After an 18 year partnership, 610 Sports Radio will no longer be the play-by-play home for KU Athletics. KU’s desire to be the primary focus of the radio station would have compromised our commitment to the extensive partnership we have with Major League Baseball in Kansas City. That wasn’t something we were willing to accommodate.
While we will no longer be the play-by-play home, this opportunity provides more flexibility to provide even better KU coverage in certain ways. We thank KU Athletics for a phenomenal run and wish them success going forward.

Several years ago, I remember Keitzman went on a rant after a caller wanted them to talk more KU, KSU, Mizzou and less Royals, and this was when the Royals were pretty bad/below average. Keitz said that regardless of how bad the Royals were, their ratings dwarfed any college team they put on the radio. Same with the Chiefs.
I would imagine that is exponentially more truthful now than it was then. I'm not surprised they pushed back on KU.
I could see 810 scooping them up, but I think that will be difficult to manage on their part. IMG and Learfield are going to have expectations that won't be met by sharing airtime on the same station, so there may be a situation where someone gets pushed to a sister station. Isn't their sister station something like Hot Talk 1510 or something like that?

I do enjoy listening in the afternoons, it's a small thing that helps me power through the afternoon, sue me. I also want to point out I don't think it was a good reason to stop liking k-state, but I also could find myself stop liking a school/team that pseudo held my interest cause someone/something I like all the sudden became something I didn't care for. Me not wanting to like the cardinals anymore after McGuire was an open roider pops into my mind.

there were a few seasons where they were dual broadcasts on AM and FM. 810 and 97.3 I think. Also there was a season or 2 around like 2010/2011 where 610 would broadcast all the games EXCEPT sundays when they'd be whatever FM station was their sister station. Was dumb.

Maybe. I think there could be two things at play here...
1. 810 doesn't really have a flaghsip brand. Now they have one. IMG will push a ton of content, which is good for 810 because, let's face it, I think fifteen people listen to TJ Carpenter (if he's still on), and most of them probably tune in so their dogs have something to listen to so they feel like a human is talking to them when the person leaves the room.
2. Chad Boeger is a big KU guy. Big. He was going to do what he needed to do to make this happen. Also, he's not a great businessman, so even if there are penalties with Learfield, he'll pay them and just find a shady way to pay for it.

If I'm on the road, I listen. So maybe once or twice per year. I also listen to pregame stuff if I'm going to the store to get some supplies for the game sometimes. If I'm at home, there is no way I'm turning the radio on. The game could not be televised and I still wouldn't listen to it at home.

I listen to cat bball coverage on the way home from work. I also listen to pregame football coverage driving around town to meet up with my bros, fam, etc. Booze run at halftime? Cool, sounds like I have to listen to kickoff on the way back in my uber. I mean, it matters and stuff.

None taken at all. I get it. When i'm out eating on a Sunday and some bad person is going crazy over some random team IDGAF about goes crazy (Vikings fans for an example), it annoys the crap out of me. When I did that around cf3 tho, I was at least at a K-State bar.

I honestly never listen to games on the radio, especially cat games. My phone streams video. Even in a vehicle I would rather connect to my car and listen to a TV stream.
So wherever Kstate lands for games i really don't care. They will get same coverage on daytime radio. KK might cover them more to piss off his new viewers.

It's those kinds of games that are just the funnest and we don't get them very much anymore.
That's what was so great about Snyder 1.0. A bunch of games where somebody thought that hey had a shot, had been on a little roll, catching K-State coming off a tough loss, and K-State would just go crush their soul.

It's free sports entertainment, man. It's fun if you don't take it too seriously. We like talking trade deadlines, Stan takes, and player interviews. It's a small market city that carries two legit sports radio stations. It's a great thing for this part of the country.

On regular sports talk radio it gets some coverage, but it's not a centerpiece by any stretch.
I've been spending a lot more time in the heart of SEC country, and it's all college football all the time, with a little NFL sprinkled in.
I understand why the KC stations talk a lot about the Royals, but it just goes on and on and on.
