Title: LHC Bill Snyder "Serious but treatable health issue thread"-Throat Cancer

Do any of you insiders have any info on this?

I hope he gets better.

I listened to a chunk of the recruiting presser, and it seemed like he was in typical HCBS form and seemed perfectly on point.

what fitz said is all there is to know at this point

Quote
Dating back to December, I have been aware of some health concerns for Coach LHC Bill Snyder. I have not felt comfortable releasing this information until Coach Snyder chooses to do so himself. Now, speculation surrounding Snyder's health is becoming public and I will address this topic solely for the purpose of quieting false speculation.

Recently Kansas State coach LHC Bill Snyder has been receiving treatment at a Kansas City medical facility for a serious, but very treatable health issue that GoPowercat.com is choosing to not identify at this time. Snyder is currently taking some time off to address his health, but is expected to coach next season for Kansas State. As of this writing, there are no plans for Snyder to retire or for a successor as K-State's head football coach to be named.

Re: Much speculation on KK show on Snyder
i received a private message from a missouri fan who says currie has met with jim a couple times recently, and that coach snyder has given notice he's leaving.  the guy has ties to leavitt, he claims.  all speculation.  but this thread appearing now is interesting nonetheless. i've heard nothing about hospitalization issues.

Oh, there's a glimmer of sunshine in there then, fantastic.

Didn't want to think he was like a couple of other KU fans I know who have literally quit talking to life long friends who are K-State alums because the K-State people made a little fun of KU football.   My rule of thumb when around psychopathic KU fans (most of them) is to repeatedly heap praise on KU and speak in nothing but glowing bouquets of adulation.   It just helps things go smoother and keeps things cordial and friendly.  TSC everybody!

If, God forbid, it IS cancer, I bet after about 3 months of LHCBS micromanaging his treatment by insisting on such things as butter spread instead of pads for his meals and relocating treatment rooms to the shady side of the building the cancer says, "F*&^ this guy, we're leaving!" and doctors announce complete remission.

Exactly how long does it take to learn the rules for how a D1 collegiate football program operates? I realize that most people sporting KU colors did not receive any postsecondary education, but geeze! They really do operate in an alternate universe.

I do seem to recall talk of Bill smoking when he was younger....

All jokes aside, why is it whenever someone gets cancer, we all finger through their lives for something THEY did to cause it?

We still don't know what causes cancer.

Lots of people that contract cancer don't and have never smoke(d) and lots of people that smoke (75% of heavy smokers BTW) NEVER contract cancer. Genetics probably plays a greater role than any of our life choices on when/if we will develop cancer of some form.

And no, I don't smoke and never have - nasty habit.

For the record, the leading cause of cancer IS smoking.    I never smoked, but everyone else in my family did.   No cancer yet  :crossing fingers:

In a 2006 European study, the risk of developing lung cancer was:

0.2 percent for men who never smoked (0.4% for women)
5.5 percent of male former smokers (2.6% in women)
15.9 percent of current male smokers (9.5% for women)
24.4 percent for male “heavy smokers” defined as smoking more than 5 cigarettes per day (18.5 percent for women)

It's morbid, I know, but these possibilities make me more excited for the season.  No way Bill is going let anyone give him one ounce of pity or sympathy.  He'll get more personal enjoyment out of the opportunity to not give the press what they want.  He's already starting to revert with his press releases today.  It's going be great (again, circumstances makes these thoughts horrible, I know).

for those familiar with PFT Commenter, an excerpt from his MMBM

Quote
8. Thoughts and prayers to LHC Bill Snyder whose been diagnosed with throat cancer. In a Ultmate football guy move, he is going to keep coaching and I truly beleve that his medical treatment combined with screaming at players could scare the disease right out of his body and send it packing up to move back in with momma. Its called cancer not cantcer and Mr. Snyder knows that better than anyone. Someone need’s to fact-check me on this one but I think hes the only coach in NCAA football to coach in a stadium thats allready named after him which is like having sex with your pregnant wife- its the ultiamte job securty and he’s earned it. A football guy gets more focused with every additional distraction that he has to ignore, and LHC Bill Snyder certainly fits that mold. Were rooting for you.

you're talking about different probablilities.    You point to the incidence of smokers getting cancer, not that smoking is the leading CAUSE of cancer.   Both can be true.

They do not know what causes cancer. FACT: Most people that smoke heavily never contract lung cancer.

Worst part of the whole deal is Bill feels bad enough about having cancer, and the Life Nazis are going to make him feel worse by wagging their bony fingers in the air about a few cigarettes he enjoyed in his younger days!

There were a lot of ways to make this thread bad, but statistically this one was the least probable?

In a 2006 European study, the risk of developing lung cancer was:

0.2 percent for men who never smoked (0.4% for women)
5.5 percent of male former smokers (2.6% in women)
15.9 percent of current male smokers (9.5% for women)
24.4 percent for male “heavy smokers” defined as smoking more than 5 cigarettes per day (18.5 percent for women)

you're talking about different probablilities.    You point to the incidence of smokers getting cancer, not that smoking is the leading CAUSE of cancer.   Both can be true.

He's posted about asbestos not causing cancer on this board in the past, iirc.

for those familiar with PFT Commenter, an excerpt from his MMBM

Quote
Were rooting for you.

i hope we never get to the point that instead of wanting our team to get better, we hope and pray that everyone else just gets worse.

The longer I think about it, the more accurate I realize this statement is. Most of those over on the phog have given up on actually becoming a better program. Sure, they hype things up in July and August, projecting 4 or possibly 5 wins, but none of them actually believe it. They just hope we get worse. Which while I'm on it, how pathetic is it, that even in their own best case scenario for the season, they still can't make a bowl game!?

Bill is a treasure. I'll miss him when he's gone.

Sometimes I get so incredibly pissed about not having (or us not knowing) a plan for the future, and I get mad at him. Then I'll think about him being gone, and it makes me sad.

Really hope he can go out on top or in a way he can be very content with.

It's understandable for you to be frustrated, but not excusable.  I have completely come around to the idea that the right decision is to let Bill make all decisions about K-State football until he is no longer able to do so.
