to pick the top and bottom teams in the Big 12. TCU was ranked despite being 2-5 in the conference. Then they go and dominate WVU. If OU loses tonight I think you have to put them at middle to bottom at best for now.

Other than KU being at the top atm, it’s all just a mess at the midway point.

Without a doubt the KITN is coming, but is it really going to be enough to knock us out of the top half of the conference? I’m not so sure.

A whole year ago, before we made our run to the tourney last year? Great scooping. I thought losing Wes and DJamer would be a deal breaker at that time, I was wrong. oscar has developed his guys. I called it at the start Of the year when no one else was watching the games. Keep shooting tho, chi!

Yea, it was further back.  My point is that when you enjoy taking victory laps for a correct prediction, you deserve your lumps too.

I like this team, and I love watching a player like Brown take over a game, but it's too early to call where this team falls in relation to other oscar and even Frank coached teams.

I mean, we all know his history, but many were laughed at for being optimistic about this team this year. Sad. Real sad.

This team is definitely fun to watch right now, but it was not earlier in the season.

This group of guys has been fun to watch improve for a couple of years.  LBBIQ type folks just see W's next to ranked teams and think these guys just flipped a switch or something.  sheesh.

i'm not saying my opinion will be correct but here's my assessment of where i'll be given the result:

miss tourney: fire oscar <= with that
first round loss: fire oscar <= No, that is a bare minimum
second round loss: fire oscar but i understand not firing him <=hell no, proved you belong by winning at least 1 games
sweet 16 loss: okay let's go <= Second weekend is a good thing, happy
elite 8 loss: hell yeah oscar <= Very Happy
final 4 loss: extend the hell out of him <=I won't be pissed about Frank's FF anymore
champ game loss: lifetime contract <= Sure why not, that's been the farthest we've ever been
natty: statue <= and a parade, and a kiss the rings ceremony by every naysayer grovelling at his feet

I'll admit my desire for these players to stay is 100% from a place of selfishness. With the limited number of people who get drafted in the NBA draft I do wonder the cost/benefit analysis to playing another year if you aren't a "known entity" in the basketball community. Dean has the most national attention, but as of today Kam and Barry are only on the radar for people who follow the BIGXII specifically. Hard to see them raising their draft stock this year without a long run in the NCAA tournament.

These guys (Brown/Stokes) need to talk to Pullen because that's their pro ceiling. Its not a bad one, Pullen has done well playing overseas, but he just doesn't have the size to be an NBA player.

Honestly, Wade is probably most likely to make an NBA roster, perhaps in a role similar to what got Cartier Martin some time in the league. I don't think he's getting drafted to do that though. Plus, though my perception could be wrong, as a small town Kansas kid he seems like a guy that would come back as a senior to have a special season at K-State.

Depending on Stokes role when he returns, I could seem him grad transferring if he has it as an option.  I can't imagine him having the same role he did with Diarra playing so well.  If he isn't ahead of schedule in graduating, I can't see him sitting a year to play a year somewhere though.

I second this, unless the small ball lineup mentioned in the other thread is enacted and he starts, I could see him transferring. His depth and experience would be great for this squad but if he leaves I wont be upset.

I think Dean will end up being a significantly higher prospect than Cartier was. I really think he can get a second round grade this year. If he comes back and doesn't get injured he'll get drafted higher than Bill and will likely have a better career.

Definitely possible. He still seems like a tweener a bit, but I don't watch enough NBA to know better. Can he handle it well enough to play a SF/PF and can he guard at that level would be my questions.

the tournament consists of several rounds. They are currently named, in order of first to last:

The First Four
The First Round (the Round of 64)
The Second Round (the Round of 32)
The Regional Semi-finals (participating teams are known popularly as the "Sweet Sixteen")
The Regional Finals (participating teams are known commonly as the "Elite Eight")
The National Semi-finals (participating teams are referred to officially as the "Final Four")
The National Championship

Is Wacky really arguing that he'd prefer a conference championship to a final 4 appearance?
4 out of 6 years in the tourney with a conference championship vs 1 out of 6 years in the tourney and  a fluke run to the final 4 with a bubble team? sure.

I would take the tournament run. The elite 8 run was so much fun, and a final 4 would have just been amazing. Hopefully oscar can put something together this year.

These guys (Brown/Stokes) need to talk to Pullen because that's their pro ceiling. Its not a bad one, Pullen has done well playing overseas, but he just doesn't have the size to be an NBA player.

Stokes - Agree

well he didnt recruit wes (that is what you said not me) wes was coming to ksu regardless and brooks sealed the deal . and wade while we all love him is most likely an overseas player, im not trying to get into an argument with you, i like the players oscar recruits for the most part but they are 98% of the time just 4 year college players and thats it.

Brown is at least 2" taller than Pullen (assuming we measure both of them correctly). But I agree w. Francis, he would be closer to the size of an NBA point guard, but he would still be a bit small. If we take Barry's listing as gospel (lol) he's 6'3" 195, Russell Westbrook is 6'3" 200 for a comparison.

He never committed to him, but you're right, Frank recruited him, but Brooks sealed the deal on 9/14/12. Was highlighted in oscar's system for 4 years which helped with his position.

However, you're right, I just care that we're winning games.

I expect to win on average 1 ncaa game every year. oscar has 0 so far, so he needs to win 6 this year for him to meet my expectations
I still find it super adorable those discounting his opening round win last year. It counts, butthurt dorks.
anyone who counts that as a tournament win has a hard time reading
The NCAA tournament consists of 68 teams. They advanced to the round of 64. Maybe do some research.

You should look up what "play in" means.  they are both in dictionary
*the or *a. That should be in there too, lawyer.

Devonte Graham is currently project as a early second round draft pick, regardless of it being right or wrong. I don't think their is a valid argument argument that separates Senior Graham from Junior Brown. Thus I don't think there is validity in "no chance in hell".

Brown has made more 2pt shots in conference than Devonte has made all year. He is shooting 15% better on twos than Graham. So that why Brown's has a higher in conference ORTG. A tag along stat that has some sample size issues is Brown is shooting better behind the arc in conference play.

Barry's 3pt % is borderline low for his career (as far as the NBA is concerned).  Graham's has consistently been about 10% higher and I don't think a seven game sample this season will convince the NBA that has changed.

I would guess Svi is the best NBA player coming off of either team this year and probably drafted the highest.  His 3pt % and size will have some teams drooling.

well when you are a bubble team its nice to not crap your pants against good teams at home. i think they tend to look at that. both ku are wvu are not even that good, its the same song and dance every year and its old

I mean, they're the two best teams in our conference, but ok. If you're losing home games to teams like OSU and Iowa State, then I could understand the bitching, but they haven't been doing that.

yet. i dont see how you have any confidence looking at that schedule going forward, i see isu and baylor as the only games that we should win, texas at home is a toss up

@WVU- L
@Texas- L
Tech- W
OSU- W
ISU- W
Texas- W
@OU- L
@TCU- W
Baylor- W

There is some validity to kslim's point and we absolutely need to win out at home now. My preseason thought was go at least 7-2 at home and we're still on track for that.

We have 2 road wins already and I was hoping for 2-7 there. I think we might get at least 3 and maybe 4.

I don't think this is crazy.

That's fair, but we've lost a lot of OSU, ISU, and Colorado type games in the past at home and we've yet to do that so far this year. We're losing to teams that we're underdogs against (Vegas wise).

I agree, but I'm of the belief that this team is simply better and oscar is going to have success more like his first 3 seasons (23-4 at home vs Big 12). No doubt, the last 2 seasons we have stunk at home (8-10).

They could very well prove me wrong.

and in the games we won, we were shooting well outside of our means.  this team isn’t capable of shooting like that for extended periods of time. we’ve come back to earth and this is more of who we are than the team leading the conference in 2/3 pt fg%

also our rebounding and defense

3PT%
30% or better in 8/9 Big 12 games
37% or better in 7/9 Big 12 games
40% or better in 4/9 Big 12 games

2PT%
55% or better in 7/9 Big 12 games

Is a fluke?

And 40%/22% vs KU is the norm?

None of the games will be easy and OSU, Tx, ISU, etc may all beat us.  But overall, our last 8 games are going to be easier than most of the other conference teams.  Adding Stokes back in the rotation is also going to help our chances.  More rest for our guards and another guy who can knock down shots on most nights.

I mean, the conference performs well in the non-con, it's just that the teams they beat early in the year develop and get better before the tourney and for some reason, it doesn't look like the big 12 does at all.

The losses are so, so bad.  There was a time i would never consider switching channels during a cat game but i find myself mindless flipping thru the channel guide and realizing about any one of the 300+ channels i get would be more interesting than the game.  Thankfully i missed the last 16 minutes of this abortion due to a riveting episode of 2 Broke Girls.

What to do?  We have a team built around 3rd year starters (hell even our Freshman is a redshirt) and still can't sniff the top teams in the league.

I'm resigned to another year of Oscar. Next year, will be his team, the one he pieced together after lighting a match to the program when he couldn't manage the first batch of recruits he brought on campus. It's a team with solid players at four spots, the best of whom is a once-in-a-generation small-town Kansas boy natural-fit Wildcat he lucked in to, and he's one of three bigs Oscar has brought on campus in six years who could charitably be called a P5 recruit (and one of those was only here one year because of the dread weed).

This team could be a contender next year with another big or solid small forward or both. Oscar's got to know that, and we've got a point guard in the pipeline.

I can't look where we're at and not think we'll be 3 to 4 games better next year barring a key injury to Wade, Brown or Sneed and maybe 3rd or 4th in conference. A good year but not a Texas Tech type year, either. Then it'll be rebuilding mode.

I really want to bring a coach who could bring energy to the program, chase off about four of the stiffs on the roster and plug in two or three pieces who could make 2018-19 real milestone year. That's the train I want to board.

Still 4th in the Big 12 :emawkid:

The problem is that this is as good as it's going to be. I give oscar credit for the ability to identify good, under recruited guards, he can't coach them. Positions, I think we are better than tech, talent wise, even if you think we aren't, we certainly aren't 20 points worse. I wanted oscar to coach this group as seniors, like Chris Beard is doing with his group now. I wanted oscar to get his young targets infused with veterans, like Chris Beard is doing with his group now. The problem is that oscar can gather a good group of guards, he's proven time and again that he can't identify or develop a big, but he can't coach like Chris Beard is doing with his group now.

I'll still cheer for these guys but it's time.

I’m also on team Meh.  I have no emotion after losses or wins this year.  Like you said, this is a bubble program as long as oscar is around.

It is apparent many fans feel the same way after seeing the empty seats on TV Saturday, and against a top 10 team nonetheless.

I'm #RideOrDie with #oscar.  If you can't handle him at his 20 point loss to Texas Tech, you don't deserve him at his play-in game win.  Pardon my french but that's the damn truth.

Nice road win. Sole possession of 4th place with the easiest remaining schedule.  Four Big 12 road wins and 6 true road wins over all.  Kam getting closer to 90%.  Still, who knows.  Every Big 12 game is a crap shoot.

My friend called me a purple pussy for bad mouthing Oscar, the Magnificent Wiener King.  He proceeded to remind me how everyone was predicking a last place finish.  A 4th place finish would be boner bonanza.  Yes I am on the bus,  Driving like a demon.  Honking the horn and flipping off Weber haters.  Full speed ahead for a thrilling wild ride.  Likely over a cliff, but it will be a hell of an explosion.  Live for the now you stupid bastards!!

I think we should allow everyone on board the oscar train, no matter their past, so long as they (1) are heartily sorry for ever having doubted oscar; (2) firmly intend never to doubt oscar again; and (3) promise to avoid any near occasion of doubting oscar.

“Sure we beat Kentucky but they were a 5 seed” “Yea we are in the final four but we had the easiest path in the history of the tournament. “
You're right, and we'll probably lose to UK anyway, but last year Gonzaga made the finals after beating a 16 seed and 8 seed (same as us so far), then a 4 seed (yay 1 seed better than UK) and then an 11 seed (we get 7 or 11 if we beat UK),  and finally a 7 seed in the F4 (9 would be the worst seed we could face if we got there).

Doubt the zags give a crap about the haters, and I wouldn't either.

I started rooting in earnest for the cats at halftime, and after the game I've decided to start over with oscar. He's done some real shitty stuff, but this kind of win deserves a consolation from his detractors.

I've always been wishy washy on oscar. Mostly don't like his coaching decisions, but I can't stand my ground on that while he's making an Elite 8 run.

i'm not saying my opinion will be correct but here's my assessment of where i'll be given the result:

miss tourney: fire oscar
first round loss: fire oscar
second round loss: fire oscar but i understand not firing him
sweet 16 loss: okay let's go
elite 8 loss: hell yeah oscar
final 4 loss: extend the hell out of him
champ game loss: lifetime contract
natty: statue

ugh damnit
