This is the official thread for those who feel like they need to make amends to Alex Delton for the hurtful things that they have said about him, or impure thoughts about Alex Delton's quarterbacking of the KSU Cats.
I personally have never doubted Alex, so this is not a thread for me, but is a thread by me for you (you know who you are). Now, who here must repent?
-
I’ve been #TeamDelts since day 1, but I can understand why people may not have been. When comparing a super stud athlete to a scrawny white guy from Iowa, that’s pretty tough.

We have seen more of sky than delton this year.

Well I said he should have transferred but not because I didn't believe in him, I didn't believe the coaches would let him play. Bazooka Joe was the backup last year, ffs.
-
after he ran for twenty billion yards in his first series last week i was sure this type of thread would never be for me, but now i think maybe this is a thread i can call home for a while.
-

That was a dumb move by the coaches
-
he doesn't look that bad, actually. maybe we suck because of all the other players.
-
btw, did the last qb finally get braindeaded or was he benched?

Torn meniscus

well, that's good for his future brain function, at any rate.

Delton not good

Delton not good
He's fine. Snyder is mostly terrible at preparing quarterbacks in practice.
-
He's also a sophomore
-
These wide outs are worse than our OL.
-
His deep throws are pretty hot even if our receivers can't get to them

Or they stop in their route. Would be nice if a FB or RB would pick up the blitz. Two completions, one for a TD nullified by offensive PI. After the first couple of series, Alex has thrown it much better. Hasn’t had time to really do so though.
He trippin' so much, fans gonna begin to think he done fell off!

Delton not good

The pass that we finally got a pi call on traveled over 60 yards in the air.

he aaron rodgered one right through schoens hands on a bit of a slant late in the first half too, his arm strength is not too shabby.

And was pretty much perfectly placed
-
Hard to be good when you're handicapped with a suspiciously bad pass-blocking O-Line, RB's/FB's not picking up the blitzes, and the bird brained OC.
-
I thought Delton did fine for his first start.
Delton's pocket presence seems wanting, tho. Is he yinging for Ertz's yang of getting flushed out at the drop of a hat?
-

A lot is the offensive line. The loss of Johnson and then Najvar have been bigger losses than I anticipated. I know teams load the box, but they did last year down the stretch and we simply aren't getting the same push at the LOS. I think the plan was to pick up where we left off with a better passing game, but that suspect oline play combined with receiver drops has left Dimel with no real answer. The offense is simply a shell of what it was last year.
-
I have faith that our o-line will improve throughout the year. I do not have the same faith in Delton's ability to see the field and make quick decisions.

You've decided he can't improve when he never played a meaningful snap before a week ago?
-
I'm sure he can improve a little, but is it too much to ask to have a newcomer that just comes out of nowhere and is a huge stud right from the beginning? Like Tom Brady. Or those guys at Ohio State a couple years ago. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Snyder has always been pretty terrible at this.

He can absolutely improve. I just don't have high hopes for the things I mentioned.

He's had great freshman players at pretty much every position except qb

He hasn't even had a good sophomore QB. Ell was pretty close but he was benched for Dunn half the time. Sams was pretty close too.

Ell looked electric but his sophomore passing numbers were poo.

Yeah. Lots of rough turnovers, too. Not entirely unlike Sams.

He's bill's highest recruited QB in his existence of coaching, but keep playing dumb. It's what you do best.
-
Oh yeah and good job delts, that was fun.
-
highest recruiting qb
-
I mean, congrats on running Delton to a W against literally the worst rush defense he will see in his college career, but sorry he is not our guy and for his own long term health I sincerely hope he’s not back next year.
-
Hey catastrophe, scoreboard son!

highest recruiting qb
weird

i like both our options at QB moving forward. i doubt this is a novel point, but i think lastnight will probably be a good thing for Thompson moving forward. he's got work to do if he wants the job moving forward.
also, Delton's speed is unreal. thompson needs to be VERY good at what he does if he wants the job next year. in any event, Delton should be getting snaps every game - that guy is an absolute weapon.
-
According to Sky Bombs, he believes he is the most talented, but has a lot of work to do on pre-snap QB things.

I am THIS close to voting to make Dlew the new dictator of all of K-State.

I agree with this
-
I agree with it in principle, but we’ve been on this ride already. Sky doesn’t even have to out perform Delton to win the job, he just has to wait for the inevitable injury that will come when we are consistently running Delton into a stacked box in Big 12 play.
Delton would have to make strides in the passing game offseason, but he’s got a lot more issues than 2011 Klein did.
-
If Delton’s healthy, then play him. If he’s not, play Sky. If, IF, Sky gets to the point where he gives us a better chance to win, then play Sky.
-
I would play them both in every game
-
I like the idea, but Waters/Sams was just such a CF. I’d never advocate for that again.
-
FTR - an exciting new OC could change my thoughts, but right now I still just wanna see our best passer (and known clutch player) to develop in game situations.
-
Still think Sky is the guy for next year but it's fun to have some QB competition and controversy for next year!
-

Right. It doesn't need to be complicated.

well that's because Waters/Sams was handled poorly.

same, I'd also like to see our better-rusher-than-Ell QB get snaps in games, too.
-
CAS and i were thinking last night, was that the longest QB run we've had since '03?
-
Someone should change out all the game film from this year to the 2006 Florida title team in vanier
-
Delton was so fast on the scramble it looked like he was playing a different game than everyone else.
-
CAS and i were thinking last night, was that the longest QB run we've had since '03?
probably since 2002! Ell didn't have any longer than 70 in 03.
-
Wowza!

Having your QB, that's already had multiple concussions, as your primary runner is not a plan for long-term (or possibly even short-term) success.
He's going to get hit, hit hard and possibly hit dirty. Defenses know he's one hit away from another concussion and if you don't think they'll try to put him out of a game, your nuts.
RBs will not want to come to KSU. Why should they.
TE's will not want to come to KSU unless they enjoy being the sixth OL.
WO's will not want to come to KSU unless they think the best way to the NFL is through receiving punts and KO's.
Good to great QB's will not want to come to KSU and get abused the way we abuse our QBs.
I'm sorry, I like Delton and think he's a hell of a competitor but he's one significant hit away from having his playing career ended. True leadership by our AD and Athletic Department would question what we're doing to our QBs and as the HC, LHC Bill Snyder needs to answer those questions.
A win last night was way better than a loss (duh!) but you seriously have to ask yourselves whether or not the way we play is really a good direction for the program. I don't think it is.

Every player is one hit away from having their career ended.
That said, I kind of get your point -- I think our offense exposes the QB to injury too often which has derailed our season several times in the last 5 years. Even so, since Bishop, the QB run game has always been a significant part of K-State's offense. If we have the tools to feature the QB run game prominently (i.e. Delton), then we'd be foolish not to use it. Do I think Delton (or any QB) should be running 30+ times a game? Probably not. And I'd like us to cool it with running pipsqueak QBs between the tackles.
But spare me the crying about QBs not wanting to play in an offense that prominently features the QB run. Plenty of programs prominently feature the QB run game in their spread. Look at Marcus Mariota.
Does our offense handicap us from recruiting the next 5 Star, drop back passer? Probably so, but as long as there are great running QBs (like Delton) coming out of high school, then I think K-State is an attractive option for them.

Army threw the ball 10 times this season and won 10 games. Obviously we just need to go back to the wishbone or just run QB option/the Wildcat every play. If Army can do it, than so can we!
Sat near a guy at the bar last night who from the beginning of the game screamed at the TV's every time Delton or Sky dropped back to pass... was telling his buddies we should "never throw the ball and just stick to the basics and running the ball, classic downhill hardnose running. Snyder Football." Seemed to have a big man crush on Winston Dimel.

Barnes had 117 yards last night, running back recruits will see that and be like "hard pass"
and LOL when have our TE's under Snyder ever been anything but sixth OL's
