How long will it take them to make it official?

He should be fired on the way to the locker room.

On the bright side, if Bill quits this year, that gives Currie one more solid option.

$10M buyout! Good for charlie!

He's definitely not getting a raw deal. He's earned this.

for that much money they should just make the people happy and keep him.

Man....that's hard to watch. Charlie seems like a pretty good guy and I hoped he would do well there but it's not meant to be. Best of luck to him in the future.

Looks like somebody's getting a new Ford Fusion!
David Beaty earns $25K bonus for each Big 12 victory. That was his first in 16 league games in 2 years at Kansas

"Joke" is a bit too harsh. However, there is no such thing as "bad fit for UT." There are simply coaches-that cannot-win-with-every-advantage and those that can.

Some coaches don't do well in an environment where you have to give your top 5 donors handies behind the caddyshack because they are more powerful than the AD.

Completely agree MiR. Strong wasn't walking into a *fair chance* job. He was walking into an uphill battle while having to change an entrenched culture and remake a program. If anyone here took a second to see what McCombs said in public, imagine the crap that was being done behind closed doors.
Side note: Care to wager how many times McCombs called Strong "boy?" :sdeek:
-
Have a friend who's a big horns fan and has family friends that are big boosters. Apparently a Tom Herman deal is already in the works and could have been why Texas didn't want Houston to join this next year. If Houston becomes a big 12 team he has no reason to leave Houston. Texas has wanted him since before the beginning of season. Never liked Charlie because of :opcat:
-
In Mac's last 4 years he wasn't winning at the level they wanted. However, he won at least 8 games a year each of his last 3 years.
Are we to believe that you have to have losing seasons for years in a row in order to rebuild a team that won 8 a year for the prior 3? To change the culture you have to turn them from being medium level winners to losers?
I get that he had unreasonable critics. I would have hoped that the guaranteed $10M+ would have allowed him to avoid worrying unnecessarily about economic insecurity and maybe just focus on X's and O's.
-
Saw a rumor Strong has been informed, gets to coach against TCU and Herman might to stick around Houston to even coach the bowl game. If true, that is some huge doucheness on Herman if he jumps that early.

Not saying it's right, but it's the norm.

Strong sealed his fate during his first few weeks when he ran so many players off the team. He turned it into more of a rebuilding job than it needed to be.

I think you are underplaying the cultural issues at any school like Texas. I would also include the issues that Rich Rod, and I think Hoke too, had at Michigan. Sure he has had years to fix it, all the while the biggest donors are actively trying to run him, undermine his recruiting, and threatening to hamstring the athletic department. I also object that Charlie is worried about his paycheck and not focusing on his coaching. You don't get to the position he has been in with those kinds of distractions. He carries himself with a lot of integrity, IMO, and I'd be willing to bet he is more distracted by the cultural situation and people undermining him rather than deposits.

Texas was actually very public about wanting Houston in the Big 12. Also, Herman would still have a reason to leave because it's Texas.

Pete, Red McCombs is a racist dickbag. That being said you can make a pretty easy argument to run Charlie. I also think you can make a compelling argument to keep him, I think they are undoubtedly improving, albeit slow. I would have liked if he were allowed to coach this talent he accumulated but he knew the job he took.
RATM, those players were identified as soft TCs, FPs, ETC even before Mack left; others were straight up criminals. He did a great job of building the talent back up in the program, just couldn't get the wins they needed to get.
-
What if Herman tells UT no?
Since people have gone on record saying he's telling people it's his dream job it would be incredibly embarrassing.
-
Maybe Strong ends up at LSU?
-
:th_twocents: I bet he takes a minute off, enjoys his 5+mill for free and gets at it again at a *smaller* P5 like Louisville was for a bit. No need to jump right back in when you can stick it to the horns a bit.
-
1-17 when trailing at the half. Maybe Strong could build something at UT if given more time, but the in-game coaching so far actually seems pretty bad.

Where do you go to get stats like that? It would be interesting to see what record most coaches typically have when trailing at the half.
-
Texas should forget about Herman and offer Chip Kelly 8 mil per year.
-
I liked/defended Strong but you can't lose to Kansas.

Saw it on the TV broadcast and then googled to double check.
I would expect any coach to have a losing record when trailing at the half, but to have almost no chance of overcoming a first half deficit has to be uncommon.

I changed my mind. The AD wants him to stay, Fenves has been publicly supportive, the players love him. I hope Fenves tells Red to GFY.

I would think it easier at UT to tell anyone booster to Gtfo than anywhere else.

Go look at how many buildings, endowed positions, and a myriad of other things are named after McCombs.

The Herman demand seems manufactured,. He's the Mini Classic Nintendo of college coaches right now. Once the newness wears off they'll regret paying him 6 mill a year.

In my opinion, they won't regret anything that has anything to do with money. They want to win. That's it. He either wins league championships and/or gets into the playoff or he doesn't. That is all that they care about.

Yes. Time is the more valuable currency for the horns. Another 3 years of mediocrity and embarrassment would be much more devastating to them than any amount of money lost. They desperately need to be relevant again, no matter the cost.

If winning were really all they care about, Bobby Petrino would be their head coach.

The mayor of Houston too
But perhaps one of the Cougar's biggest fans said it best today: Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner wished Coach Herman the best, then flashed a wide smile.
"There will be coaches that will come, and take the University even higher," said the Cougar alum. "I look forward to when UH plays Texas, and we beat coach Tom Herman like a rag doll."
The Mayor then flashed a the Cougars sign, and chuckled.
