bbq? ok i guess
plain? low salt?
the jalapeño art and mary's are great
but when the rubber hits the road i think it's salt and vinegar by a country mile :gocho:

Sea salt and cracked pepper are right up there

Salt and vinegar

I tried some Moscow mule chips this week, they were kinda gross
-
the potato chips in spain are crazy good
-
Are corn based chip materials allowed itt (in this thread), or is this just for potato fellating?
-
1. Sea salt and vinegar
2. Jalapeno
3. Sweet onion
Also, kettle cooked > regular.

I like all potato chips.
Sour cream and cheddar sing a nice song on Ruffles. Maybe it's the ridges?
Vinegar is either totally hitting the spot for me, or offensive. Odd that way.
Spent some time in South Africa, and they have a Peri Peri chip that is zesty, which I liked.

can't beat a kettle jalapeno chip in this guy's book

Art and Marys jalapeno are definitely GOAT chips. I didn't much like salt and vinegar until I tried Art and Marys S&V and now I like that when I don't feel like spicy food.

Not sure that is Japan crap. It's crap tho.

Did you know that if you pair a kettle cooked sea salt & cracked pepper potato chip with an apple slice, it is very delicious?
-
The Kroger Prime Rib and Horseradish potato chips are legit.

Jalapeno kettle are very good though.
I know that there is a "this thing needs to be name brand to be good" thread, but IMO chips are one of those things.

Classic chips nicely salted are No. 1.
Do like A&M Jalapeno tho.

I like the burned Classic ones.

custom fresh chips probably don't count but MHK cozy burger chips were my jam jam jam

Classic Lay's with jalapeno and cheese dip is the right answer. Definitely shame yourself material but I eat this as a meal at least once a month. I also love lays sour cream and cheddar.
Anyone try the new beer & brat chips?

I prefer chips with RIDGES. Whether that be RUFFLES, WAVY LAYS or some generic brand with RIDGES, I believe that RIDGES make a sturdier, more palate pleasing chip. #RIDGES
-
Ah yes, ridges. Ruffles cheddar sour cream ridges are my fav ridge chip. Good contribution _33
-
Lays Limón flavored are underrated IMO
-
I feel like ridges are fancier but for me they aren't better. too much flavor gets lost in the creases that my tongue (flavor receptor) can't ever get to.
-
i strongly dislike ridges/wavy chips but if someone wants to make a case for them, this is the thread to do it in and i'm happy to listen
what's the point of the potato ridge/wave? "hey i'm different than a regular chip so i'm somehow better?" gmafb
-
i think the point is they are sturdier and better for dipping. if you were eating some dip, and your choice is classic lay or wavy lay, if you choose classic you might as well get used to licking dip off your fingers the entire time
-
i'd almost opine that chips with ridges/waves aren't really potato chips but i won't. no- no i won't. i'll let you guys have your fun with your deformed mongloidian chip.
-
you want to know how to work a dip like a pro w/ a regular non wavy chip? put it into the dip and then move it's skinny side through the dip instead of trying to scoop the dip up. then simply lift the chip straight up out of the dip and it will have a perfect amount of dip with the chip still being fully intact. then put the chip into your mouth with the dip side on the left or right instead of front or back. that way you are getting equal sides of the chip delivered to your tongue (flavor receptor) in equal doses.
-
I'm sorry I didn't know that classic 'tato chips weren't deformed too. Guess you learn something new every day
-
i strongly dislike ridges/wavy chips but if someone wants to make a case for them, this is the thread to do it in and i'm happy to listen
lol hmmmm, OK, let's see if I can make a case for them:
1. The ridges allow for a greater surface area of the chip. The advantage of this is twofold:
I. The greater surface of a chip the greater amount of flavoring can be added, thus increasing the flavor profile. (For most people when you crunch the chip with your teeth it breaks apart the ridges and allows your flavor receptors in your tongue access to the flavorings. Not sure if Rick Daris is just swallowing his chips whole?)
II. The greater surface area provided by the ridges allows for more chip in every bite.
2. Waves act like corrugation, reinforcing the structure of the chip to prevent breakage. Again, the advantage of this is twofold:
I. Chips were made to dip. The ridges reinforce the chips structure to allow for heartier dips. It allows for maximum dip on each chip and avoids the need for "double dipping" thus decreasing the spread of germs and harmful bacteria in a community bowl.
II. The reinforced structure holds up under shipment and handling from manufacturer to grocery store and from grocery store to home. What does this mean for you? A bag full of whole, dippable chips. If you enjoy half a bag of undippable crumbs filling up the bottom of your bag then maybe ridges aren't for you.
3. Texture. This question relies on how you define taste. Some people would like to define "taste" in terms of the proportional balance between sweet/salty/sour/bitter. I personally think that's a little restrictive, because it doesn't account for texture, and it is in texture that the difference between ridged and flat chips is most evident. With ridged chips, what you have is the simulation of a "thicker" cut without actually using more potato than you would in a regular chip of comparable XY dimensions. Therefore you get the feel of a "gourmet" thick cut potato chip.
It is for these reasons that I believe RIDGES to be a beneficial trait to potato chips that increases flavor, dipability and texture.

33 you should create a new innovative office paper or something, corrugated of course, because you can fit more paper in a box.
Fine. But there is more chip per bite.

If you haven't tried them you won't be disappointed. Also tend to be under 2 bucks a bag so you can't be the price.

yeah, i'm really not buying the surface area argument. it'd be like crumpling a piece of a potato paper into a ball and frying it up and it being good b/c of the surface area. the science just doesn't work.
-
Dip? Seems pretty amateur hour to me

I think his point about texture is spot on. Texture matters in food 'clams.

These and RUFFLES cheddar and sour cream are the best. Munchos are great if you need a quick fix.
Things that don't belong in the chip world are the Chocolate potato chips that lays sells.
I have also been wanting to try the Pico De Gallo Potato Chips that lays sells but i can't find them.

The science absolutely works. My guess is you either are too dumb to understand it, or you are ignoring sound science in favor of the anti-ridges echo chamber you've created in this thread. Sad.

I prefer the regular chip format over the wavy format. I'm not a total anti-wavite though. Wavy chips are better for dipping but a nicely flavored chip shouldn't need to be dipped IMO.
-
Yup, chip dip is for chip posers
-
Good grief how can you not like chip dips? Who doesn't like at least one of the following:
Salsa
Beans
Guac
Ranch
Queso
Spinach-Artichoke
Caramelized Onion Dip
Pico
Corn/sour cream dip
And on and on and on
-
dips are for people who eat inappropriately seasoned or malseasoned chips

I like a good potato chip.

Can we talk about Sun "Chips" for sec? They can get the eff out of my face, that's what they can do.

sun chips should be sued for fraud. marketed to the masses as a healthy alternative to the standard potato chip, the sun chip has caused more early deaths from heart attacks in one year than all other chips combined since the early chips were invented. it's almost unreal.

i don't remember them being marketed as healthy. the "made with real potato skins" doesn't mean that the surgeon general is mowing down a bag a night. unlike sun chips claims.
-
guess what? i like sun chips. also potato skins. also dip. also chips w/o dip. even fritos. wavy, ridges, regular. i like all chips. ama.

Any of the "skin" varieties. The idea being, you're eating just the "skin" or peel of the potato so it's a healthy snack. Still drenched in fat/sodium.

"kettle" chips made out of solid granite and/or cast iron? yeah they're not my favorite but i'm also not going to throw away the bag without hoovering every single crumble large enough to be visible with the naked eye into my mouth

the problem with GS SC's is the bag is always too small. this is a good example of a chip that doesn't need a dip, tho.
-
SUN CHIPS SUCK male genitals AND BALLS
-
chips also taste great no matter what type of substance you've been putting into your body beforehand. pounded 3 coffees this morning? snag a bag of original lay's. smashed 26 coors lights on the links this afternoon? enjoy a double fistful of cool ranch doritos, friend. did you accidentally finish that 750 of basil hayden's? no prob bro you've earned yourself a popcorn bowl size helping of lay's wavy bbq, each chip holding a blob of ae mexican sour cream dip. wow.

Whoever works at the Frito Lay plant please run a batch wherein most of the chips are burned/brown and send them to me thx.
-
Emo, we took a tour in middle school and they said the brown ones were potatos that got too much sunlight and started to grow crap while in storage.
Maybe that was the green ones actually
-
Lays Wasabi kettle chips were so good. Miss them.
-
I bet that was the green ones. Those are gross.
-
thoughts on baked chips?
I used to think they were alright, but now I think they're gross. Worse than Pringles. It's not like they just bake a regular potato chip, they dehydrate potatoes and grind them into mush/flakes then rehydrate and press those back together into a chip form. It's wrong.
-
Can we talk about Sun "Chips" for sec? They can get the eff out of my face, that's what they can do.
No truer words
-
Wow, someone had the biggest brain fart of all time and forgot French onion dip.
-
the crunchy taco lays aren't bad
-
roasted corn
-
so the j-spec domestic version of pringles is called ChipStar
and inside the tube, the chips are sealed in an extremely thick and tough plastic wrapper, so you have to unwrap the chips and then put them back in the tube.
but the problem is the wrapper is so tough you are guaranteed to shatter all the chips trying to get it open
-
Just got caught up on this thread, wow, what an emotional roller coaster! 'ssclams I just have one question... It seems like publicly you're a po-tay-to guy but when nobody is around, nobody watching, do you ever fire up the ol' po-tah-to and take it for a spin around the block?

The original Doritos flavor is Nacho Cheese, though other flavors have since debuted for the company. Doritos originated in a restaurant at Disneyland

The original toasted corn chips were released nationally in 1966 and marketed under the Spanish-sounding name “Doritos.” An early television commercial for Doritos called them “a swinging, Latin sort of snack.”

well, i stopped by the wal-mart by joe’s kc, the fairway hen house, and sunfresh in deathport, today looking for these mysterious potato chips that you claim to exist and something funny happened. no one sold them.
so either something really strange is going on, especially since that wal-mart sells every chip known to mankind. or maybe you’re just rough ridin' with us. i tend to think that you’re rough ridin' with us, you little son of a bitch.
sure there’s a couple more stops I plan on making tomorrow in search of the “queso chip” but to be completely honest I doubt these things even exist.

Me and my old lady make a jalapeno sour cream sauce that we put on our breakfast tacos and some other things. Well the other day I had a wild hair and dipped a ruffle in it.... and it was extremely satisfying. I immediately looked up if this has ever been a chip flavor (gE effect daily life combo post?) and found there is a Ruffles jalapeno ranch. Has anyone had them? I bet they're way too ranchy...but I bet a jalapeno sour cream would be dope.

I immediately looked up if this has ever been a chip flavor (gE effect daily life combo post?) and found there is a Ruffles jalapeno ranch. Has anyone had them? I bet they're way too ranchy...but I bet a jalapeno sour cream would be dope.
i stopped by target on ward parkway today looking for queso chips. they didn't have any but they did have your jalapeno ranch chips. i didn't get any.
agreed with the idea of them probably being too damn ranchy.
known massive stud, libliblibliblibliblib brought me a bag to our PAK last night.
looking forward to my review? I bet.
