The NYT is firing about 50 editors, about a 50% reduction, which isn't too newsworthy in and of itself, but shockingly they're being complete dicks about it.

Editors and reporters decry the lack of transparency Times management has shown in its plans to restructure its operation, which includes consolidating the two separate groups of editors into one group and asking copy editors to resubmit applications for roles in the newsroom.
The editors said they actually feel more respected by readers than by management, and reference an internal report in which the copy editors were compared to dogs urinating on fire hydrants.

Short answer: no, it's easy to say it's liberal media going down, but really it's print media in general that's been going down for the better part of decade.
Also, people upset about losing their jobs? Color me shocked.

Ok, to be fair, my topic question was just a joking reference to the Fox News one. Print media (media in general) has all sorts of problems unrelated to the Trumpster. I mainly just thought it was interesting that NYT is laying off folks in a pretty dickish way. An internal memo comparing editors to dogs pissing on fire hydrants (what does that even mean)? Making everybody re-apply for half the number of jobs rather than doing an evaluation of who to keep and who to fire? They're effectively firing every editor and rehiring half of them.

Not sure if you've noticed, but the NYT isn't exactly the Goodland Star-Democrat, it has an enormous online presence that is miserably failing (as evidenced by mass "elitist style" firings), because it has no credibility and its editorial board has been mailing it in for decades.
But yeah, keep telling yourself the shortcomings of the "paper of record" are the same as the Pratt newspaper.
