Title: Things to Do in Manhattan During the Summer
Post by: DQ12 on May 20, 2010, 03:46:45 PM
Planning on going to the pool a bunch.  Maybe the zoo.  Class starts in a couple weeks.

I'm planning on going out to Stampede.

Basically, I'm in Manhattan all summer with some bros.  Everything I've ever wanted, but there's just not a whole lot to do besides drink.

Any ideas?

Uh, so?

Your first mistake is deciding to go to Stampede.

Take up mountain biking. There are some cool trails around the area.
Hang out at Pillsbury
Get a boat and hang out at Tuttle
UC pool is fun
Get some friends together, claim you're step brothers and get a family membership at Wildcat Creek for $30/month

Never been, don't have tickets or anything yet, but I don't know.  It's like the one weekend where Manhattan has a bunch of people in it during the summer.

Good info otherwise.

drinking, doing nothing and going to class will easily fill up a whole summer.

I mean, I don't know where you're from so I don't know what kind of people you like or what music you're into.

In my eyes, Stampede is a music festival that plays the worst music and is made up of the worst people. Rednecks from all over Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Kansas flock to Tuttle Creek. It's the only time I've ever seen a woman with a dip in her mouth (and it's not just one woman). I'm sure some people can have fun at it but most Manhattanites I know dread the weekend that Stampede is here.

Stampede is awsome, haven't been since the first two but had a blast met some skanks from Hays and went skinny dipping in tuddle puddle.  Camped for the whole event a good time was had by all.

I'm with Daris on this though doing nothing will take a lot of your time so you should be good there.

Hate country, but went to the stampede one night when you didn't need a ticket to go to the campgrounds. It was awesome.

Play the Colbert Hills par 3 course.  Used to be $6 for 9, or $9 for all you could play.  LOVED it.

Summer is my fav time in Manhattan.

You realize you can do stuff like this without subjecting yourself to the Stampede right?  $!#*'ry Stampeed is horrible.  Then again if you like that kind of music then it will be enjoyable.

Manhattan in the summer is amazing.  There's the pool, hanging out at the lake, I had a sweet mountain bike (before it got stolen ), little or no waiting time to go to restaurants, hot waitresses hang out at your table and chat 'cause they're kinda bored, etc......

this was pretty much my daily routine every summer but include going to class and aggieville.
summertime in the ville is for pounding babes you otherwise wouldn't have pounded (both good and bad ones) and boozing.

also add to the list:  ice bros

-Hang out at city park playing tennis and baseball   :gocho:

-drive around on anderson/bluemont and not stop at any lights because there's no traffic  :driving:

-sit on the patio of salty rim and  :drink: (amazing back patio btw, there and porters)

-play yard drinking games   :pbj:

If these don't keep you busy all summer you're doing something wrong

This. But I go to So Long the most during the summer while there's no line. It's probably the biggest turn around from always a 30 min wait, to being seated and eating in 5 mins. Love it.

Never been there either. The guy that runs the place always plays in Aggieville and hes kind of a darsh, but decent band. I'll put that on the to do list for the summer though, along with buy a gun, and get really good at guitar, and pass Physics II.

No traffic, less douchery in aggieville, softball, drinking, drinking on patios, lakes/pools - Manhattan in the summer is absolutely amazing and by far the best time

And I don't know if Stampede sucks or not - I've never been so I won't judge.  That said, the people that flock here to go to it certainly suck

as an absolute veteran manhattan summerer, i spend a lot of my summer at the movie theater. don't believe the hype - 'hattan has a reasonably decent movie theater ever since they redid it, and other than getting smashed for no reason, there's nothing better to do on a week night. and if a big movie comes out and has a midnight sneak preview on a wednesday or something, jump all over that.

It use to be a lot of fun when it wasn't so crowded, there weren't so many cops, & you could actually get into the campsite w/o actually camping or having a ticket. actually the campsite was the #1 reason to go.

I've twice now this summer floated down the river from the highway 24 bridge over the Big Blue to either the St. George boat ramp, or to the boat ramp under the bridge in Wamego... St. George is a single day trip, Wamego tends to require camping on a random sand bar in the middle of the river or somewhere then finishing the float the next morning.

goEMAW 'Tan Experts:

I will be in the 'Tan on July 4th, but will be leaving at like negative fifteen o'clock in the morning the next day. What should I do to enjoy myself during July 4th in Americatown, America/

If I were you, I would go to Junction City and see if I could find someone to Take Me Home Tonight

http://www.sundownsalute.org/EddieMoney.html

*EDIT* - Nevermind, the 4th is Journey/U2 Trib bands (still could be quite awesome)

Are you floating on an innertube or in a canoe? Have floated on an innertube down Deep Creek w/ some bros that post on the board. Extremely fun.

Get drunk and blow crap up?

 :dunno:

We borrowed 1 canoe from the rec or whatever to act as a guide, then just tied off 4 or 5 rafts behind it. The canoe also acts as a convenient place to throw your empty cans to help keep our rivers in the pristine condition that they are in.

The first one cannot be overstated.  All of the sudden the clicks you ran with are back in KC and you have a whole new batch of gals to swing with.  During the school it is all Chi-o's and tri delts but summer comes around and LSOC is rocking it with AZ's and pi-phis.  totally wild stuff.

Last night Rusty's had $1.99 well pitchers. And they were not weak (allegedly, I did not consume any).

Yeah I think Kites started doing that a couple years ago. It caused the Ville to hit a whole new level of Pak'd.

there's just not a whole lot to do besides drink.

Yes. Gators always look like they're smiling and up to something ornery.
