In Septemberish, I'll be looking for a place in the KC area. I know next to nothing about the city. What parts of town should I look? I'm looking for a studio or loft type situation. The new job won't have me rolling in the dough, but I'd also like to avoid living in a neighborhood that I'll hate.
Thanks for any advice or leads on good landlords and parts of town.

What do you want to be close to? Booze? Food? Job? Highways?
-
Good food. Parks. I don't mind a commute to work and as long as a highway is within 10 minutes.
Noise isn't a huge issue for me. As in I can sleep through a lot. Road traffic noise. Not bar scene noise.
The Grocers Warehouse lofts look super dreamy but I'm assuming out of my price range. I'm going to get more info about them.

I was planning in renting the downstairs of where I'm currently staying. I still may. It'll be cheap. 500/month. No central air and no dishwasher. The complex up the street has had a shooting recently and I heard a lot of fighting there the other night. So I'm thinking less about that location. It would have been great to have my upstairs neighbor be a good friend and it's close to Roanoke park.

You don't want to live near Roanoke Park

FSD is a gigantic idiot, that's a great neighborhood
-
Yeah. The complex I'm referencing (woodbridge) seems to be an anomaly in the area

River Market bud. So much to do there and you're close to everything. Also, if you're not rolling in the dough, they have awesome rent controlled spots there. I miss living there so much.
-
That's actually super close to work. My boss recommended a new complex there (near work as well) that a coworker lives in. Will check it out.
They took me out to lunch Friday in River Market.

River market is a solid choice.

we had friends that lived in Woodbridge for several years until about 4 years ago, they had no issues
-
river market or crossroads if you're looking for a loft / city living. can't go wrong, really.

Thanks for the advice. I'm super poor though guys. Any idea what lofts down there go for? I mean I'll message for more info, I'm just trying to brace for the let down.

May be it's just a few people? I don't know. There was a shooting and I hear yelling from time to time there.

$1.25 square foot is probably the cheapest downtown rental unless you can get income restricted places....you can see the income max for income restricted on this site: http://www.pblofts.com/apartments/

Ok. Thank you. I may have to look outside of the city. :frown: thanks for the advice though guys.

Try Gillam or Rosedale Park for equally substandard housing

I did a plaza to downtown walk one spring morning and walk through this park and right by that apartment complex....cool story!
