kicked ass at Marquette and then:
2008–09 Indiana 6–25 1–17 11th
2009–10 Indiana 10–21 4–14 T–9th
2010–11 Indiana 12–20 3–15 11th
2011–12 Indiana 27–9 11–7 5th NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2012–13 Indiana 29–7 14–4 1st NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2013–14 Indiana 17–15 7–11 T–8th
2014–15 Indiana 20–14 9–9 T–7th NCAA Round of 64
2015–16 Indiana 27–8 15–3 1st NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2016–17 Indiana 15–12 5–9
Indiana was decent the year before he took over so not sure why first year was so shitty.
-
dumb hair, annoying person, do not want
-
Feels like we would be getting another oscar, which would further set the program back. One could make the argument that this would be more analogous to Rich Rod at Arizona in football, which would be an improvement over oscar IMO.

IU was a mess when Crean took over. Like KU football bad. Still don't want tho.

Will be available. I think a HPOA
I have met him, and know quite a few people who know him. I have nothing good to say about him. Nothing.
-
i'll reserve judgment until jakesie and j-dub are interviewed

He is absolutely a bigger weirdo than oscar, like no contest.
-
crap, nm then you jerks
-
He is absolutely a bigger weirdo than oscar, like no contest.
Totally agree. He's super weirdo jerk city, man. Plus, all he's ever really done is recruit Dwayne Wade and deploy an offense that let Wade shoot like crazy. He's what we thought Dana Altman was, after "he'd only recruited Mitch." But, Dana is actually more than that, and Crean really is just that.
-
If you blindfolded his and Weber's resumes, you'd have a hard time picking who is who.

It's split. The fans almost unanimously want him out but he has a huge buyout. I've heard they may target greggggggg

I bet oscar would.take the IU gig. Creen headed to SEC Gritsland.

2012–13 Indiana 29–7 14–4 1st NCAA Sweet Sixteen

2016–17 Indiana 15–12 5–9
Can't remember if Coach Weber started 2012-13 or 13-14 - either way that's one more torn-a-ment than we've had during that time. At least he has a little passion - maybe he could be a mash-up of oscar & Frank? Probably an upgrade from oscar (he can recruit, right?), but would be pretty underwhelming. Unfortunately, if this is oscar's last lap around the track, I think we're in for an underwhelming choice anyway. Man, K-State basketball used to be so fun . . .  :bawl:
-
Crean wouldn't take this job anyways. There's not a competent coach in the country that will work under our AD. JFC, Bill is gonna try to whip cancer's ass (which he will), and still keep coaching at 98 if it means some pencil dick can't ruin the football program too.
-
I remember driving to Manhattan KS a few times, but don't remember whether you have information superhighways out there.
Indiana was decent the year before he took over so not sure why first year was so shitty.
Do you know about The Google?
-
He would definitely be an update. 3 Sweet 16s in the last 6 seasons is pretty good.
-
Crean has recruited very well to IU. They aren't good this year, but their best player has missed half the season and another would be senior starter is on a medical redshirt. Many boosters want him gone, but don't want to pay to buy him out right after buying Wilson out. He'll likely get one more year of Sweet 16 or bust.

-
he's recruited well to Indiana? what a chess master this guy must be.
-
He looks like a spazz to me
-
Crean would be a legit hire for K-State. Been to a few practices, like his offensive schemes. Looks like he is really missing McClain as his assoc. head coach. He would do really well here at K-State, looks like they are very poor defensively this year. His teams are always prepared for late game situations. He would recruit well here and win. How long would he stay is the real question.
-
They did beat KU this year.
Damn! He trippin' so hard fans are gonna think he done fell off!

Yeah, I don't think that would translate either, just a data point. He recruited pretty well to Marquette too though, 3 players drafted in 7 years.

The same logic used to hire oscar. You should demand more from your alma mater than a bargain bin retread.

Not really. Dudes not a loser, doesn't make excuses and brought IU out of the dumpster when he had like 5 scholly guys. I like his energy and leadership. Pretty sure oscar is not know for his ability to get his team to score the ball at a high efficiency.

I don't think its quite to oscar's level, but I get your point. I think Crean is a better version of oscar and just as good (probably better) than any hire from the mid major ranks this season.
I do think there there are problems there, as our old friend Gregg Doyel writes here: http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2017/02/12/doyel-crean-getting-tired-iu-team-fans/97753170/

What do you disagree with?
-
After reading that Doyel article, Indiana's season sounds a lot like oscar's last at Illinois. Maybe there isn't as much separation between the two as I thought.
-
What a condescending dorky bad person

Yeah, the more I read, the more I think he may be worse than oscar.
-
i would not root for a kstate team coached by creen.
-
Creen is an upgrade over Oscar like RuPaul is an upgrade over Sandra Bernhardt.
That being established, why torture ourselves with this debate? Currie is not going to fire Oscar, even if we do not make the uber-weak NCAA tournament.

in the oscar versus crean discussion, if results are what matter to you, and that's what should matter when you're discussing the coach of your team, then oscar is your guy. he's been winning more games, for longer, than your boy crean.
.651 is and always will be > .608
sorry bub

So let me make sure this is right almost everyone on this board wants oscar gone but if given the option of a blue blood coach they would decline. Interesting.

This is our 12th game where it’s three points or less under a minute to go. It’s disheartening that we play as hard as we play — we make our mistakes, as do the other teams — to not have it go our way. They’re working their tail off.

marquette "got" him because he was ineligible to play college ball due to low test scores. they accepted him as a partial qualifier.

So IU hired a hack? I'm not 100% sure but he wasn't given the IU job since he had former ties there. He got an interview and won that job because he is a top tier coach.
That article just expressed that he has expectations for his kids and program. He is taking the blame and is trying everything he can to make his team better.
I'd rather have that then some loser hoping for letdowns or lining up excuses for why his team loses.
Let's play this game, name any coach better then Crean that would come to Mhk. I say Sampson at Houston is my pick.

It's funny that you mention both Crean and Sampson. Crean once ran across the court after a game against Michigan, in which they clinched the Big 10 title, and screamed in Sampson's former assistant, Jeff Meyer's face, yelling "You wrecked our program! You wrecked our program!" That's how Tom Crean celebrates conference titles I guess.
-
You know when it isn't, though?
.651 is and always will be > .608
When you're handed a stocked program and ride on the strength of its full cupboard , never bothering to restock before the cupboard and in fact all the kitchen cabinets and the house come crashing down.
And then someone else gives you a whole new, stocked kitchen.
Give Crean credit for rebuilding from ashes. It's what you're going to need.
-

In the end, this is what we all hate to admit.
Guys, I think I'm depressed. Is there an online quiz so I can check my symptoms?
