Here is a guess for next year's starters on offense and defense before the spring game. Players that had at least one start last year are in bold.
LT S. Frantz
LG A. Beecham
C R. Najvar
RG T. Mitchell
RT D. Risner
QB J. Ertz
RB J. Silmon
FB W. Dimel
TE D. Valentine
WR B. Pringle
WR D. Heath
DE T. Wood
DT W. Geary
DT T. Dishon
DE R. Walker
LB T. Tanking
LB S. Sizelove
CB D.J. Reed
CB D. Shelley
NB C. Moore
S K. Adams
S E. Walker (three-star recruit, third ranked safety in the country)
I am most unsure about guessing for the linebacker positions and the safety spot Barnett vacates. Elijah Sullivan and Justin Hughes could also start, and maybe someone like Goolsby could make a run at safety. Also, Barnes should see a decent amount of playing time, I just have Silmon starting because Silmon recorded a start this year and Silmon is a year ahead of Barnes.

I like. Also, 2 and a half years without a post, most impressive. Post more KSUVoyager.
-
Carlos strickland will start

Walker is still being actively recruited by other schools. I'll hold my breath we hold onto him.

Pringle and Strickland

Why isn't our best offensive weapon projected to be in the starting lineup?

Dimel is in there.

i assume you mean alex, he will start some games

Barnes should start every game if he's healthy. Silmon is good, but Barnes needs to be the guy.

He should start every game and get 15-20 carries per game.

correct but you and i both know silmon will start for bill reasons.
-
Maybe, but I'm not sold that Silmon will be treated like Charles Jones. I think Barnes/Silmon will battle it out in the spring and fall and the best guy will start. Both will get significant carries and I'm hopeful each can get 700+ yards next year. That still leaves 300+ for Warmack.

I think Barnes is better than Silmon, but the difference between the two has been overstated in my opinion. Barnes padded his stats primarily against BU in the second half. I'm not convinced Silmon wouldn't have done the same thing, particularly considering what he did against TCU (better d than Baylor) and A&M.
I'm very happy to have both of them.
-
Silmon needs to move to linebacker, then Barnes and McCoy can split carries. :peek:
-
In games in which he got at least 5 carries (5), Barnes' lowest YPC was 6.8 vs Baylor with a best of 10.3 vs KU.
FAU 8 carries 9.1 per
ISU 5 carries 7.4 per
OSU 8 carries 9.0 per
BU 19 carries 6.8 per
KU 10 carries 10.3 per
In games in which he got at least 5 carries (7), Silmon's best YPC was 7.7, every other game was 6.0 or below.
Stan 7 carries 3.7 per
OU 6 carries 5.8 per
UT 11 carries 5.3 per
ISU 9 carries 6.0 per
OSU 5 carries 5.8 per
TCU 22 carries 6.0 per
aTM 10 carries 7.7 per
I agree that they are both good, but Barnes averaging 2.5 more YPC was not because of a fluke Baylor game, he outproduced Silmon on a regular basis. And Silmon's production was very good.
Barnes should be the guy.

I have not seen Barnes perform poorly in any game. I think he would have played much more toward the end of the season if not for injuries, although you never know what could cause a player to not play under Snyder. If Barnes is anywhere near the level of Silmon (and I think he is), we should be feeding him at least half the carries every game.
-
Both will play a lot, but I think Barnes should start and get more carries than Silmon. Warmack really needs to step up and be the pass catching back we also need.
Pringle, Strickland, Heath, and Zuber. Just loaded. And don't sleep on Sutton either. Not a lot of players see the field as True Fr.
You can't replace Willis, but having 2 starting DTs and 2 DEs that played opposite Willis makes me feel good up front. Linebackers is a spot that should all worry us, at least right now. Lee will be sorely missed and we will 2 new starters.

Those numbers don't tell me that Barnes should be the guy. They just tell me that Barnes did a pretty damn good job against some gargabe run defenses.

It's 50 carries 414 yards. That's 8.3 a carry, which is impressive vs Ave/Bad Run D combination.
Two other things, Barnes never had a carry of negative yards all year. 2nd, he had some 20+ yd runs, but he didn't get that 8.3 average with a handful of 50, 60 yard runs.
I'm excited for Silmon too. There were some times he didn't look great, but I liked how he finished vs Tcu & the Aggies.

Not trashing Jones or Silmon but he clearly seemed to be (per my eye test) the Cats most explosive offensive weapon. Amazing that he only got 50 carries all year.

Anyone watching the games can tell Barnes is the better back

I think what makes Barnes better is his vision. He doesn't seem bigger or faster than Silmon, just better at finding holes. Both are good though, and much more similar to each other than they are to Jones.

I think Jones and Silmon are more similar. Barnes is bigger and faster with a taste for running over defenders. More YAC than Jones / Silmon.

Assuming Barnes is here next year of course.

Barnes weighs 35 more pounds than Silmon?? That can't be right, can it?
