Anybody have experience with these? Apparently I don't get to keep my lawn "guy" and will have to be mowing again. New lawn is very small and was wanting to get either a cordless battery powered or a corded electric. Only negatives reviews I saw were that if you get behind on mowing (which I always do) it is kind of a bitch for these things.

I was a "give" in the "give and take" for the hot tub.
-
think i'd rather not mow, then spend my time repairing my broken hot tub
-
I've heard for small yards (like maybe a few thousand square feet or less) the li-ion cordless work pretty good as long as the grass isn't wet or too long. Unless you have a tiiiiny yard you don't want to screw with a corded mower going back and forth.
I've got a Ryobi cordless string trimmer and love it. One less engine to maintain. My middle lower upper class size yard is way too big to mow electric, tho.

Was legit thinking about it. did not know you could still bag with them. The only negative is that it doesn't mulch at all. I like the clippings getting tucked in under the grass. Really holds the moisture.

Dethatching is a myth much like winterization of the sprinklers.

I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a new self propelled mower or go through the hassle of finding a mowing person
-
I have a cordless electric mower, though yet to fully test it on my house's lawn, see how I just got it in January. It's a pretty small yard though. The guy I bought it from had a yard about 1.5x mine and said it had just enough charge to do that. Confidence high.
-
What are the benefits to an electric mower?
-
You charge it instead of gas'in it
-
What are the benefits to an electric mower?
No gas, oil, or maintenance. Quiet.
-
See if you can find a remote control version.
-
My gas mower uses about 2 gallons of gas per year and I do nothing to maintain it other than adding a little bit of fuel stabilizer to the gas can when I refill it. I've never added oil or changed it and have had no issues for about 5 years now.
-

Like a roomba for the yard? I think they have them and you bury a wire like those dog things.

FreundinSonntag had an electric mower and the first time she used it it over heated cutting through her overgrown yard and started smoking.

You've gone five years on the original spark plug? Wow. Also, you don't have to change your oil every year but five years is pushing it. Have you at least sharpened your blade during the time?
-
yards are one of the biggest scams out there and you suckers are stuck hook line and sinker, sad

No. It's a small yard. If my blade ever gets too dull to do a good job, I'll just buy a new blade and screw it on. The first time I fire it up in the spring, it takes a few extra tugs on the pull string, but otherwise, it usually starts right up.
This mower cost about $150 brand new. So I'm spending about $35 per year to mow, including fuel cost. I don't really want to add much maintenance to that because anything would be a significant addition to the overall cost.
-
lawn mower maintenance? gmafb
-
I do have to say that electric mowers are a lot cheaper than I expected them to be and I might consider one when my mower stops working. Does anyone have one they have been using for more than a few years? How long does the battery last before it stops holding a decent charge and how much do replacements cost?
-
My previous lawn mower was one that lasted for 15 years and in that entire time I only changed the spark plug and air filter once, sharpened the blade once and never changed the oil at all, only added some when it got low.

If u change your lawnmower oil even once then lol you're an idiot
-
Don't buy electric yard equipment, good grief. If you can clean dirt from under your fingernails you have enough skill and common sense to maintain gas powered, plus gas powered has actually sufficient powet to cut grass.
If you're objective is to tickle your grass and get pissed off at how useless your equipment is, buy electric

My neighbor uses one of those old timey push lowers, and I can feel his judging eyes on me when I'm mowing my lawn with my mower that spews smoke every time I use it.

I have literally done zero maintenance to my lawnmower since it was new in 2006. Well I replaced the blade once. I also never drain or burn off the gas end of season.
-
Eliminate the mower altogether.

I have an electric mower for our small yard and it is great. If you want a Binford 10,000 to cut your half acre, go nuts. If you have a small lawn like me and Gooch, just order the one from Amazon with the best reviews. The cord was a nuisance for about 30 seconds and then you figure it out and everything is fine.
Do not recommend a reel mower. Gross. I have one, it is worthless. If you get behind on lawn work (which I do, and the electric handles it fine), you're certainly never going to take that blade thing in to get it sharpened.

Never changed my oil because I'd rather just buy a new mower, but I've had to replace the spark plug several times and I sharpen the blade several times a year because I have a bench grinder and I mow close to half an acre something like 30x a year. I like mowing and other manual labor as a break from thinking all day at work.
-
30x a year lol chump. I mow like 6 times a year

Pre-emergent + drip irrigation. Sit back and watch your neighbor chumps mow their lawns.

mowing the lawn looks a million times easier. i can hardly even get two miller lite pounders down before it's time to go inside

Yeah. I have some landscaping and it is a pain in the ass. I couldn't imagine replacing my whole lawn with that.

Turf is probably good for being low maintenance (and I hear it's good for mosquitoes too), but it's going to look pretty rough ridin' stupid when it's bright green in the winter.

It's really not that difficult. But if you insist on having grass, go with something like buffalo grass. Very hardy and requires little mowing/maintenance.
With UC Verde Buffalograss you can mow your lawn every 3-4 weeks for a manicured look or not at all with a maximum height of 6?

Gooch I have the Greenworks 19" 40V battery powered mower and the 40V weed eater. My yard is only about 2500 sq feet. I have 2 batteries but one will mow the yard and weedeater. Takes about 40 minutes for all. I've used them for 2 years and they are great. I get the blade sharpened twice a year. Works like a champ, light, fairly quiet. No issues. I also have the leaf blower, trimmer, and chain saw. Happy with all of them.

I used to use a reel mower when I had a smaller lawn and I loved it. Mowing was a quiet and peaceful thing to do like going for a walk. Since I didn't make noise I could mow at 7 am in July when it was cool out instead of the evening when it was still 100 degrees.

Unless you live on acres of land without a well to irrigate, why would you go with buffalo grass? It doesn't break dormancy until late sprig and goes dormant in early fall - you want a brown yard 6 months of the year?
Kentucky Bluegrass is the the most beautiful choice if you can afford to irrigate it. If not, make do with the Kansas tall fescue blend.
I put down heavy nitrogen late last fall and it is paying dividends this spring. Lawn was already quite green this week and it's going to be lush after these t-storms. God bless thunder storms - free nitrogen!
Oh and back on topic - I'm hoping to go electric when I replace my mower in a couple years. Mainly it's the noise I could do without. The techs not quite there for a yard of my size yet.
-

No fertilizer, you can spray roundup on it in the spring for weed control, only have to mow about 10 times per year to look nice, needs very little irrigation to stay green. It makes a lot of sense in an arid climate. I wouldn't recommend it in eastern Kansas, though.

“I looked like a genius,” Oblak said. The buffalo-grass mix “was awesome in the drought. Even with my flower garden, my water bill was never over a hundred bucks. I had to water the fescue and the flowers. We did water the buffalo a little bit ... When it started to dry out we’d water, and it would turn green again for a couple weeks. It looked gorgeous to the end.”
“It doesn’t grow as fast as fescue,” Oblak said. Even with the rainy weather, her husband mowed the buffalo only every other week.

Electric mowed my entire front and backyard yesterday. Even on "high power mode" it's quiet enough to listen to music/podcasts. My only complaint with it is it's cutting path it a little too narrow for my tastes, but easy enough to adjust.
